“Reach for the Stars; unless you’re black”
With the United States Army being one of the oldest organization in American, they have undoubtable faced its share of diversity issue, they are an organization, with the need to operate under the strictest hierarchical structure. This structure is imperative to their mission to serve and protect the free people of this country and to uphold the Constitution that affords it. Alas, the structure begs for internal oppression of minorities, due to the need and desire by its members to advance in rank. The General Officer Corps. is the highest of military ranks next to the President. And with rank brings freedoms, privileges, and above all power. The power to make a wide spectrum of orders; from how members tie their boots or whether to wage nuclear war.
The members of the Army are a direct reflection of the citizens they protect. Made up of all different races and backgrounds. When a person volunteers to join they are really volunteering to join an entirely different way of life within America. Although they are afforded the same fundamental protections of the Constitution which they protect, they are also volunteering to relinquish some of those rights. Members are governed my different laws, courts and at times different police; they are subject to inspections, punishments, and a way of life that is not like that of their counterpart civilians. Unfortunately, one thing they share with America is it’s social-racial issues that has
There are several clicks throughout the Army across the entire globe. One example that is abundant throughout the Army is that we have people in combat arms MOS that feel the more rough, nitty gritty attitude or approach is mandatory IOT ensure strict compliance on the battle field yet tends to lead to more DUI’s, EO complaints, SHARP violations and a slew of other problems. Another example is people from Ft. Bragg have extreme prejudices against non-Airborne qualified Soldiers, creating their own set of standards and rules that deviate from Army regulation. These standards are being enforced by senior commanders and senior enlisted advisors at all levels. What about personnel that have special qualifications that are prejudice towards those that don’t for example Sapper, Ranger and Pathfinder to name a few. Army regulation 600-20 states that participation in extremist organizations is inconsistent with the responsibilities of military Service, though I am not insinuating that these clicks are extremist. Yet they do single people out for certain beliefs, qualities or abilities which causes a rift throughout the Army. My plan to fix this would be to identify individuals who are not upholding what a reasonable person would consider professional then, counsel, retrain, educate through military and or civilian courses and evaluate them in a
The Armed Services has always been a microcosm of the US people. Nowhere else will you find a more diverse group living and working together in close proximity. It has been seen from history that whatever program and policies that the Army institutes within its ranks, the civilian population eventually follows suit. Racial

The most hardworking people are usually the least recognized. They are generally the least paid as well. There must be some sort of incentive for them to continually work so hard. The United States Army has been the underdogs of the military branch. The United States Army is probably the hardest working branch of the military, but also the least sought after. To the general public they are not considered to be at the top of the spectrum amongst the other branches of military. The government has helped in creating a bias within the branches of military by making the standards to get into the military so low compared to some of the other branches. The Army should be considered the “People’s Army.”
Imagine being in an authoritative position in a war. Sounds cool right? Now imagine if your subordinates didn’t follow the orders you put out to them. You just imagined chaos right? In my opinion there is no limit to the chaos that could happen if just one soldier didn’t follow the orders given to him/her. It doesn’t matter what the rank of the soldier is. Following orders in the armed
For centuries African American have been struggled against racial in America. During World War II the U.S. government asked for volunteers to join the army of defense, over 2.5 million of black men registered for the draft World, around 1 million served as draftees or volunteers in the armed forces within all branches. But didn’t received the same opportunity to serve in the same manner as white soldiers. They were to segregated combat support groups. In 1942, President Franklin Roosevelt and civil rights organizations pressured U.S Navy to recruited blacks for service.
Discrimination is, unfortunately, is not new to the Army. Gender and religious discrimination are carried over from civilian life. Racism is no exception as to the varying types of discrimination some bring into the Army. The Army provides training regarding what expectations there are, but the Army will never be able to truly legislate morality.
Soldiers come in all shapes and sizes and all deserve to be treated fairly. There is no place for any form of harassment or discrimination in an Army that claims to ‘Be the Best’. Discrimination damages teams; it excludes members and does not give them a chance to contribute.
In my opinion, the New York Times argument is stronger than the National Review’s. In the situation there is a leader which is the commander, and subordinates which are the platoons. To hold a higher position comes with great responsibility among the minority. That is why they are “minority”, for they rely on the decision coming from the officials. Thus, they bear lesser liability of the aftermath that the officials have directed them to carry out.
The United States Army is a gigantic institute with an international presence. One of its fundamental sources of power is the diversity of its personnel, which includes 1.6 million workforce across the active, reserve, civilian, and contractor parts. While the Army was at the vanguard of ethnic incorporation in the 1950s and at present is one of the most assorted institutes in the U.S., further advancement must be made on the diversity front. The term "diversity" can be classified along countless aspects; this paper concentrates on racial diversity since the exceptional and traditionally important role that race has in matters of diversity in the Army. Internal communications concerning delegate leadership throughout the force, the Army sketches power from its cultural and racial diversity.
The Army’s equal opportunity programs mission is as said here “The Equal Opportunity (EO) program formulates, directs, and sustains a comprehensive effort to maximize human potential to ensure fair treatment for military personnel, family members, and civilians without regard to race, color, gender, religion, or national origin, and provide an environment free of unlawful discrimination and offensive behavior.” The mission of the equal opportunity is pretty clear to myself. The program protects everyone in the army no matter what race, sex, religious preference, etc. from discrimination from anyone. The equal opporunity program is considered a commanders program. They should be able to point out discrimination against a soldier and do
According to FORSCOM G8, "Army leaders honor everyone’s individual worth by treating all people with dignity and respect. The leader who feels and gives the respect which is due to others cannot fail to inspire in them regard for himself. While he who feels, and hence manifests, disrespect toward others, especially his subordinates, cannot fail to inspire hatred against himself. Respect for the individual forms the basis for the rule of law, the very essence of what makes America. In the Army, respect means recognizing and appreciating the inherent dignity and worth of all people. This value reminds you that your people are your greatest resource."
