Ten years ago if someone had told me that today I would be starting over in school I would have told them "you're crazy." Fast forward to real time and here we are.

Previous to being enrolled at RCC (this is my first semester as a transfer) I completed three (3) years at North Carolina State University. Go Pack! I was in the Poole College of Management en route to getting a Bachelors in Supply Chain Management. As I got further into the curriculum I began to realize that being a Business Major was not for me. I have always had a fascination with new technology and I finally settled on a different sea to set sail. I brought all my transferable credits here to RCC where I will complete my Associates of the Arts. I will then take this and transfer to a four (4) year institution to get a Bachelors in Computer Science; if I had to choose an institution right now I would either choose UNCG or head back to NCSU. I am a salesman for a local beer distributor and my boss has ingrained it our minds that we need to treat each day almost similar to a self-assessment. If I'm performing a skill or task correctly, chances are it wasn't/isn't a fluke and I will repeat the success. If I am struggling with a task or skill, I've found that dissecting it and creating a process to help me complete it is the best way for me to improve on something. When an employer asks you to self-assess, they don't want you to expand on what you're doing correctly, they want you to focus on what you need improvement on. You are your best critic and you create your own standard. Self-assessments are accurate and successful when you put forth the effort to really dig deep for the truth on your strengths and weaknesses. These assessments are what you make of them; if you know you need improvement on A, B, and C and you don't take ownership of these weaknesses, then you are hindering your own professional development and future
