Rancheria falls is another popular hike in Yosemite. This hike is perfect when looking to find a hike that is not too hard or not too easy. This is a moderate hike that will last from six to eight hours. The hike begins at O’Shaughnessy Dam and ends at Rancheria Falls being about. Little Cottonwood Canyon is a site bursting with geological history, rock formations earthquake potential on the fault, prehistoric glacial formations, landslides, and many hazards associated with it. The mountains have been engraved by glacial formations dated back to the Ice Age (~14,000 years ago). Rock falls and landslides have left hefty boulders as indication of erosion and moisture in the rocks. The hazards on this mountain range are mass wasting, radon, earthquakes, and flooding of Little Cottonwood Creek.

Starved Rock Park is a beautiful, marvel that lies along the Illinois River just 90 miles West of Chicago. The park was named after a battle that took place in 1760 that involved the Ottawa Indian tribe. When the battle broke out among opposing tribes the Ottawa Indians were forced to take refuge on a giant rock. Several days after the battle, the tribe began to run out of resources and eventually starved to death, giving the rock and the park its name. The rich history of the area began in 8000 BC when the Archaic tribe first settled there. From then on tribes such as the Woodland, Hopewellian, and Mississippi have also inhabited the area. Yosemite Falls is a massive waterfall system, the 5th largest in the world, and the tallest waterfall in North America. It is comprised of 3 smaller falls, which are called the Upper Fall, the Middle Cascades, and the Lower Fall. Together, they are 2,425 feet tall which is nearly equivalent to two Empire State Buildings stacked on top of one another. It is estimated that about 2,400 gallons per second flow over the falls during the Spring, which would fill a 300 cubic foot swimming pool in approximately one second.
