I chose to compare the NFL crisis regarding the Ray Rice domestic abuse. The major difference with the NFL crisis was the fact it was created by a single action versus a poor corporate decision. My crisis stemmed from poor planning which resulted in a failed campaign. However, if one measures failure based solely upon financial gain or loss we can clearly see that no negative outcome transpired as a result of this failure. Likewise no immediate discernible negativity can be observed within the NFL organization. I believe with certain actions we do not observe an immediate reaction. Meaning, the NFL is likely to see repercussions in the future and thus reacted in a different manner in order to minimize future retaliation from multiple
Although we lost Ellen Pence, a woman who changed how domestic violence is addressed, in 2012, there are many lives that are being saved to this day because of her work. Ellen Pence found her calling in 1977 when she began working for the Minneapolis Housing Authority that helped individuals relocate with housing complications (StarTribune, 2010). It was then that she immersed herself through domestic violence cases and set the standard for addressing these cases. Ellen Pence is especially known for establishing the Duluth Program, a program that address batterers in the court systems, and Praxis Training, which are training on addressing domestic violence for law enforcement, advocates, community agencies, and institutions. Pence’s 35 years of service change the way domestic violence cases were handled, educated key players in domestic violence cases, and showed the world what it was like to be a victim of domestic abuse. Without her efforts, many individuals in power addressing these cases would be lost and those to who are victims would not be understood as they are today.
Symbolism is the idea that something can represent another thing, usually in a book. Authors often use specific objects, colors, or people as symbols to represent certain themes and ideas that the author wants to emphasize in the book. Within Jamie Ford’s book, Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, he uses Oscar Holden’s record as a symbol in the story, among many other objects, people and places. In Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, Oscar Holden’s record represents Henry’s love for jazz throughout his life, and the record also represents Henry and Keiko ’s promise to wait for each other.
The NFl is a place where fans can go and forget about their worries but, the NFL has now been corrupted with political opinion and many fans are unhappy about it. The recent stunt is proving nothing to change the causes that is” supposedly” trying to stop. In the blog “Now I have had enough” by Brandon
Domestic Violence, also known as DV, is a life-threatening crime that focuses on manipulative and abusive behaviors that are used to establish and maintain power and control over a loved one. Anyone can become a victim regardless of age, economic status, nationality, race, religion, or education. Unfortunately as severe as this crime is, it is one of the most frequently underreported crimes.
Domestic violence is defined as a violent or aggressive behavior within the home, typically involving the violent abuse of a spouse or partner. As a forensic psychologis in the case of Ray Rice, I wouldn’t agree with the team and say that he couldnt still play professional football unless he commited a major crime like murder and was convicted for it. In the Ray Rice partner violence case, the court system ruled that he was convicted for aggravated assault and battery. Battery is defined as physical violence experienced in intimate relationships, such as dating or marriage. Also, defined as strike repeatedly with hard blows to the body.
Domestic Violence has been a large problem over the years. It seems like all celebrities avoid going to jail for this felony. For example, Ray Rice and Chris Brown both got out of jail for going to a program or counseling. That is not the case for a regular person. The consequences for domestic violence are jail time for 30 days to several decades depending on the situation, restraining orders, community service, fines, and anger management programs.
The law in this society is, do not put your hands on a woman. Because men are stronger than a woman. And there's no reason to put your hands on a woman. When Ray Rice finished beating his fiancée up, the elevator opens and you can see he drag his fiancée out of the elevator, left her there and didn't bother carrying her out of the elevator. So of course, when he went to court the judge will think he didn't really care about her at all.

1. The media's interaction with victims of domestic violence is different from their interaction with victims of other types of crimes. The media tends to focus on the abuser more so than the victim, and for good reason. One reason is that they do not want to re-victimize the victim. Linda Osmundson offered her advice to journalists and she said to focus on the abuser, do not allow alcohol to become an excuse, and abuse is a world view and not a disease (Tompkins, 2014). Osmundson also said that journalists should remember that victims are reading, listening and watching coverage (Tompkins, 2014). I agree with Osmundson, especially the point she made about how victims are reading, listening, and watching. It was not too long ago that the
On 03/18/2017 at approximately 2132 hours, I was dispatched to 8340 Rd. 46 in the County of Montezuma, and State of Colorado for reports of a domestic disturbance.
This literary writing will attempt to examine the impact of domestic violence (DV) in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender community (LGBT). Domestic violence is prominent in a homosexual relationship, if not more so than in a heterosexual relationship (White & Goldberg, 2006). Domestic violence is also associated with intimate partner violence (IPV) (Dunne, 2014). Statistically, domestic violence rates are higher than heterosexual domestic violence with IPV (Fox, 2010). Knowing that domestic violence brings about a plethora of disparities, it is solidified
There are many different types of domestic violence. Physical abuse is the most obvious form, but this is not to say that outsiders always recognize it. Generally, physical violence causes bodily harm, using a variety of methods. Slapping, pushing, throwing, hitting, punching, and strangling are only a few methods. An object or weapon may or may not be used. There is not always physical evidence of physical abuse such as bruising, bleeding, scratches, bumps, etc., therefore, absence of physical marks does not necessarily mean physical abuse had not occurred. Physical abuse sometimes escalates to murder (Morris and Biehl 7, Haley 14-17).
The team of individuals who will lead this work include Baonam Giang, NMAFC’s Victim Services Coordinator; AnhDao Bui, Social Services Director; Kay Bounkeua, Interim Director, and Sarah Lau, Fiscal Manager. Mr. Giang was the sole creator of NMAFC’s men group and helps to coordinate all victims’ services at the agency, in addition to running a tae kwon do class for Asian youth. Mr. Giang has two years of formal training and experience on addressing gender violence. Before Mr. Giang, there has never been a Pan-Asian men’s group in Bernalillo County working to address gender violence within local Asian communities. As domestic violence, sexual assault, and other forms of violence are still extremely taboo topics for Asian communities, the formation alone of this group with regular attendees
Ellie and I lay in our beds, neither one of us knew what to say. In the other room, our host parents were arguing. We didn’t know what about, but we knew it was serious. Then we heard a “THWACK” followed by silence. Ellie and I sat up in our beds and looked at each other, I could tell she was as scared as I was. “Was that? Did he just?” she asked me. Then the arguing started back up again. We calmed back down until we heard it again. “THWACK” We knew then, the noise we heard, was him beating her. We got up, our hearts racing; neither of us knew what to do. We got our nerves together to go get help. When we opened the door to our room we saw the children sitting on the couch crying out for their mother. I could see the fear in their face and I knew something needed to change.
