I agree , we can’t believe someone 100% at all time . Why ? in fact we are a liar sometimes, have you ever been telling lie to your friends ? Or even to your family ? I guess you have . Even we can’t believe ourselves sometimes and believing someone 100% doesn’t mean they will believe us 100% too . So why we telling lies ? maybe this essay can help you to answer it.
The first reason why people telling lie is the truth that can tainted his/her reputation . therefore , if the truth can be considered as a threat to their reputation , they will protect their reputation even using dirty trick , hmm I mean using lie to protect their reputation , however ,not everyone will lie to protect the reputation using lie , several people still telling
But, besides that I dont see why there is a reason to lie. People uses the term, a white lie,
Will someone’s trust be destroyed?” (Ericsson, 496). All of these questions have one thing in common: perception. Perception is everything. What we perceive may not be what everyone else perceives.
Many people lie when their status is being threatened or for selfish reasons, as seen in the majority of the lies
The majority of people think lying is inherently wrong, and it is only justified in cases of significant benefit. Fear, manipulation and pride are the three main reasons people choose to lie. Some of the harsher lies are
Once people know that a person habitually lies, they do not take that person as seriously. Being honest demonstrates self-respect and respect for others. Honesty is appealing and engaging to others. Honesty also sets a good example for people who look up to that person. People will become closer and have faith in an authentic person. An honest person invites authentic and real friendships. Imagine if a friend overhears a lie told by another peer, it is possible that it could damage the relationship. It can be difficult to regain their trust once they are aware of the regular lying. People frequently tell lies to bypass sharing truths that feel uncomfortable or awkward. Lying should be avoided because it is important to share true judgment and care for others. Lying typically ruins relationships whether they are personal or work-related. It is clear that lying creates skepticism and disbelief. Most people will stop asking liars for advice on personal issues because they know they will not get truthful information. Friendships are often broken because of lies that get too big to keep lying about. Lying hides who people really are. People should try to keep a clean slate by staying honest, especially when there are consequences. Lying gets rid of credibility, yet people seem to lie more
Humans tend to listen to whatever their heart desires, by twisting words and hearing what they want to here. Alexis de Tocqueville was a French diplomat, political scientist, and a historian who was best known for his works Democracy in America and, The Old Regime and the Revolution. A line quote spoken from Alexis is “It is easier for the world to accept a simple lie than an complex truth.” What Alexis is elucidating to the human nature rather go the easier/not risky path. In society people value the truth but in actuality, the truth may not be worth it. For ex.) think about it with education, if you get a bad grade then you either lie to your guardian/parent(s) or tell the truth and hope it will be fine. Should you get punished or to be “safe”.
Robert Stevenson once said, “The cruelest lies are often told in silence.” Many believe that lying is when you verbally twist the truth. However, sometimes silence is a lie within itself. Dismissal is a terrible lie that could as easily be told in silence as it could be told verbally. Dismissal is the worst type of lie because ignoring facts, feelings, and opinions can cause a person’s relationship with themselves, others, and society to crumble.
Many time we lie because we don’t want to hurt or disappoint people when in return you are hurting yourself . I understand your action and have done the same myself. The statement you made we need to take a deeper look at the decisions that we make on daily basis is so true. Many time are white lie affect people. For , example if I call in sick and have no substitute to cover my class this cause a great effect on my students and coworker. When it would have been better to plan for a day off.
Admittedly, we as humans are considered to be savages, on the other hand there are those who perceive there is a greater good to humanity. So as humans, we tend to lie in order to better our image. This shouldn’t be the way things are, life should be about the honest truth and pointing out our mistakes when made. But as we all know the truth is not always
It is just the nature of life. When there is good, there is bad and when there is honesty, there is deceiving. Life is just the way it was created. No one will ever receive a good result from lying, but many people still do it anyway, to protect themselves or their love
Although I consider myself to be an overall honest person, lying is a part of my daily life. I use these lies when they are more convenient to me or to another person, and when they will get me out of trouble. The following are some of the ways I lie regularly.
Lying the one form of communication that is the untruth expressed to be the truth. Immanuel Kant states that lying is morally wrong in all possible ways. His hatred for lying has made him “just assumed that anyone who lied would be operating with a maxim like this: tell a lie so as to gain some benefit.”(Landau,pp.171) This is true for a vast number of people, they will lie in order to gain a certain benefit from the lie rather than the truth. It is similar to if you play a game of truth or dare, some rather pick a dare because it would release them from having to tell the truth. However, those who do pick truth still have a chance to lie to cover up the absolute truth.People lie in order to cover who they truly are. Even if you lie to benefit someone or something else, it would not matter to Kant because he does not care for the consequences. If you lie but have a good intention it is not the same for Kant, he would argue that you still lied no matter the consequence that a lie is a lie. “ While lying, we accuse others for not being transparent. While being hypocrites ourselves, we expect others to be sincere.” (Dehghani,Ethics) We know how it feels to be lied to by a person, so in order to not have the feeling returned, we hope the person will be truthful. We rather be surrounded by truthful people constantly despite all the lies that some people tell. No
Lying is only okay sometimes. Sometimes telling a small lie is better than hurting someone. However, if lying becomes a habit, the people around you might start to mistrust you. You should think about the consequences before lying, the outcome will be different if the truth is told. This is why lying is only okay sometimes.
Lies can be one kind of believe and have fun. For example, if the father and mother tell their kids about Christmas has Santa Claus, who gives Christmas presents to their kids. Some kids usually believe in Santa Claus. In the future, the kids will know it is not true, but they will think it was a good memory in their childhood! I think it is a good way to use lie. Lying can be fun, but doesn’t use it in a bad way on other person because it will lets the person get hurt like my classmate.
I also agree that we should think before we act. First, we tell lies to avoid hurting the feelings of someone. Words are very powerful so when we are friends with someone and we know that they are hurting we usually tell white lies to make them feel better. In addition, we tell lies to protect their own feelings. If we know that a lie can make a person happy then go for it even though it is bad because we love them and we will do everything for them. Second, we tell lies to avoid getting into trouble. An example is we prevent physical and mental harm. A situation that is proper to this is when we are in danger; obviously we need to tell numerous lies to protect ourselves from getting hurt. Third, we tell lies to avoid losing someone. We tend to lie because the truth might ruin our relationship with the person even though we know that when we lie to someone, we already ruin the relationship we have with them. Moreover, gaining the trust of a person is very hard; we tend to push them away because some of us have trust issues, so when we finally gained that trust we are afraid to
