It is said that it takes a village to raise a child, but that village includes community, school and the parents. Every village contains many different types of people, with different beliefs, morals and as a parent of a child that has attended school in Redwater for ten years, I have found that those different aspects of the village is what truly aids in preparing our children for the real world outside of our village. Not everyone in that village is going get along, the same as everyone in each workplace is going to like each other. If there is an issue that cannot be resolved within our village, or a problem a Doctor can’t solve, we look elsewhere and we keep looking until we find an answer. We cannot have our children live in a bubble where they don't experience bits and pieces of real …show more content…
I have always felt that our opinions and issues have been heard and dealt with in the best way that the staff can, if there was something that was beyond their control, we were aimed in a direction that could help us resolve the issue. Many of the staff and teachers were raised, and went to school in Redwater and have chosen to come back and work here, and some that weren't raised here have chosen to continue teacher in Redwater for many years. It is because they care about our children and with their influence they help us parents, in creating the the great adults that we all want them to be. I do believe in the staff and teachers of our schools. Since we are a small community with small schools, the connections and bonds that many of our teachers have made with the families are irreplaceable. From my experiences, I know they go above working towards giving our children an excellent education, and additional life skills that only a mentor can provide. The teacher's guidance in conjunction with the support and tools that are a parent's role, help to create successful

Please briefly describe the different types of water pollution mentioned throughout the "Poisoned Waters" video. Fertilizers, Nitrogen and Phosphorous caused algae which poisoned the waters. It caused a dead zone. The farmers who own chickens was allowing the manure to pollute the water. The humans race is all responsible as we pollute our water by throwing garbage into it. Soap, household cleaning agents, toothpaste, and other plastic, lubricant and fuels are all poisoning our water.
Where the school goes wrong is where the school tries to deal with issues internally instead of bringing in the elders and families from the community we have sliced our way into; as Mr. Eagle puts it, “It is never about us, without us.” He went on to describe the National Wraparound Initiative which is a needs driven versus services driven model to deal with crisis when the adults don’t know what to do. The process involves finding the important people in the life of the kid having problems, looking at ways to build up the positive traits in that kid by setting short and long term goals that are
In any public high school, there are obviously excessive amounts of issues the students and, frankly, even teachers face. External pressures have forced students to take actions that they don’t necessarily agree with. It is difficult for new friendships to be made, as many are unwilling to break or form new bonds with other individuals. Even so, anxiety spreads from one’s worries about their future and potential outcomes of behavior. In A Separate Peace by John Knowles, the students at Devon School also face their own share of issues that Gene and other students face.
The book, The Color of Water by James McBride presented many aspects of cultural diversity from different individuals to groups of people. The book is an autobiography about James McBride’s mother, Ruth. The author thoroughly explains what Ruth had to go through during the time where diversity amongst individuals was clearly avoided. In addition, it explains James’ life after the death of his father and the ups and downs he encountered. After reading this book, I now have a better understanding of how important it is for people accepted the differences in each other and accept that we are a country of cultural diversity, not divided groups. The analysis of this book will thoroughly explain the positive and
Mark Biller describes the educational system like a delicate ecosystem, all parts of it need to work together if things are going to last. If the community does not support a school, odds are the school will have to close-down. If the teachers don’t work with parents, then kids will not get the support they need. If parents do not support teachers, students loose an
Margaret Brady Mrs. Papageorge 10 Honors English Period 3 6 December 2017 State and Nature Society has taught everyone that the proper way to raise a child is by their parents teaching them appropriate values and beliefs. Parents, whether they realize it or not, do have a lot of influence on their young. The way children are raised truly does build them into the young adults that they will soon become. But what no one realizes, is how easily children get shaped by other things as well, such as our society and surroundings. But what if children get ripped away from everything they know: their society, their home, and their values?
[1] Ruth's memory of her childhood includes the explanation of her drastic separation from her family, that explains why she always avoids the topic of her family when it's brought up. Ruth is hesitant to remember the memories of her painful past.
The Color Of Water: A Black Man's Tribute to His White Mother, by James McBride is a Multiple Point-of-View novel in which a white mother and her black son deal with a recurring question: Is it possible to reject certain parts of one's Identity? They each find themselves lost in a world of racial and religious prejudice. Determined to start a new life, the mother, Ruth, leaves home with one goal: to leave behind her old identity. While searching for a new life, Ruth learns that her own view on topics such as race and religion are sometimes more meaningful to her life than the traditions she had once grown up learning. She uses the method of rejection to not only push her past behind her, but to also open up a world of new opportunities for her new identity.
The lives of children are greatly influenced by the environment they grow up in, and the people they come in contact with. For years, psychologists, researchers, and social workers have studied children, and why they do what they do. All have developed many different perspectives on how to view social problems and the development of individuals.
I can personally say that I have had teachers put in so much extra time to help me, because I was struggling in class. They aren’t getting paid for the extra time they put in; they just do it because they care about the future of their students. If we didn’t have teachers who care for the future of young kids then Oklahoma’s education system would be no existent, we would be dead last and on the brink of having the worst economy in the United States. I have grown up and lived in Norman Oklahoma my whole life and I don’t want to see our education system crumble into nothing or just barely hang on and struggle like we have been for a long time now. I want to see our education system start to work its way to the top and see the teachers who have taught me since I was in Kindergarten finally get paid the salary they deserve. I have traveled all over and have been to more than 30 states and multiple countries and I can honestly say that Oklahoma has some of the most caring, hardworking, genuine, give the shirt off their own back kind of people. So we need to start acting like it and come together as a community and raise the salaries of the people who are some of the most compassionate and caring humans around and that’s our teachers. Some people would say that they are the backbone of our community because they are the ones grooming the kids who will someday run the community and
If they all work together the classroom will not only be a positive environment, but the goals that have been set will be achieved. High-quality teachers are important to have in any school district because they can really make a difference on our student’s life. We need to realize that our students are our future and it is important that they use what they have learned so they can learn to face the world properly with the different type of skills they have learned in school. Some students face complications, but educators are their to help students get through anything. It is always important to ask questions and to ask for help. This is something we encourage most at the Rolla Public School
I have a personal connection with the children in these areas because I am too come from a low income, impoverished, rural area. I understand the hardships that many kids will face because of the lack of educational resources and quality teachers. I believe that many of the obstacles can be abstained if each student is able to be impacted by a teacher who is resilient and passionate as I was impacted by Ms. Gloria Brantley. As a child growing up in rural Georgia I had no aspirations in furthering my education. I did not dream of being a doctor, teacher or lawyer because I did not have the encouragement from my family or other teachers. It was not until I met my sixth grade English teacher Ms. Brantley that I started to believe that I could actually do something with myself and that I did not have settle for the life that I was accustomed to. She saw the determination
Although it is important for families to be involved with their child’s school, school personnel should also strive to create a positive interaction with families of students. Carl Dunst (2002) states that school and parent collaboration is necessary, and if schools take on a more family-centered approach, it will help create a supportive environment and help to strengthen a family’s capacity to enhance and promote a child’s development and learning.
General collaboration with public schools will help individual students achieve these skills to facilitate the raising of standards to a better society. Attending public schools should have a positive impact for community growth and betterment but also the human development of the individuals attending. Education at home and expanding it at school are the foundation for developing respectable citizens. Parents need to stop thinking of school as a place to send their kids so they are in a safe place while they are at work. Teachers should stop seeing children as just a part of their job and get paid accordingly. Public schools can produce all types of young adults but it takes the support of the family and the efforts of all mature adults that come in contact with them to assist in the grooming and educating of well behaved, respectful and respected young adult citizens (Allaria 2011).
