The red seal certification program was created after the first National Conference on Apprenticeship in Trades and Industries, in 1952. The idea was to have an interprovincial partnership in support of developing a certified, highly skilled and mobile trades workforce in Canada. Red seal certification is not a requirement to perform work in the trades. Obtaining certification does have plenty of benefits. These include increased pay, job opportunities and having a competitive advantage in the job market.
