Greg sat up in bed and peered out of His window looking at the dull, dead and dry city that used to be New York. He loved the mornings, every one in is family was happy, his Mum would smile as she made the beds, his dad would sing as he lifted his ten year old sister, Lizzy, high in the air and then there was Penny, she was two and Greg adored her and it broke his heart when her health started to deteriorate one year ago, he couldn't do anything but she is strong for her age and although the circumstances even she can giggle when she wakes up to this cruel world. But in a few hours like every other day the happiness would fade away when the real world …show more content…
It was a Saturday so he dressed Penny, got Lizzy’s coat and told his parents they were going out for walk he wanted his sisters to have a little fun before it all began. He took them up the street to see the blimps and flying cars, but he could see it starting. Penny was going pale so they headed home. Greg wiped Penny's mouth clean from breakfast, which consisted of stale bread and muddy cereal. But she couldn't stay still, she was starting to whine and her lips were cracking as he spoke. 11:30am came around but Penny couldn't sleep, her symptoms has worsened and today seemed to be worse than others. She wiggled around and whined until their Mum came in and put her down for a nap. Lunch time was another battle with Penny she had lost her appetite and instead stared through her sandwich as if she was waiting for it to turn into something that would make her feel better. Greg and Lizzie sat on the rug patting Penny's feverish head with a cool cloth. Greg looked into her nearly lifeless eyes as she coughed and panted. Her lips were now dry and bleeding and her face was white. Penny was nearly gone; it wouldn't be long long now. “You'll be okay baby, you’ll be okay.” Greg repeated to her but she didn't respond. Lizzie stood up and went for a walk on the staircase that led up to their apartment. Penny coughed dryly and closed her eyes with a big sigh. “No Penny stay with me, you'll make it I'm sure.” Greg pleaded but she wasn't listening, she was oblivious to the
“I told you sweetie, she is in a better place right now. She won’t be coming home.” She looks up at me with tears in her eyes. “That’s not fair! Why would he leave us?” “It wasn’t her fault baby girl,” I say tearing up. “I WANT TO SEE HER NOW!” Amelia starts screaming. “You can’t see her!” I shout back.

As she rubbed her eyes in exhaustion she remembered the adventures of the day before. When she got home she passed out from the excitement and strain on her heart. She reached down to check her leg and sighed with relief to find a replacement was already attached. She looked over at her nightstand and noticed her spare glass waiting for her to put them on. As she got out of bed all she could think about was how rude she was to Sam. She walked into the kitchen to see her mother preparing breakfast. She looked around and did not see Sam. She didn’t know why she expected to see her but she was upset that he was not here. Her mom turned a saw her disappointment and said “He seem in quite a rush to leave he left his job to help you.” She was startled by her answer and rushed out the door ignoring the cries from her mother. She hurried Sam’s farm almost throwing up because of the strain on her heart. When she reached the farm she found an old man working the fields. She rushed over and asked, “Where is Sam?” The old man replied, “I fired him because...” She didn’t let him finish She rushed to the road the taste of blood in her mouth from running. She saw a man walking on the road looking forlorn. She called out, “Sam!” The man stopped and turned it was Sam he answered her, “Joy?” She ran into his arms and started to cry. Sam confused hugged her back. She thought to herself about how a horrible incident led to her
“Stop,” said Jen as she shook her head back and forth. “You’re my best friend, and I don’t want to mess that up.”
It’s official. I am Screwed. Anna periodically handed Norman her cell phone whenever too many girls was gaining his attention. It wasn’t the ones who tried to speak with him in passing or with as little attention to themselves and what they were doing. What had caused Anna to use her speed dial button on turbo were the ones who openly, proudly, and loudly wanted to get Normans attention and or an agreement to out out on a date, as friends of course. No one wanted to be responsible for him becoming happily single. Norman no longer batted an eye when Anna passed him her cell phone.
Mac left before the Sheriff or anyone else got to the center as he wanted to see how passable the trail was and if he could take the any vehicles up the hill. It was the smallest vehicle they had and it might make it. In several places, the trail wasn’t wide enough to take the quad so he gave up the quad and walked up. The distance to the site Jackie described wasn’t far.
He had already packed everything he wanted to take with him, but left most of his possessions unpacked as he feared it would be a reminder of his previous life. As he was packing his items into his car, his neighbor Mr. Lauterbach came outside and noticed Arthur packing his things. “Hello Mr. Raeburn!” Greeted Mr. Lauterbach. “Why are you packing up your things?” Arthur was caught by surprise at first, he hadn’t thought about being seen by his neighbor. “I’m packing for a road trip,” lied Arthur, “I’ll be staying at a log cabin up north for a few days.” “I see. Well, I don’t want to be late for the bus now, so I’ll talk to you some more when you get back from your vacation!” Said Mr. Lauterbach. He started walking down the sidewalk towards the bus stop, and Arthur began packing quicker so he wouldn’t be caught by anymore people. After packing his things, Arthur got into his car, and started it. Pulling out of his driveway, he took a deep breath, knowing that this would be the last time he would see the town he grew up in. He began driving down the street, seeing everybody he pass smile and wave at him. However, he didn’t smile or wave back, as he had already abandoned his old life and began his new one. After he got out of town, he realized something. His depressing old life is nothing but the past; therefore, so are his sad memories. He had no reason to be sad anymore and felt something he hasn’t felt in ages, and that feeling is happiness. Nobody has heard from Mr. Raeburn
fevered ear was resting firmly and irrevocably upon her round pink bosom. “Nettie!” he cried.
The hospice nurse kept Phoebe comfortable and free of pain. On the days she felt energetic, she only wanted to visit with Amelia, our daughter. They played together for hours until one or both of them collapsed from exhaustion. Then they would sleep, Amelia curled up next to her mother. When Phoebe slept, Amelia would lie beside her holding her hand watching the rise and fall of her chest.
Tolerance threshold beyond reached, Penny opted to strop. Her arms were crossed and her pout was in full swing.
The neighborhood was full of busy people that would casually say “hello” and “goodbye”. Peter started delivering newspapers at the age of ten, however, you would know he coming down the street with his yellow traveling cart also, you could hear the clunking noises from the wheels when it hit a bump. He lived a few blocks away from Mrs. Park although you couldn't miss it, the huge stone house on the block where she grew up in and later raised her family. Mrs. Park’s parents died in a car accident while she was in her last year of college when she inherited the house. Her husband died after five years of marriage, she couldn’t give her heart to anyone else nevertheless she had a strong well to nurturing her only daughter through this crisis. Mrs. Park and Jane were realtors and they both enjoy helping at the soup kitchen at their church until her daughter married. Bill eager to start a furniture store however it wasn't close by nevertheless, it was about a 1-day trip away,
“You’re all squirmy. Everything good?” She asks quietly. He nods, and smiles at her over his shoulder before turning back to the front. Mrs. Jackson was glaring at them. Pete stares down at his lap, no longer able to focus on anything but his thoughts. He hated how weak he was. No one had made him feel this vulnerable, not even the summer he spent thinking he was in love with his childhood friend, Mikey. Pete’s eyes dart to the clock above the whiteboard. ‘Only four more minutes left.’ He breathes a mental sigh of relief.
I walked through the door with you, the air felt cold but something about it felt like home. Surrounded by warm smiles and friendly greetings, I let the magical laughter twirl around me, so caught up in it that I managed to leave my scarf there, at your sister's house. Even now, you still have it in your drawer. 'Sweet Disposition' was blasting from the radio; your favourite song. You looked right at me and smiled, my wide-eyed gaze taking in each freckle on your face and each curve of your lips. Revving up the engine, we started to drive along the old country roads, singing loudly as we got lost on the steep mountains of Dublin. The autumn leaves were falling from the trees like pieces into place, alive with screaming colours of red, gold, orange as they crunched beneath the wheel of the car. I still thought you were the most vibrant one there. Now, I know it's long gone, and that magic's not here anymore, and I might be okay but I'm not fine at all. After all these days, I can still picture us there, on that quaint, little town's street. Your eyes were so fixated on me that you nearly
Millie was spooning soup into bowls when she heard a thump, then a yelp. She almost rolled her eyes when she realized what had happened. He had fallen off the couch. Sure enough, when she walked into the living room he was propped on one elbow, holding his head with the other, his legs tangled in the blankets. She tried to hold in a laugh, but failed as a small giggle slipped out. He turned his head towards her with confused eyes. "Wha?" His husky, tired attempt at speech caused her to snort, then she got down to business, crouching beside him and asking the questions the doctors on the television always asked their concussed patients. "What is your name?" He blinked at her slowly before responding confidently but still drowsily, "Jonathon Stenton." Millie was pretty
My day begins again with a drone of the same ringtone of the alarm. Getting up to open the window forgetting about the same old raven bird that stares at me with its whole black eyes sending you into a black spiral. The sense of nostalgia hits, rain leaves its own scent like the scent of an ex-lover’s. After all eternity doesn’t wait for the past to catch up, you just keep on going with your life as I have. Making my way to the kitchen I avoid all the papers on the floor scattered like a tornado threw up and shredded its life. My hands twitches to grab the phone eager to check for the ghost messages and calls. Putting down my arm as soons as it raises “don’t do it”. I turn in circles to find someone but in its leave was nothing. “ I know” I whispered to no one. The hallway was filled with darkness except for one room whose light was slowly dimming. Darting past the shadowed hands reaching for me I went into the room. Searching for that dark grey raincoat that was hung up on a hanger in the half empty closet.
