One of the tips that has really helped me the when writing and improving my writing is, write your thoughts before organizing them. My mind flows when I am writing a paper or thinking about the topic and I sometimes forget to write everything down, so before I write a paper I sit down and really think about my topic, then I just write words and phrases that come to mind so that when I start my paper I have a general idea about what I want to write.
“Tattooing and piercing have become one part of our everyday landscape. They are ubiquitous, having entered the circle of glamour and the main stream of fashion, and they have become increasingly common feature of our urban youth”
Ashford University Writing Center states that a paragraph has “three structural parts: a point, information, and an explanation. Point is described as the topic sentence where the writer is making a claim. Information is considered the supporting evidence such as details, quotes, percentages, or other details to support the claim. Explanation is described as an analysis or interpretation of the claim and the given information. If you struggle remembering paragraph structure, just think about the acronym P.I.E. https://awc.ashford.edu/essay-dev-pie-paragraph.htmlThurgood
When I first arrived to the United States I did not know how to read, write or comprehend the English language. It was frustrating and sad to not be able to communicate with my classmates. I made it my goal to learn to read, write, and comprehend the language which would help me progress not only in my education but socially as well. I am currently working towards improving my reading, and writing skills.
When I was reading Writing is Easy by Steve Martin, I was thinking if writing was actually that easy. Then I finished the article and realized that writing will never be easy. Mr. Martin examples on how to make writing easier make no sense. His tip to getting over writers block gets the writer nowhere. He says “got to an already published novel and find a sentence that you absolutely adore. Copy it down into your manuscript” (Martin). What he is saying is plagiarism. If I was to use this method to overcome writer block I would be thrown out of college. I still believe that writer block is real because even the greatest authors struggle with writers block.
When I first signed up for University 101 back over the summer I thought that this class was a waste of time, and was just an easy credit. But I was wrong. University 101 ended up being my most demanding class and I was upset because I felt like none of the journals, activities, and discussions were useful or even worth my time. But I was wrong again. My UNV 101 class was different from the rest, it was different because I was a part of Opportunity Network. Opportunity Network has three instructors and I was very grateful to have Ms. Ebony to be my UNV 101 professor. Ms. Ebony and I became extremely close during this semester. Ms. Ebony encourage me to do nursing again ,even when I wanted to give up and start all over because I wasn’t doing
Acquiring a rhetorical writing style We all long to write like someone else, maybe it is like authors such as Mark Twain , J.R.R Tolkien, Ernest Hemingway or Shakespeare- although I think the last one is much more like a dream than an
INTRODUCTION When this semester first started I did not enjoy writing, the process, the grading, and just writing itself. I did not consider myself a good writer, but I knew that I was decent. Most of my papers were decent and I received average and above average grades on them. Even though I received good grades I still did not find myself a good writer. When entering this class, WRTG 120, I was afraid that it would be my hardest class and that I would have a hard time. In other words I was scared, and hearing the writing outcomes for this course did not help. I have heard of most of the outcomes but being able to write using them in writing I knew was going to be hard. In this paper I am going to talk about how I used the five out comes
Writing is such an important tool. It has the capacity to empower both the reader and writer. There is even a famous proverb that says, “The pen is mightier than the sword.” That’s why it makes sense for the majority of my academic career to be geared towards the improvement of my writing. There is no denying that there is an infinite number of ways that I can improve my writing. After writing multiple essays for this English 100 Y class, my professor pointed out certain aspects of my writing that I could work on. Two of those suggestions stuck out to me because it seemed as though I was making these mistakes multiple times throughout various forms of writing. One of the mistakes I make is the use of ‘favorite’ words, or words that I use too many times in the same paper; another is that I use choppy sentences while writing my essays.
1. In the paper on “An Essay On Writing” written by an Anonymous author he gives a reason for rejecting good writing. The author states that “the misapprehension that is necessary to write well in order to communicate. This is utter nonsense”. What he is saying is that there is no linking between writing and communicating. They are two opposite things. Just because you're good at communicating doesn’t mean you’re always great at writing, but you might be the total opposite. The author had two good points to back up his arguments one was he did a test with three different people. One of the three was controlled. What he did is he “gave each subject a pencil and paper and commanded him to write. After “three minutes and forty-seven seconds,”
My past reading and writing experiences I had been home schooled my whole life until my freshman year in high school. Therefore, I started to learn how to read and write at home. Before I started to learn how to read and write, I always wondered why everyone needed to know the letters of the alphabet and why they had to be able to draw them.
The previously mentioned recommended learning strategies for the very strong read/write learning preference of this student compare near-perfectly with the strategies currently in use. This student however, frequently incorporates visual approaches to writing by using different colored highlighters to categorize and connect different thoughts. Sticky notes, often having various bright colors, adorn books, periodicals, Bibles, and even the course syllabus for this class. Often when communicating in writing with others, words are circled followed by arrows that point to a reply the writer has written. Visual learning strategies are very important to this author’s success
Reading, Writing, and Reflection My reading and writing experience began when I was about 3 years old. Writing has always been my way of expressing myself. Up until about high school, reading was something I really enjoyed and even prioritized. If I had to read a book for English class, I wouldn’t be as excited to read it compared to a book I chose myself. I believe that strong reading and writing skills are essential if one wants a successful career. I hope to improve my skills while enjoying the material this year.
