Ralph Lord Of The Flies Character Analysis

All our personalities compare to a character from Lord of the Flies, and I found myself to be an ENFP or an idealist; someone most comparable to Simon. An ENFP or an idealist personality displays characteristics of being extroverted, intuitive, feeling and perceiving which. Furthermore, passionately concerned with positive improvement, being kind, warm, sympathetic, distracted and motivated were all trait described in the personality test for the ENFP. Due to our selflessness, how introverted and extroverted we are, and how we can think both logically and emotionally, makes Simon and I most similar.

Ralph said, "Who wants me? Ralph counted. 'I'm chief then." (pg. 17) This is a positive change in Ralph’s character because he began to take charge of the group and make new rules and decisions. Ralph made the decisions for the group and began to gain control over Jack by telling him what and what not to do. Ralph and the other boys went into a venture on the island, “three of us will go on an expedition and find out. I'll go, and Jack, and Simon." (pg. 17) This venture really didn’t change Ralph but it was the first night on the island and they discovered where everything was and what the island looked like.

“Listen, everybody. I’ve got to have time to think things out. I can’t decide what to do straight off. If this isn’t an island we might be rescued straight away. So we’ve got to decide if this is an island. Everybody must stay round here and wait and not go away. Three of us-if we take more we’d get all mixed, and lose each other-three of us will go on an expedition and find out. I’ll go, and Jack, and Simon.” (Golding, 24) The boys find that they are indeed on an island using Ralph’s intuition. “There’s no village smoke, and no boats,” said Ralph wisely. “We’ll make sure later; but I think it’s uninhabited.” (Golding, 30) Ralph concludes that they are alone on the island. Ralph's character is progressively broken down throughout the novel, only to be rebuilt stronger, and more knowledgeable in the end. If it wasn't for Ralph being hunted by Jack's tribe, the island would never be engulfed in flames; the boys would never be rescued. Thus, he also serves as the key character to the resolution of the novel. The events of the story prove that in a typical society, evil may gain control on occasion, but ultimately—everything will be balanced

Through Ralph it shows that he is the most powerful boy on the island, despite his size. Ralph doesn't want to be in control of all the people, he just wants to find a way of the island. He is determined to create rules and follow them, and prioritizes the groups needs above his own selfish desires. For example, he builds the huts even though it isn't fun, compared to the boys who go off to play whenever instead of doing important tasks that aren't fun. Leaders are everywhere in today’s society because everyone needs a leader. In Lord of the Flies, two leaders are prevalent. One leader, Ralph, is considered a good, moral leader. The other leader, Jack, has evil characteristics which make him an evil leader. Each boy ends up leading his own tribe on the inhabited island.

Ralph is a young boy with fair hair and a tall and skinny frame. He likes to swim and explore things, he is even a pretty good acrobat. He is mainly a very good boy, but nobody is perfect so he does have a little bit of a bad side. He is not a very fast thinker, but he knows what he wants and that is to be rescued. He is the leader of the boys on the Island and was a good one too.

No human, or animal, or other living being in this world is perfect. Flaws are existent. However, the severity of the flaws can differ, from mild to rather dangerous. Most importantly, flaws develop in a human being due to specific reasons. In Lord of The Flies, the author William Golding’s portrayal of selfishness and pride are significant because they are emotions that prevail when a civilization is absent, showing that humans have a tendency to go towards savagery that is contained by the presence of a civilization.

Once the children realized that they were stranded with no adults and no rules, Ralph immediately stepped up to the plate as a leader. “A few people quickly comprehend the reality of the new situation, accept that they could die but don’t panic, and take action to increase their chances of surviving”, (Siebert, The Survivor Personality). There are four main characters throughout the entire story: These characters are Jack, Ralph, Simon, and Piggy. In the beginning, the boys choose Ralph as leader by majority vote. Although the group votes Ralph, he is not the best-fit leader. Out of the four main characters, piggy, is the best fit for leader on the island.

Ralph is a main character in this story. Ralph, a 12 year old boy, ends up taking the role of chief. Ralph takes the lead role by finding a conch shell and establishing that whoever has the conch has the right to speak.
