On Friday, September 23, 2016, Justin Pratt was sentenced to 10 years in a federal prison. Plus on top of the time remaining on, his murder sentence, which is expiring in May 2017 after pleading guilty to armed robbery. Pratt and his wife entered a man’s home and stole his medication at gunpoint. Justin Pratt felt horrible and embarrassed by his action and said “I’m sorry for what I’ve done, and want to change things”.

There have been many people who have served and occupied a CA state senate seat over the years who have had a huge impact on California government and one of those people is Michael Rubio. Michael Rubio was born on August 24, 1977, in Lost Hills, CA and during his early childhood his family relocated here to Bakersfield, CA. As a child, Michael was often seen as a bright, hardworking, and caring boy which he continued to carry with him throughout his teens and into adult hood. After high school Michael when on to attend Bakersfield College for a couple of years and then transferred out to the University of New Haven, where he had the opportunity to study Criminology and through all his hard work graduated with honors. On the morning of March 6, 1998, Beck arrived at work and hung up his coat as usual. Beck walked to the office of Michael Logan, 33, where Beck shot and stabbed Logan. Beck then proceeded to walk to a room close by where a meeting was being held and raised his gun at Linda Mlynarczyk, 38. Witnesses reportedly heard Beck say, “Bye, bye,” before shooting Linda three times. Frederick Rubelmann, 40, was also killed in this room. Jurgis Rudkus and his family came to the United States in search for a better life. They lived in Chicago. There were huge meat packing plants and other jobs in the slaughterhouse around town. Around this time it was very hard to find jobs. If you were one minute late you would lose pay and if you were 10 minutes late you lost your job. Like today it was very hard for these people to find other jobs. When Jurgis and his family finally settled in the US they realized it wasn't all glitter and rainbows. Instead of being a land of wealthy and good outcome,it was a land of poverty. Then even the jobs were bad. The workers at the meat packing plants are paid little overworked,treated unfair, all in a dangerous working conditions. Even the workers at the stockyard endured poverty and grime. They worked in rat infested boarding houses with devastating garbage dumps and large sewage pits on both ends of the yards. Being poor immigrant Jurgis and his family knew they would have to work. From his dying father to his pregnant wife everyone knew work was a must.
