In many cases Archaeology is seen as the “science of trash” because we are able to reconstruct human behavior based on someone's garbage. For this assignment we were given a list of garbage items that a household had in a span of a week. This list consists of a wide range of varieties, from food garbage to garbage from electronic items. We decided to construct a table in which the list of household items were divided amongst different categories.
One of the categories we had was “ food”, which also happened to be the longest category. In this list we have, 1 lb sirloin package, 2 lb hamburger package, 2 asparagus spears, ½ lb sliced deli turkey, 1 can Planters mixed nuts, 1 bag cape cod potato chips, 1 box snyder sourdough pretzels, 1 eight

I am pretty certain that only one person lives in this household because based off the food and household items, there seems to only be enough for one person. This list is based off one full week of someone's garbage and the items presented are not enough for more than one person and the sufficient things they need to get through the week. In this household it seems as if there is only an older female because many of the items can be seen as female oriented. Things that can be seen as females oriented is the “Time magazine”, because females are usually more attracted to magazines than males. Another good reference for why the people is a female is because of the super glue. The super glue can be connected to arts and crafts and females are usually seen to be way more crafty than males. In modern day females tend to be more and more attracted to starbucks. Males are also attracted to this coffee shop but it seems as if females have more attraction towards it. I can assume that only one female lives in the household because there is 1 lb package of starbuck french roast. 1 lb of coffee tend to not be a lot if you drink coffee everyday and by the list we can tell that she does drink coffee
Homelessness is increasing every year and effecting Americans of different age, ethnicity and religion. In Lars Eighner “On Dumpster Diving” he explains what he went through while being homeless. He describes how and what foods someone should be looking for and to always be conscious of what one is eating because there is always a reason why something has been thrown out. He continues to go into detail about other items that can be found in the dumpster like sheets to sleep on and pieces of paper to write on. Things that can keep him busy through the day. Eighner carefully explains to his readers how being a dumpster diver has become a life style for the homeless and this is how they survive. It’s a way of living and they are comfortable
A) A contemporary problem raised in “On Dumpster Diving” by Lars Eighner Is the amount of wealth spent by consumers, and the effect of that. Consumers spend too much money and waste even more when they throw food and clothing away. In the essay he explains the way of life as an scavenger and how to demonstrate how people are able to live by the minimal resources although most consumers continue to buy things they do not need and continue to waste resources that may be valuable to others. Aside from food, he additionally describes the emotional impact that living out of a dumpster can have on a person. He describes finding sad things such as "abandoned teddy bears, shredded wedding books, and pets lying in state." Seeing the pets makes him think about his dog Lizbeth and how she is likely to end up with a dumpster as her final resting place, as Eighner does not see himself having a place for her before she passes on. Rummaging causes Eighner to consider how much individuals underestimate, including the way that they can purchase something new to replace something old that they have discarded. He feels frustrated because of the individuals who don 't have that extravagance.
In Lars Eighner’s short essay “On Dumpster Diving”, he describes his experience of being homeless and the art of dumpster driving. Eighner prefers being referred to as a scavenger rather than a dumpster driver. Eighner stated “I like the frankness of the word scavenging. I live from refuse of others. I am a scavenger.” (383) He describes scavenging as a full time job, that requires a lot of effort. He believes that if one follows certain guidelines and rules, with doing so this could possibly help one to become efficient. One rule is knowing good place and time to look for food and other items, that could be useful. Another rule is knowing how to eat safely from a dumpster . Eighner said
In the gruesome tragedy Macbeth, William Shakespeare explores how the temptation of man, in the form of witches, can “drain one dry as hay.” Temptation cannot create or conceive ideas, it can only act upon the existing flaws and subconscious intentions already planted in the victim's mind. The actions and behaviors that follow are the direct product of the initial act of allowing or preventing ‘gall’ to enter one's mind. This is demonstrated indirectly via character foil, of the two once mighty generals of Scotland's militant, Macbeth and Banquo. Both of these men are subject to the same rootless prophecy from the “Weird Sisters,” however due to their divergent ambitions, decisions, and allegiances in their state of mind is affected to varying degrees, ultimately regulating the lengths to which they will go to achieve their ambitions. If one is to avoid a “life forbid” then they must be able to restrain their “vaulting ambition” through means of “wisdom,” “valour,” and “allegiance clear” as demonstrated by Banquo.
Buddhism is a religion that originated in Siddhartha, which is near the Himalayas, around 563 B.C.E (The Birth and Spread of Buddhism). Siddhartha Gautama was the founder of the Buddhist religion and put forth a set of rules or guidelines. He believed that Buddhism should follow the idea of the Four Noble Truths, along with the Eight-Fold Path Buddhism is a religion that is open to anyone; it does not discriminate against gender, race, or ethnicity, making Buddhism an ideal religious practice. Buddhists believe in reincarnation, nirvana, and dharma. The religion can be seen as a branch of Hinduism, and people refer to Buddhism as a Dharmic religion.
The wooden floors throughout the home may also be perceived as middle class, but in reality have a more practical logic: less work to clean. Which could be a reconfiguration of domestic duty, or a logical decision for a lifestyle which simply does not have time to continually clean. Although on one hand the financial security of being able to live as a single woman outside of marriage reflects a degree of status, it also reflects social and cultural changes in female access to finance and education. A western educational privilege could be considered an enabling background reason for the females cohabiting outside of heteronormative boundaries without crossing over into homosexuality. However, this would be too simplistic, one of the occupants is of working class background and this living arrangement has not always been the case. Furthermore, with regard to inbuilt middle class markers of the space, the house has not been altered since the owner arrived. The blank “gender neutral” colours of the house offer no clues about the gender identity of the inhabitants, but they do reflect a lack of urge to feminize the colours or decoration in accordance with wide held assumptions about female taste. In terms of status, this highlights social and cultural obligations as well as capital, therefore less available time for cultivating and transforming the space. The lack of a need to express identity through material culture can be evidenced through the unfinished paint samples in the kitchen (figure 9), which shows how creativity is manifest through an active lifestyle and domestic chaos (figures 3 5 8 9 and 10 show messy surroundings), rather than the choice of material decoration of the
Do you cringe at the thought of your household items being tossed in a landfill? There are several ways you can do your part to lessen the amount you contribute to the landfill, one of which is to reuse certain items for your garden. Reusing household items for the garden will also help you save money on some of the garden supplies you need. Here are a few suggestions for household items that can be recycled for use in the garden.
Some discards are a no-brainer: jeans that are too small and out of style, stacks of newspapers and junk mail, or baking pans that haven’t seen cake since the dawn of the Paleo diet. The judgment becomes trickier when we consider items we love for sentimental reasons. Approaches range from Marie Kando’s minimalist, scorched-earth purge to Christina Waters’ recognition/value of “creative clutter.”
The Plasma gasification plant will produces electricity for cars, busses, and trucks, the gasification plant makes electricity by trash. It works by a trash truck or by trash being dumped into it. typically uses an inert gas such as argon. It will give electricity for usually for things with gas but now uses electricity so our city stays unpolluted for people's safety and ours. We also have wind turbines and no pollution sites or factories the only factories we have are the healthy ones. Hopefully they will call their friends and will come to visit and hopefully they will stay and buy a house and no people will get sick diseases or die and although we have lots of cars that look like polluting ones we don't we have them there just any electric car.
I was watching TV just like a normal 11 year old would, my mom was cooking, and my dad was doing yard work. Mom realized that the trash can was full, so she called me over to go and take the trash out. The show was almost over but my mom did not care. “Kinsey!” Mom shouted, “You need to take out the trash!”
These days, our earth has been filled by a lot of waste. There is a lot of garbage, plastic waste, and electronic waste. We always produce it and dump it when we need the new one. Our waste are piling up and continuously accumulating. Plastic waste is one of the biggest problems for us now. And our solution in this problem is recycling. In my opinion, recycling is a way to manage used items into new products. We can reduce, reuse, and recycling (3R) waste management (Peter, 2013). We can reduce our waste clothes with reuse it. There are some reasons why peoples recycle used or unwanted items, which are, prevent wasting unusable materials that still have usage after recycled, reduce the application of raw materials, reduce energy
Within the trash sample I analyzed there were around 234 items thrown away within a week’s period. Many of the items thrown away were thrown away in pairs suggesting that two people live in the dwelling that the sample was taken in. Some examples of items thrown away in pairs include, Starbucks cups, church bulletins, and Bounty paper towels. Bounty paper products, napkins and paper towels, show up on the record 24 times, suggesting that Bounty paper products are used over three times per day, corresponding with meals. Other brands that show up in the sample often include Green Giant, four times, Kroger Brand, twelve times. Within the Kroger brand items there are six plastic ziploc bags, this suggests that the people who live in this home either take their lunch to work or school, or pre-package their snacks at home into serving sizes. The two church bulletins, and church offering envelopes, suggest that both members of the household went to church once the week they took their trash sample. Another interesting item thrown away was an old Tommy Hilfiger brand shirt. The members of this household make enough money to throw away old clothes, suggesting that they live comfortably. We also can tell what bank they use because they threw away a check box from Regions bank. There was a lot of first aid items in the trash sample as well multiple boxes of bandages and a box of non-stick gauze pads this suggests that someone in the home had a wound that needed to be dressed.
Joan ShellabargerANTH 103 Archaeology and CultureFirst Assignment: Garbage!October 2, 2017 The list of garbage I was assigned contained nine empty cans of Arnold Palmer, eight empty bottles of Gatorade, five empty bottles of Dean’s milk, one empty bottle pf pure leaf tea, six bags of snack size chips, three empty Pop tart wrappers, one bag of Milano cookies, four empty plastic food containers, two empty pizza Lunchables, two empty single serving pizza boxes, a banana peel and an empty Old Spice deodorant. Given the contents of the garbage list, I believe my subject is a physically active male, 24 to 35 years of age. Possibly Asian or Caucasian, a college student, and making at least 20,000 a year if not more. Using the data that I located on Real-Time - Consumer Demographics. What is my subject gender? There is evidence to support that I am correct it destemming the gender of my subject’s garbage list as of male gender. Gather from the information from the Real-Time – Consumer - Demographics and by observing the behaviors of men in my family, my subject, likemy husband purchases the majority of his items from Drug Stores, Gas Stations and Convenience stores. My first clue to my subject’s gender was an Old Spice deodorant container, the presence of it to me is a tell-tale sign since Old Spice is typically used by men. The Old Spice – I believe this is my strongest clue to this person being of a male gender. The only hesitation is that my daughters have been known to
Trash is not something we think about every day, but managing waste has long-term environmental and economic consequences that can’t be ignored. Since 1960, the amount of waste generated in America has nearly tripled. Our society, including consumers, corporations and governments, must think proactively about reducing our impact on the environment. Although recycling has been embraced by much of the American population, many changes need to be made in the near future to keep up with the increased population which, in turn, creates more garbage and trash. Americans should continue to recycle, but should also make better choices about the products they buy, the packaging involved, and the mode of disposal. Many artists have utilized
My research paper explores ways in which implementation of a waste recycling police will help to increase efficiency in resource use, minimize resource wastage, improve waste disposal, and minimize environmental pollution. The paper is intended to demonstrate how higher learning institutions can contribute to environmental conservation by supporting on-campus waste recycling projects. Being places of research and innovation, colleges and universities are in a better position to invent new and novel ideas about environmental conservation, and encouraging students to be creative and innovative in finding solutions to problems that affect society.
