Abortion is a very controversial subject that has been continually argued over for the past few years and probably many years to come. The main controversy is should abortion be legalized? Abortion is the destruction of the fetus or unborn child while the child is still in the mothers womb. This can be done by almost anyone from the mother herself to back alley abortions and even to abortions by clinics set up especially for this purpose. There are two sides to this abortion topic the PRO-LIFE which is those who are against abortion and the PRO-CHOICE or those who believe it is the woman''s right to choose if she wants to have an abortion. These two groups offer different solutions to problem. The pro-life solution is to have the child …show more content…
One the other hand, the bible also can be interpreted as saying that abortion is ok. The dominant argument for pro-life is that a fetus is living, and therefore has a soul. Ezekiel 37:8-10 tells how Ezekiel was taken by the Lord to a valley which contained many dry, human bones. As he was prophesying, the "bones came together...tendons and flesh appeared on them and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them". That is, they looked like humans, but were in fact dead because they had no breath. He prophesied and "breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet..." The implication of this passage is that an apparently fully formed human is not a living person until it breathes. This would seem to imply that a fetus is not alive until it takes its first breath, after birth . One the whole, the Bible takes no dominant stance on abortion. A large percent of both pro and anti abortion material found in the Bible is open for interpretation, further confusing the issue. After researching about abortion the solution that I find best fit to the abortion controversy is that although abortion is morally and ethically wrong there is no real alternatives for those who are victims of rape or incest. That is why the best solution to this controversy is to legalize abortion for those who are

Christianity and the said issue of abortion shared a complicated history. Different scholars in the early Christian church had different opinions on this subject. The bible has little information written about abortion; in the book of Numbers, there is a passage that talks about a giving a pregnant woman a substance believed to induce abortion. However, this substance would be work if the pregnant woman taking the substance was unfaithful to her husband. The Bible shows reference to the fetus, not in terms of a person but of some property. Evidence of this was shown in the law, which said that a pregnant woman would be fined if she harmed the unborn child. However, if the pregnant woman given the substance to induce miscarriage in the endeavor to determine whether she was faithful died, the person who administered the substance had to be killed. Every church punished and condemned women who
Of course, some argue that God is immoral for doing these things. That is not my point here. I am suggesting that the Bible does not really set forth a consistent pro-life position. God commands the killing of both the foetuses and the infants of enemies. On occasion, he is OK with miscarrying the infants of Israel. In short, the pro-life views of today do not find consistent support in the Bible. The cultures are just too different, yet the Bible is the

Most Christians believe that the Bible is the word of God. Since they believe this, and since they believe the Bible is true, many Christians take a biblical worldview position on the issue of abortion. Christians value God’s commandments in the Bible. They believe the Bible tells them what is right and what is wrong. Since Christians hold the Bible to be their moral standard, that life begins at conception, and that murder is wrong in the Bible, their value judgement is that abortion is morally wrong. They take the moral stance that the Bible has religious authority from God and that they should follow that authority and use it to make decisions on what is right and wrong.
When discussing this question, the term ‘viability’ is often proposed when a question regarding the personhood arises. Viability is the stage the stage of pregnancy that recognises when the foetus can survive birth and exist independent of its mother. This used to be referred to as quickening, when the mother first felt the movements of the unborn foetus. However, this first movement feeling has no connection to viability today.
There are two different perspectives on abortion. These two perspectives are in groups referred to as pro-life and pro-choice. According to the website, Gale Opposing Viewpoints in Context, pro-life supporters claim that life begins at conception, therefore, abortion at any stage in the pregnancy is murder. They believe that life is very valuable and the life of the unborn baby has the same rights as the mother to live. Pro-choice supporters, on the other hand, claim that it is the woman’s right to choose what she does with her body. These pro-abortionists claim that anti-abortionists are truly against the rights of women and the free
That once conception is complete, the tiny human is now its own completely seperate person from its mother. The baby has its own set of DNA and only needs a specific environment to grow in until the time is right- the mother's womb. The development of a tiny human into a newborn baby is a fascinating one. This process from conception to birth has offered up many a few point as to when life actually begins. Is it solely conception, is it a certain number of days after? Is it when we have a heartbeat? Or when the brain begins to function? Is it a human once it can survive outside the womb- after that point we shouldn't be allowed to abort? Or is it not a human until it is born, the cord is cut and the baby is a free agent? These questions are where many debates come from. Some people, scientists, experts just have these viewpoints on life and when it begins.
Abortion, virtually killing, defies the word of God. The Bible contains many rules and regulations to which we are commanded not to break. The Greek word brephos is used to describe an unborn child and an infant, and it’s mentioned countless times in all versions of the Bible. Jeremiah 1:5 says, “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee...". This means that God created every single person, and planned for them to grow up and live a spiritual life. He knew everyone’s name before they were ever created. He even knew how many hairs would be on their head before they ever entered their mother’s womb. He NEVER intended for them to die. Exodus 20:13 says, “You shall not murder”
Over the years abortion has become a serious topic in people’s personal lives and in politics. Everyday Christians argue in favor of abortion and against it. Some believe abortion should be illegal in all instances and some believe there an exception should be made for rape, incest, and health of the mother. On the other side of the argument some believe there should be full legalization up to a certain part in the pregnancy. Many people turn to the bible to see what it has to say about abortion, mainly Exodus 21:22-25. A problem that comes with using this verse is what the verse actually mean. It is important to look through different study bibles and translations of the verse to understand the clear meaning of what the verse means.
From the start of fertilization new human life is in existence. There for a baby is a baby, it is alive, it has a heartbeat and is the mother’s flesh and blood. “Ending this life is not ending potential life, it’s ending a life.”(Brown, Kristi B.) A child is defenseless and dependent on the parents till they are old enough to do so on their own.
Now according to Rick Lewis, PHD in his article “When does a Human life begin? 17 Timepoints” posted on PLOS Blogs, on day 18 after conception an embryo has a heart-beat. This means that this small living thing is alive. If you kill a child after it is born people call it murder when their
Abortion, which according to the Merriam Webster dictionary (n.d.) refers to any action that is taken to prematurely end the life of a growing fetus in its mother’s womb before it is born, is a very controversial topic in our society today. Every day, several women die as a result of lack of access to proper abortion facilities (Kaczor, 2013). It has been estimated that 2% of women within childbearing age i.e. ages 15 to 44 will have an abortion (Medoff, 2013) and the yearly number of abortions worldwide is estimated to be around 46 million ( Kaczor,2015). This statistic is further increased due to the society’s perception of the morality and ethicality of abortion. Pro-life supporters argue that life begins at
One of the most highly debated topics is abortion and whether or not it should be legal. People who oppose abortion, meaning they are pro-life claim that abortion should be completely illegal with no aspects of it whatsoever; it can be a murder for the people standing against it. The other side of the argument, meaning people who are pro-choice, defend it by believing it to be a right been given to the women. They also claim even if abortion was to be illegal, it would still be practiced. Every culture and society have their own issues taking abortion into consideration. Those who need to and want to do abortion will do it no matter what the restrictions are. It would just be done in a more dangerous manner. Abortion should be illegal, since killing a life by any means is morally wrong. However, it can be justified in the case of medical complications or as a result of rape or incest. The issue of abortion has to be understood and dealt accordingly.
