Humanity has always searched for god. The more people come together with that goal in common, the higher the collective energy. Mountains can sometimes be moved, and sometimes temples can appear seemingly out of nowhere, as if sprung from the very ground itself.

For nearly 138 years, Brenau University has continued to uphold its slogan Extraordinary Lives. When I first stepped foot on Brenau’s campus in 2012, I wouldn’t have fathomed that four years later, this institution would shape me into the successful woman I am today. Prior to attending Brenau, I had always struggled with understanding who I was and where I belonged. Once I became a student at Brenau, I began to join organizations such as Student Activities Board and Student Government Association, and consequently, I have reached a social and academic success peak I never believed I would be able to achieve. If you are a first year college student or are transferring to a different institution, I advise you to take Brenau University into consideration.
We can all agree that the Harlem Renaissance was one of the greatest and joyous milestones in African-American History. Harlem Renaissance was a time of racial pride between African-Americans and the precedents they made were proof such as the blues, their art etc., but what bothers men is that does high art or folk art best express racial pride? I believe both types of arts reflect black pride because it shows blacks as intellectually competent humans, showcases the Negros’ way to be themselves, write their own dialect and not care about other races’ opinion, it lastly demonstrates the pride of black people about their race and culture.
The madrigal is a distinctive type of secular song that originated in Italy. It was an aristocratic form of poetry and music that flourished at small Italian courts. In the piece, Cruda Amarilli, Monteverdi uses many musical devices that are typical of a madrigal. The lyrics in this song are repeated, the music accompanies the text in interesting ways, and there is a wide range of vocal notes. After listening to the piece just once you can immediately feel the unrequited love Monteverdi is displaying through his words and music. The music and instrumentation in this piece aid the voices to establish form and mood through word painting. He uses word painting and cadences to develop a theme of unrequited love.

Although volunteers for Medecins Sans Frontiers are commonly stationed in various countries with a dire healthcare worker shortage, regions with refugee camps and internally displaced persons are also a focus for this organization. Refugees and internally displaced persons often come from war torn regions and live in close confines with poor sanitation and limited resources. These living situations become a breeding ground for diseases and other health issues like malnutrition, yet the individuals lack access to any sort of healthcare. The organization also responds quickly when regions suddenly experience an increased need for healthcare, for example in times of an epidemic or a natural disaster. Medecins Sans Frontiers’ involvement across its varying regions and their attempt to address a broad spectrum of healthcare truly show how altruistic the organization is to individuals regardless of race, gender, or religion.
The reason I chose this song for the title, because at this scene of the movie, Pai is at a very emotionally unstable conflict with Koro, especially because he had just previously made Pai cry in front of an audience because he did not show up to Pai’s speech. Although this movie-long conflict may take place, Pai all throughout the movie is trying to please her grandpa, again shown at this particular scene when she jumps in to retrieve this whale tooth for Koro. This song now ties into this part of the movie because though Pai at this spot is having a particularly tough time in life, she does not let it “kill her”, but rather to channel that emotion into a higher level of determination, making Pai stronger. You might say that only because Koro is so rough on Pai, so she can the best leader and person she can, trying harder and harder each time Koro knocks Pai down. And, even though Koro is trying to stop Pai from becoming leader, he is accidentally creating a great leader in Pai so that he may finally rest after the 2 generations of leadership.
Mevlana Jalal al- Din Rumi is one of the most influential Islamic mystics of all times. It is no surprise that even seven hundred years after his death; he remains to be the best selling poet in North America. His poetry reflects the teachings of Islam and his opinions on various matters such as faith, prayer, love, free will etc. are assembled in a book called “The signs of the Unseen”. Occasionally, commentators dissociate Rumi poetry’s from Islam but the fact is that Rumi’s entire writings are inspired from the Quran and sayings of Prophet (PBUH) and represent the essence of Islam.
