Rebecca Long, a Christian philanthropist writes that a righteous person is morally correct while a good person is a liberal and unselfish.
Although no one is perfect there is a distinct difference between a righteous person and a good person. Rebecca long writes that a righteous person is being right for God, while a good man is being right with humanity.
"Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die" (Romans 5:7). A man can be defined as righteous if he is morally correct and have perfect obedience of the laws God demands and faith, a man who is distinguished simply for honesty and sincerity of conduct, one who has no remarkable claims for amiability of character or for kindness. God promised to give Abraham a son and that he would be the father of many, despite the fact that he was 99 years old and his wife Sarah was 90, way past the normal age to have children. Nevertheless, Abraham trusted in God and as his faith grew more vigorous, the Lord told him to offer his son Isaac as a sacrifice to prove his faith. Abraham obeyed and brought Isaac to Mount Moriah, laid him on the altar and at the last minute God told him not to execute Isaac, but instead gave him a ram to sacrifice. Abraham’s faith had been tested and proved, by believing and listening to God. It wasn't that he was a superior man than others, yet simply that he was faithful in his relationship with God and the Lord reckoned it as

What makes a person good? Is it the way he or she looks, the way he or she thinks, his or her attitude, or his or her religion? For example, in “Good Country People”, People think that Manley is a good county wholesome young man because he is a bible salesman. In Flannery O’Connor’s “Good Country People,” Joy surprisingly becomes Manley’s victim due to her thinking that he is a good country person, her thinking she is smarter than everyone else, and due to him being very misleading.

Not letting his love for his son withhold him from God’s wishes he goes to the mountain and right before he readies himself to kill Isaac an angel calls out to him. Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, “What are you doing for others?” ~Martin Luther King. This quote sums up the meaning of a truly good person. There are certain characteristics that help to describe a truly good person. These are integrity, kindness and looking out and helping others.
What is a “Good Country Person?” Who makes the decision in whether a person is good or not. Is there such thing as good person? When a person thinks that they are always good, it probably means that they are are lying because no one person is perfect. Although there is no such thing as a perfect person, often times people are sometimes perceived to be perfect or better than they really are. Perception is the ability to see, hear, or become aware of something through the senses. In her article on the morality of perception, Gayman acknowledges, “Unlike mere recognition, perception requires the work of the intelligence and demands careful observation and engaged attention” (1). Being able to perceive the character of a person is necessary if a person wants to fully trust another person. In “Good Country People” by Flannery O’Connor, irony, symbolism, and characterization are used to prove that one’s perception of something or someone is not always reliable.
Great men need not be good men. Greatness outweighs good qualities in an individual. It is defined as a state of superiority, a quality possessed by several individuals who stand out from the normal social construct. This quality places an individual under the admiration of the masses. It gives the individual a superior advantage over his fellow counterparts in a specific area of interest in which he has attained greatness. One is only regarded as a great when he has reached the pinnacle of success in his area of interest. On the other hand good is a quality possessed by a fairly larger amount of society in comparison to those who possess greatness. Good is a quality that requires an individual to uphold ethically sound qualities in
First of all, while the definition of a good man and a good citizen tend to overlap for the most part, there appears to be a slight difference between the two. A good citizen is the one who does what is good for the city, and for the benefit of the community. He is the one who obeys the laws. A good man however, is a just man, who achieves and possesses superior virtues. It appears that the definition of a good man is way deeper than the one of a good citizen and there is no reason to assume that the two are the same.

What does it mean to be a good person? How can one respect oneself without hurting others? Are we able to judge whether a decision is wrong or right? Do we really know what love is? ... Questions like these have always existed, but what happens when an author tries to comprehend the complexity of being ‘good people’? Is it possible to write about an issue like this? In David Foster Wallace’s short story “Good People” from 2007 we experience an attempt to do so.
