Kisen Goforth Erin Glick English 11 April 2024 Ready Player 1 Book Report Discover how Wade Watts in the book Ready Player One by Ernest Cline completely changes who they are for a contest, and why it is such a big deal. Wade Watts takes on a new identity, Bryce Lynch. Wade does this to escape IOI, and to focus on the competition for the egg. After Wade finds the copper key (the first part of the puzzle to find the egg), he has a target on his head. A company called IOI - who are trying to cheat to find the egg - invited Wade to an online interview. They offered him a high ranking position at their company for a walk through on how to get the copper key. After losing everything Artemis, his home, his old life he decides to hide under this new name and start a new life. A life inside his apartment where every waking moment of his life is devoted to finding the silver key, and uncovering Holidays Easter egg. This was one of the biggest parts of the story in my opinion because Wade was severely depressed and it was a big character growth for him. One point Wade was over eating, and eating unhealthy “I also had a habit of overeating when I was depressed or frustrated, which was most of the time. As a result, I’d gradually started to put on some extra sounds” (Cline 156) Wade showed restraint, and a want for change when he turned the OASIS fitness lock down software which wouldn't let him log into his OASIS account until he had burned a certain amount of calories according to what he had eaten that day. It helped him get back in shape. “My computer monitored my vital signs and kept track of exactly how many calories I burned during the course of each day. If I didn't meet the daily exercise requirements, the system prevented me from logging into my OASIS account.” (Cline 156) After Wade implemented this he started to get into better shape and started to feel better feeling less sick, and more ready for each day.
