In the short story “The Most Dangerous Game” the main character, Rainsford, falls off of a yacht that he is aboard of while on his way to Rio De Janeiro. When falling off the yacht he encounters a few obstacles on the way to shore, Rainsford gets stuck in the waves created by the boat and is slowly drowning, as he calls for help no one hears him and it gets harder for him to cry for help as the sea water keeps rushing into his mouth. At a slow pace rainsford swims himself to land after hearing three gunshots. He looks at the bullet shells and notices that they are large and a big animal must have been killed, and if a big animal is killed then there's someone who killed it, and if there's someone then there's must be food.

When rainsford saw general rainsford slowly looking up the church he was hiding in he got nervous and his muscles stiffened but he didn't look up much further but he did blow cigarette smoke upwards on purpose. The general came back and said that he was going to treat his wounds but it wouldn't take him long and that he'd be back soon, thats was rainsford chance to flee to another hiding place. While running it got harder, more insects bit him, plants kept getting in his way and he got more tired.
With no luck whatsoever rainsford steps his foot into the quicksand where zaroff suggested he not go to. Instead of running rainsford used his brain. Utilizing the tools around him rainsford dug a pit covering it with weeds and grass that went up to his shoulders. He quickly hid behind a tree knowing that general zaroff was soon to be after him. It was soon night time and with smell of smoke. Zaroff walks toward the traps and steps on a branch that unveils the pit but he still falls in and says, "You've done well,

In this short story rainsford faces the struggles of the ocean, plants, animals, day, and night. He faces all of this in order to survive because out in nature it's about survival ofthe fittest, prey or predator, to kill or to be killed. Rainford makes up his minds and says he's not dying today. Rainford has his whole life planned out ahead of him and he's not going to let a few bugs bites and killer hounds get in the way of his future. Nature can get in the way of life just like people. For example typhoons, hurricanes, and tornadoes are all different parts of nature that destroy things and get in our way of everyday life. Hurricanes have ruined cities and flooded homes up to the point where these people have had to evacuate. Volcanic eruptions, hot lava spuese everywhere and the only thing that can be done is to leave and just let nature take its course.
Nature always unexpectedly throws an obstacle at anyone. This short story “ The Most Dangerous Game” is an good example from the ocean to the quicksand. The ocean and the quicksand both relate to each other, they both pull people, animals, and things in, both are hard to get out of, its like a trap. The whole is a trap it's says earlier tet the crew is frightened because many people die there mysteriously and boats go missing. In the beginning of the story it foreshadows what is soon
Being able to overcome something in life is a great feeling. When you want to give up, but your inner body says no. The ability to overcome that feeling, although your mind and physical ability tells you no, is special. In Richard Connel's short story "The Most Dangerous Game," big game as Sanger Rainsford is tested in the following ways: strong versus the weak, the value of life, and becoming what he fears. Next, we will go into great detail about how Rainsford handles his weakness.
It had been a week since Rainsford managed to kill the nefarious General Zaroff. The challenging part was almost over or so it seemed. There was not a clear way for Rainsford to escape. As days passed, Rainsford tried to escape. He tried making a boat from driftwood that he found, he tried swimming, he even tried sending a signal by using a flashlight. Rainsford had become so desperate that he even tried some ridiculous plans like trying to pole vault across the ocean. As a result, Rainsford ended up having huge gashes in his left leg ,which got infected, and he had to amputate it. As days turned into weeks, and weeks into months, Rainsford had lost hope and became bitter.
Even though clearly distraught Rainsford was able to make key decisions to save his life. “Nerve, nerve, nerve” he panted, as he dashed along …. Then he leaped far into the sea.”(18). This quote tells the reader even while battling nerves and running away from a pack of dogs Rainsford was able to make a imperative choice to save his life. Rainsford survives the three days to beat Zaroff and win the game but still feels uneasy will not rest until General Zaroff is dead. “I am still a beast at bay,” he said, in a low, hoarse voice.” Get ready, General Zaroff.”(18). This quote discloses to the reader that Rainsford felt like quarry and wanted Zaroff dead and was not satisfied with merely winning the game. This quote also shows what kind of man Rainsford is and how he is willing to die for what he feels is right. Rainsford battled many trials throughout the story but somehow managed to make the best out of each one.
Rainsford keeps his hope in the beginning when he thought that hunting other people was not humanly and considered murder. When Rainsford sets off to hide from being hunted, his initial objective is to get as far away as possible from General Zaroff, “Rainsford had fought his way through the bush for two hours. ‘I must keep my nerve. I must keep my nerve,’ he said through tight teeth” (Connell 16). Rainsford repeats that he must keep his nerve,
Sanger Rainsford manages to beat General Zaroff at his own twisted game. It seems like all hope is lost, but not for Rainsford. He proves he can do whatever it takes to survive against all odds and he can push through even the toughest of situations. The key to Rainsford’s survival comes from his many survival skills; his true bravery shines through as General Zaroff comes closer to killing him, he is extremely clever; he can act fast when needed and he remains level headed through it all.
Rainsford can feel his arms getting weaker every stroke he takes, every time he moves his arm it feels like 100 more bounds are added to it. The only thing that keeps him going is the sight of Zaroff’s window. He plans to swim to zaroff’s window and hide there until he returns and rainsford will fight zaroff to end this horrible nightmare.he’s not to far from the land that is above the window. As he swims further he suddenly stumps his toe on what feels like land! He finally can touch the ground with his feet.rainsford reaches land and with a great big breath he collapses onto the dry grainy sand.because he is overcome with exhaustion he falls into a deep and soundless slumber.
Rainsford is an intelligent man. Early in the story, “Rainsford remembered the shots. They had come from the right, and he doggedly swam in that direction” (34). Rainsford had just fallen in the water,
Beyond his reactive and resourceful ways of thinking, Rainsford is visibly aggressive and energetic when he has to fight instead of fleeing. He refuses to allow himself to give up and be killed by Zaroff and decides to keep on running forward. As the hunter is escaping, he says, “Nerve, nerve, nerve!” and then “forced himself on toward that gap”, where he “leaped far out into the sea.” (14). Rainsford believed that he still had enough energy left to swim in the harsh waters. As a result, he experienced a rush of adrenaline due to how
Being lost in an island, hungry, and tired is not an everyday thing. So Rainsford being in that situation, had no other choice than except Zaroff’s generosity. Zaroff gave Rainsford clothes, food and, a place to sleep. Zaroff tells Rainsford to join him for dinner, and Rainsford went to the dinner room as told. Sitting down eating there meal. The two men’s starts a conversation and starts to talk about their lives. Zaroff learns a lot of things about Rainsford and so does Rainsford. Rainsford learns that Zaroff is a smart man and a hunter just like him, but Zaroff him hunting people is part of things that he hunts for. Zaroff on another hand learns that Rainsford is a pretty smart, educated man and lastly a hunter.4
““ I’ll give him a trail to follow,” muttered Rainsford...” and a trail he made. A trail was one of the many techniques he used that helped him escape from Zaroff’s grasp. “He executed a series of intricate loops; he doubled on his trail again and again, recalling all the lore of the fox hunt and all the dodges of the fox.” by mimicking a fox Rainsford managed to outsmart Zaroff for a couple of hours.Rainsford then decided to take shelter in a tree.”It was General Zaroff. He made his way along with his eyes fixed in utmost concentration on the eyes fixed in utmost concentration on the ground before him. He paused, almost beneath the
Rainsfords is panicked and running for his life, he's also scared of what General Zaroff will do to him when he catches him. Rainsfords force himself towards the gap between these two trees. He got closer to gap to see open water, and then he went to for it, he jumped. ‘“I am still a beast at bay, Rainsfords said, in a low hoarse voice, Rainsfords said this after he jumped off the cliff and swam back to the land. As he swam back he seen a big house, he walked closer to it and seen General Zaroff.
This is demonstrated in the way that he sets up the traps for General Zarrof. When Rainsford sets the traps for General Zaroff he is really sure that his techniques are going to work very well. Rainsford sets three traps for General Zaroff. The first trap is a Maylay man-catcher, He sets up a dead tree so that it will come down and hit Zaroff. As Zaroff flees from the first trap Rainsford quickly digs a pit a few feet from the quicksand and puts sharpened sticks at the bottom.
I will not.” That quote that I show you, shows you that he is not willing to give up and that he must stay calm if he were to make it out alive. Rainsford is working through internal conflict here. This supports my thesis because the author shows the reader how even when being hunted by Zaroff, he somehow managed to stay calm through it all.
Rainsford had hid in a huge thick tree. Zaroff might have figured it out but we don’t know. In this new paragraph I will be talking about when Rainsford made his first trap for General Zaroff.
