Recently, Jennifer Siebel Newson had found out that she was pregnant and was having a baby girl, but despite the happiness of the joyful news, she was worried on how her daughter could grow up to be emotionally healthy in the culture, which consisted of the misrepresentation of women in the media, that we have in the world today. She also worried about how she would make sure that her daughter didn’t fall into the trap that she had fallen into as a girl. When Newson was 7 years old, her older sister died causing her to blame herself for her sister’s death. This money could pay for many years’ worth of College classes which would then create a stronger political and professional base of Women in the U.S. which it clearly lacks. More than 67 countries in the world have a woman prime minister or leader and U.S. is not one of them. Every time a woman has gone into a political career she has been undermined by media as either the way she looks or the way she presents herself and not by what her overall intellect consists of. In the same way there is definitely a clear gender bias when it comes to men in a political career or even as a confession in which the only thing that matters is that he is a man who is powerful and he knows what he is doing, as said by women leaders and activists. I feel that as woman become more powerful, media shockingly tries to put them down by throwing back even more backlash which really changes a viewer’s opinion.
As someone who is part of this undermining society, I feel that it is definitely quite shocking how the United States is a country which represents freedom and democracy yet they aren’t able to represent equality among women in their country.
