9. Of the families that volunteered to participate, a random sample was drawn. Is this an ideal procedure for obtaining participants? Explain. (See lines 134-137). The Random sampling drawn, in suburban, middle to high class residential environment. Random sampling has to be equal in the participant’s culture and environment and educational status. The method was public school and ethnicity/racial mixed however the ethnic was 70% non-Hispanic White 7% Black and 19% Hispanic in the ending of the eighth grade. The 26 families randomly selected was not even of racial approximates. one or two parents interviewed. The successfulness of the students’ transition was evaluated in terms of their final grades as well as the number of credits earned …show more content…
Of the quotations that are presented to illustrate the two case studies, which one(s), if any are the most interesting? The most surprising? The most revealing? Explain. The most interesting was Adams mom would come to the school when he was in the eighth grade and eat lunch with him. Adam had to tell her to back off. She was very concerned about her sons wellbeing and monitoring her son continued when he transitions to high school however, her methods of mothering did change and he began to procrastinate with home assignments example; making the mask in art class. The most surprising is when Adams mother could recognize Adams choice of friends and the influence that could attach to her son. Adam called his mother “marathon hounding “to get him do what she wanted Adam to do. Adams mother signed him up for a summer swim team were he was introduced to older boys and formed a bond with team. However, their interest was much different than the kid he wanted to befriend. The swim team participants were more focus on getting good grades for college and the change of environment was good for Adam. Moreover, the boys on the swim team were older and could stay out late Adam had to follow curfew. Adams mom laid down the rules and stuck by them and it was
Ever since Wallace was a young boy he was the best behaved in his class. “Whether it was the imposing figure of Chef Jewel, the female bishop who ran the school, or the lessons on respect he had learned from his parents, Perry was the best-behaved kid in kindergarten.” This shows how from even at a young age Perry’s parents had inforced respect and manner in him. Another example the book has of Perry well-behaved at a young age is, “The kids were going berserk, running around screaming, bouncing off walls and windows. All but one kid, that is. As his classmates went bonkers, there at his tiny desk sat Perry Wallace, not saying a word, waiting patiently for his sister.”
Sampling strategy is a focus on a smaller group to determine the conclusions of the larger population (Cooper & Schindler, 2014, p. 338). In this instance, the McMahon Group employed both focus groups and mail surveys as strategies to gather information and the dual approach produced relevant and valuable data for researchers.
Plaintiff can establish slander per se by showing that the defamatory statements made injured their profession and reputation while drawing question to a particular skill necessary for proper conduct. However, allegations of plaintiff’s character do not meet slander per se. Joseph E. Hancock v. Easwaran P. Variyam, 400 S.W.3d 59 (14th Dist. 2016). To be actionable as slander per se, criminal allegations must be in accordance with the elements of criminal statues of the state, simply stating that plaintiff stole is not sufficient. Skillern v. Brookshire Et Al., 58 S.W. 2d 544 (Tex. Civ. App. 1933). For a statement to be slander per se, it must not use an innuendo to interpret the meaning of the statement and insults are not considered as outrageous behavior. David E. Moore v. Billy Waldrop, 166 S.W.3d 380 (5th Cir. 2006). Words which charge an employee with dishonesty in dealing with his employer are held as slander per se and injury to reputation is presumed. W.R. Tatum v. Carolyn Liner, 749 S.W.2d 251 (N.D. Tex. 2007). However, proof of malice is not required to entitle the plaintiff to actual damages in a slander per se case but the presumption of malice may be rebutted. W.R. Tatum. Privilege is an exception to slander per se but it can be destroyed when it is abused by the individual claiming it. W.R. Tatum
The educational change I will analyze is the Ten School Program this program was implemented in The Los Angeles Unified School District. According to LAUSD.net (2008) the one of main reason this program was to provide an instructional program and an organizational design and provide a language intensive that will redirect the pattern of poor academic achievement of African American and other students in predominately Hispanic, Black, Asian and other Non-Anglo (PHBAO) Schools also knowns as low income areas. According to the Los Angeles Unified School district "The focus for the ten school program is to demonstrate that all children can achieve their highest potential when the conditions for learning are at high standards starting with students attendance. Improve the academic achievement of TSP students in reading, math and language art, Lausd.net,(2008)". Below I will list the programs list of guidelines:
Adam was an extraordinary kid. He feared nothing. When he was two, he jumped 12 feet from the deck at his house (pg 13). He played football, had amazing family and friends, and had his fair share of trouble. He always was kind to everyone and stood up for the underdog (pg 25). All of his classmates and teachers adored him. The worst mistake of his life started the first time he tried drugs (pg 44). This started a whirlwind of pain and anxiety on all of Adam’s family. Adam would disappear for long periods of time, steal from his parents, and had many bad influences (pg 48). He hit the lowest of the low while at a party when he stabbed himself in the neck (pg 55). This was very hard for everyone that knew Adam. He got sent to a rehab facility and faced many challenges while he was there (pg 57). He finally got released out into the real world after finishing the 12 step AA program (pg 58). Adam had many ups and downs after this.
This unit was designed for a regularly leveled ninth grade classroom with a wide variety of learning needs. The class is comprised of 18 boys and 12 girls with 30 students total. The students generally enter freshman year around the age of fourteen or fifteen. The school is located in a rural area in Northern Illinois. About 74 percent of the students are white, although the school has become much more racially diverse in recent years. The Hispanic population is the largest minority population present at about 12 percent, followed by 6 percent Asian, 4.5 two or more races and 2 percent black. Despite increasing minority populations only one percent of the student body are English Language Learners. Approximately 13 percent of the student
The observer may participate in the activities of the group being studied (participant observation) or he may just be a bystander (nonparticipant observation). When an observation is done in a laboratory, as in the case of experimental studies, the type of observation is called controlled observation.

Under the Pretest-Posttest with a control group design, the sampling technique to execute would be timeslots, with randomizations. Since last semester, the department use two sections in which integrated the revamped 6200 course and two section with the original design. Through the process of using timeslots, this assessment will allow participants to choose four different time slots that best suits their schedule for the semester. No participants will know which class is which, it will just be two sections of the course, four different time slots. Two classes will be the revamped course, the other two will be the traditional course. By using this type of design, this can eliminate selection bias. Once participants have begun their course, a pretest will be administered that test participants knowledge of public-sector administration, ethical protocol, execution all mutually related to being successful in public governance. Then at the end of the semester a post-test assessment would be given to test the participant’s knowledge. By utilizing this design, researchers are allowed to compare and contrast the final posttest results between the two groups, analyzing the overall effectiveness of this assessment. In addition, can determine from the results the researchers can see what changes occurs in the pretest and posttest, whether the case study group, or both the case study and traditional group , or neither improved over the semester or remain in the same
When data randomization is applied without using random mask generation method, the results are predictable and having high performance overhead. On the other hand, when the results are interpreted using linear congruential method then it reduces the probability of attack because of unpredictable values and less performance overhead.
The community surrounding the school is very diverse, consequently, the school’s roll is made up of children from different ethnicities, with different social backgrounds.
Data will also be collected from surveys given to parents and teachers regarding students. Surveys will be administered at the beginning of the school year before the program starts and again in the end of the year when the program has ended. Human subjects will be protected because parents and teachers will be asked to complete all surveys anonymously placing no names on surveys.
The sample must be representative of the population from which it is drawn and must have a good size to warrant statistical analysis. For the purpose of this study; (a) one (1) educator; (b) one (1) learner; (c) one parent; and (d) one (1) member of SGB will be randomly selected from 5 schools. This will provide the researcher with a sample of 20 participants.
At Carthage High School there are two very distinct categories that students are a part of: “Hispanic” and “everyone else”. Over the past decade the school district has seen a dramatic increase in the number of Hispanic students that are being enrolled in our district. There have been numerous attempts to help meet the needs of our Hispanic students, most of them are English Language Learners (ELL), and while there has been progress made, there is much more that our school could be doing for these students. Data from state test results and annual yearly reporting (AYP) show our minority students are making progress but still fall significantly behind the non-ELL peers. Teachers are the key to seeing our Hispanic students achieve higher rates of success because they have the largest effect on the daily motivation and learning of these students in the classroom. Using interviews, observations, and artifacts produced by students my action research plan will show successful methods being used in the classroom and which methods are not helping to achieve the desired results for our students. My action research plan will also help bring to light the social issues that are being dealt with in our school and building as a direct result of the influx of diversity in our community and school. Our school is trying to aid in this area by introducing programs aimed at helping bridge the gap between the diverse cultures in our community. These programs will be reviewed to see if
One of the greatest concerns with public schools is that the numbers are far too large, parents fear their child will get lost or overlooked. However, there are several benefits to placing children in larger communities with many different types of people. A study done in 1997 by the National Center for Education Statistics showed that “Racial and ethnic diversity can enrich the school experiences of students” (Findings from the Condition of Education 1997, p. 9).
