Recreational Marijuana Should be Legal in all 50 States
Marijuana is illustrated as a dangerous drug, but its not. Marijuana has an epic history and today it has become illegal on a federal level, and punishable by law to possess, or use. Is marijuana all that bad? A threat to our youth and our society? Or is it plant capable of easing the pain of the sick, rejuvenating the weary, and bringing the ease to our stressful lives. Recreational Marijuana should be legalized in United states because we will no longer be empowering criminals, it violates our right as American citizens and it will benefit our economy.
Its not Marijuana its the prohibition that fuel the crimes. The current policies allow criminal groups to make money off of selling marijuana, by keeping marijuana illegal and confined to the black market. If we were to place marijuana in a regulated market and removing it from the underground, criminal market we will no longer be empowering gangs and cartels but rather growing America’s economy (Aleem). For years people that have used marijuana have been looked down upon in America and it's wrong when a person looks at the facts marijuana is a harmless plant that is more beneficial to society than negative. Currently, marijuana occupies 40% of all drug related arrests (Smith). Epilepsy is a chronic seizure disorder that affects nearly 2 million Americans every day. Epilepsy is defined as a neurological brain disorder that creates sudden and reoccurring episodes of sensory disturbance, loss of consciousness, and uncontrollable convulsions (“About Epilepsy” 1). Individual and anecdotal case studies show that marijuana can help control seizures in epileptics. However, medical marijuana usage is not legal in all states. Therefore, parents of epileptics are forced to pick up and move their lives to a new state when they are faced with no other option. The economy is unstable and does not have the time of money to spent on issues that are minute to society. The economical standing point is clear, the economy does not need to execute something that has been pitifully downgraded by society. People do not understand that marijuana crops could also be used as a source of income for the economy. In Arizona 1,500 jobs alone will be created due to the medical marijuana industry, but not only will those 1,500 direct jobs will be made due to marijuana growers and dispensary employees, but there could be another possible 5,000 due to indirect jobs like grocery
When you think of marijuana, the first thing you may think of is someone sitting on the couch getting high, feeling relaxed, and chowing down on some Chinese food. Most people do not think of the major health risks that is included when putting this drug into your body. People say that marijuana is a helpful medicine, one that makes you calm down and feel good. They also say that it is not as harmful as other drugs and alcohol. Those are some reasons as to why people want to legalize marijuana. These reasons are not good enough, therefore marijuana should not be legalized in the United States. If it is legalized, more people will smoke it and cause negative effects on health and families. I have never smoked marijuana and I do not plan to, but I know several people who have smoked it and they wish they never started. I have done lots of research and I know the major health risks involved.
