Ralph And Jack's Leadership In Lord Of The Flies

A leader must possess leadership skills, whether good or evil. In Lord of the Flies, Ralph possesses three good leadership skills. Three leadership skills a leader needs to have is responsibility, determination, and initiative.

Comparing and contrasting Jack and Ralph gives the reader an insight and better understanding of how the book develops. They have many similarities and differences between them. These main characters help explain things in the book like the theme, characteristics, actions, and rivalries. Some major keys of the compare and contrast are qualities in leadership, lessons they teach, and their relationships.

In the United States’ past, the elected Presidents have been blamed for many catastrophes. This includes hurricanes, the Gulf Oil Spill, the decline of the economy from sending jobs overseas and the greed of Wall Street, home foreclosures, the war in Iraq and Afghanistan, etc. In William Golding’s Lord of the Flies, on the island, Ralph is in charge of all of the boys. Even though there has been so much chaos since Ralph was voted leader, he is not solely responsible for the chaos that has occurred. The boys themselves are responsible for all the things they have committed.

The Lord of the Flies by William Golding is about a group of British boys that were on a plane and they got shot down onto a deserted island. The boys are alone on the island without any adult supervision because the pilot died during the crash. The boys split up into two groups focusing on different aspects, specifically shelter and hunting. During their survival, they face many obstacles such as the beast and the pigs. In the end, they get rescued by a ship passing by.

Imagine your stuck on a stranded island and having no idea how you get there. Then, you meet these group of boys and have no clue were they come from. So, one of the boys is the chief and the another boy was over the hunters but was also mad he couldn’t be chief. After that everything started off good until the hatred one was angry because he didn't like the way the chief set things, which lead them to fight and have war. Good or Evil?

When one is forced into a situation where a leader is necessary, a person that displays the fundamental attributes will successfully guide the society. Throughout the novel Lord of the Flies, the boys on the island represent various aspects of leadership, characterized by differing strengths. However, the protagonist’s, Ralph, leadership undoubtedly triumph over the other boys because his attributes allow him to be a powerful leader on the island. A leader is someone who has determination. They are willing to do anything to benefit other people in order to help lead them to greatness. When I think of a leader, the people that come to my mind are those who have helped change the world. This includes George Washington, or Martin Luther King. Jr. I definitely do not think about Ralph from Lord of the Flies when I think of a leader. Some people may argue that Ralph kept the group together and knew what was best for the young boys. However, I am aware that Ralph had good ideas. For instance, the signal fire which, in the end, helped the boys get rescued was a good idea. Despite this, Ralph did not do an altogether good job at holding the group together. By the end of the novel, one boy went missing, two of his friends were murdered, and Jack's tribe had almost accomplished their goal of hunting Ralph down and placing his head on a stick.

Death, murder and betrayal these are probably not the words any leader wants to hear. In the book the lord of the flies which is a fiction by William golding. In this book a plane crashes on an island and a group of schoolboys get stuck on the island. There's a struggle for power on the island, Ralph and jack both want to lead the kids' on the island. But the most superior leader on the island is jack he gets the kids, food, gets them to listen to him, and gets them saved.

In the novel Lord of the Flies displays more of a paradise setting by quoting, “Either the wandering breezes or perhaps the decline of the sun allowed a little coolness to lie under the trees. The boys felt it and stirred restlessly.” They state that the bland, wind was relieving and relaxing, and they sat there and acknowledge the serenity of the island. 12 young boys were on a plane because their parents had sent them away due to the war, as they were on their way; the plane fails and crashes onto an island killing the pilot.

The differences will cause them to hate each other and the anger that results is a recurring part of the plot throughout the novel. In a group, there are always people who prove to have better leadership skills then others. The strongest of these people can often influence the weaker people into following them. However, the strongest person is not necessarily the best leader as it is proven in William Golding's book, The Lord of the Flies. Although Ralph is the weaker person, he is still able to show a better understanding of people than Jack who is stronger. Ralph demonstrates his excellent leadership skills throughout the book by keeping the group in line, treating everyone with respect, and staying focused on getting rescued.

I believe that Ralph is the best possible leader for the group of boys. I think that Ralph would definitely be a better option compared to Jack as well as all the other boys.

Lord of the Flies has many meanings to it that are represented through the characters and their feelings. When comparing the characters in the Lord of The Flies, you can see the obvious change in most of them from the beginning of the book to the end. The two main characters are Ralph, the protagonist and Jack, the antagonist. Ralph and Jack both have different qualities and beliefs that define each of them completely and at times make them both alike in many ways. They both represent what we are and what they were, Civilized and Savage.

Throughout the novel Lord of the Flies, Ralph tries his best to create a society based on survival. As time progresses, it is clear that Jack's feelings are towards living life and having fun. Jack's society eventually leads to corruption, killing innocent people, while Ralph's prevails as the boys are rescued. Ralph uses a repetition of hope towards being saved while Jack's technique with no thought clearly flounders creating savages out of the once civilized boys.
