Squeaky is a proud sister, she’s sassy, she is protective and takes care of her brother Raymond in the book Raymond’s Run by Toni Cade Bambara. Squeaky is proud of Raymond because after she finishes the race, he comes running to her, showing he keeps up with his sister and she realizes he is a very fine runner. She takes care of him because she is the one looking after him taking him out and helping him. She does love him and takes care of him because when Mary Louise Williams asks a question to Raymond, Squeaky chimes in to tell her if she has something to tell Raymond, they will have to tell it to Squeaky first. She is also sassy when Mary Louise asks a question.
Why is Squeaky a proud sister? When Squeaky was running the 50-meter dash, Raymond was running also. As she was thinking about how he was running with her, she felt proud and excited for him. "'And by the time comes over I’m jumping up and down so glad to see him, my brother Raymond, a great runner in the family tradition."' This shows she is proud of him and she realizes he is a great runner. She looks back on how Raymond "'always keeps up with me on my trots,"' and how he "'knows how to breathe in counts of seven."' and figures out he is "'a very fine runner"' and she

She also gets protective because she is the one to take care of Raymond. When Gretchen asks “‘What grade you in now, Raymond?’" Squeaky’s protective instincts kick in because she doesn’t like Gretchen and she retorts “‘You got anything to say to my brother, you say it to me, Mary Louise Williams of Raggedy Town, Baltimore.’” In this sentence, you can hear how sassy she was being. She didn’t want Raymond to be made fun of, so she stopped the conversation. She knows if something happened to Raymond, she would get in trouble because she is the one who takes care of him and protects him so she put an end to
In the story “Raymond’s Run” by Toni Cade Bambara, the main character is Hazel Elizabeth Deborah Parker, but she is known as or often called Squeaky. Squeaky is a short, skinny, African-American girl who has a squeaky voice, which is how she got her name Squeaky. She is a really fast runner and she thinks that she is the fastest thing on two feet. To say more about her, she had won the track meet in first place many times, ever since she was a little kindergartener who won a twenty yard dash run.
Squeaky may be small and scrawny, but she can win any track meet. Compared to Gretchen, they both are similar in many ways. In “Raymond’s Run”, by Toni Cade Bambara, Gretchen and Squeaky fight their way to the finish line. Their differences may split them apart, but they both are similar in many ways.
Squeaky is Raymond’s sister. Raymond probably watched her run & learned how to do it. After all, She does watch after him. She is very protective of him. Not to mention will knock anyone down if they pick on him
Raymond doesn’t say a whole lot in the story but, that doesn’t mean he can’t run. Squeaky’s brother can be just like her and act just like her. When Squeaky run
In “Raymond's Run” by Toni Cade Bambara the protagonist, Squeaky, protects her brother while preparing for her race in Harlem. Squeaky's revelation this story is she learned that the world does not revolve around her and gains respect for her rival, Gretchen, and a mentally ill brother Raymond.
Raymond’s Run theme essay In the world, many people struggle with making friends and letting people in your life. Squeaky is the protagonist/main character. Squeaky learns that being vulnerable to others can have a positive impact on your life. I think that Squeaky was aggressive because she was being over-protective over Raymond.
In Raymond's run Squeaky has a bad attitude which makes it hard to make friends. How squeaky approaches things is with a tough no it all attitude like she will knock anybody in
Squeaky loves to run. She would run all day if she wanted to. She helped take care of Raymond cause he was one of those special kids And so Squeaky does not have to wash the dishes .She don't have to clean the house like dusting like other kids would have to do. He is older than squeaky but she calls him her little brother. When she sees somebody picking on Raymond about his head she tells them if you are going to mess with my brother you mess with me and I would just rather push you down and bet you up And if stuff started to get rough she would just run cause she can run really fast. She had to race with this girl named Gretchen. They got done with they race the judges have to add up the scores and then tell them who won and the winner
Reasons I predict that Raymond will become a runner like squeaky is because he has his own little race and style of running. She notices this at her last race and gets excited at the ending, not because she won, but because of Raymond running. Second of, he can run as fast as she can. When she goes running that’s how he keeps up with her. He runs with her.
Squeaky is determined because she practices running a lot, protects Raymond from getting hurt and being teased, and has a tough reputation. She practices running with her dad, with Raymond, and by herself any chance she gets to keep her reputation as the fastest person around. This shows determination, because she wants to be the best at running and she will never give up until she has the title of fastest runner. She protects Raymond from being teased by not giving anyone a chance to even try, which means that she scares them or hurts them before they try to tease Raymond. For example, when Rosie teases Raymond. Squeaky protects her brother by calling Rosie a name and telling her not to tease him. This shows determination, because she wants to keep Raymond safe so
The First Reason why Squeaky is Confident is because she is caring and she cares for her brother when he can’t care for himself. This shows that she is very caring and will help him even when he can’t really do basic things. This illustrates that she is confident that she is able to care for him and also do whatever other things that she must do.This also fits my claim of Squeaky is Confident because she is caring, fearless, and above all Because she is strong. Another example of squeaky being caring is when Raymond climbs and jumps over the fence and she realizes that she a Gretchen can train Raymond as a runner this is very caring of her and she is not going to just treat Gretchen like dirt. This shows that she is very caring towards other people
Squeaky should quit running to train Raymond. It can help Raymond to know what she knows. It may improve their relationship.
Squeaky feels fortunate to take care of Raymond because she is able to make sure Raymond gets the respect and care he deserves. For example, in the short story “Raymond’s Run”, the text talks about how Squeaky would much rather fight the person making fun of Raymond than letting them talk. This exemplifies the fact that Squeaky believes Raymond is a good person despite his health issues, and no one should be bullying him. Thus, Squeaky feels the need to stand up for her “younger brother.” To add on, Squeaky believed that even if she did not win the race, Raymond can grow up to be the next best runner. The text revealed Squeaky’s enthusiasm with Raymond’s ability to climb the fence and run swiftly. This leads on to the fact that Squeaky
Another emotion that Squeaky hides is caring. As the race is progressing, Squeaky and Gretchen are head to head to the finish line. As Squeaky turns to her left she sees nobody. But as she looks to the right she sees to people. Gretchen sprinting her life out and there was Raymond. Raymond was taking off on his first run. Squeaky was so proud that she almost stopped to look. In page 36, line 315 to 320, Squeaky says the quote,” And on the other side of the fence Raymond with his arms down to his side and his palms tucked behind him, running in his very own style, and it’s the first time I ever saw that and I almost stop to watch my brother Raymond on his first run.”This quote represents that Squeaky really cares about her brother Raymond.
She is wondering if she should be evil and bad, or good and defy her mother’s expectations. She is beginning to see that all her life, she felt “something missing” and that something was not right. She is beginning to see that good might be a possibility, and she might want to be good, not evil. Similarly, as the story ”Raymond's Run” progresses, Squeaky realizes that it is ok to run, and she starts training all times of the day, including when she is with her mother. She is beginning to choose running. This theme is further reflected in this
