I have been a Central Academy Cougar for the past three years. I suppose it’s about time for me to try something else my senior year. Perhaps I’ll try to be a Monroe High Redhawk. I’ll learn how to do things the “Redhawk” way, I’ll get rid of my Cougar terminology and adapt the Redhawk slang.
In the middle of June I’ll find myself on the football field drenched in sweat, hoping to make a “2-Peat”. I’ll be embraced by all the coaches and fellow players, we’ll all be like one big happy family. On game days the stands will be packed full of screaming fans, all confident that Monroe will win the game. After the win, the opposing team will leave with their heads held high, because we’re only good athletes, we don’t compare to the well rounded student-athletes at their school.

I’ll tell my teachers I forgot my bookbag at home and put my head down when the teacher gets upset. When security comes to pick me up I’ll cause a big scene and scream to the top of my lungs “ I HATE THIS SCHOOL!” Later I’ll get on facebook and rant about how unfair the administrators are and how I got suspended for absolutely no reason.
As a Redhawk, I’ll bring drugs to school and try to smoke marijuana in the bathroom. I’ll get caught rather quickly, have the video of me entering the bathroom alone at the time the smell flooded the hallways and still insist that I have done no wrong.
At lunch time I’ll go through the line and give my lunch number without paying a dime. I’ll sit down with my new group of inseparable friends, we’ll laugh at other people’s outfits and hairstyles. We’ll feel good about it too, because we see no faults in
From the beginning of William Carlos Williams’ poem “The Red Wheelbarrow” the reader is captured by the statement “so much depends” (Williams line 1). As this short work continues the reader is seeing a graceful image that Williams creates. The mind’s eye can envision a painting that is tranquil, yet has the quiet activity of a rural farm home. With this in mind, what exactly is the author sharing with the reader? The poem communicates charmingly the dependence a man has for a vital piece of equipment.
Dumont’s The Red & White is an excellent showcase of her abilities to instil a poignant and ever-relevant criticism in captivating and provoking prose. The Red & White addresses the pressure and problems associated with conforming to societal expectations. The poem articulates the staple items bleach and soup bones as symbols of the lifestyle expected of the archetypal Aboriginal family; bleach to clean with and soup bones to cook with, neither evoking luxury or success but quiet subsistence. ‘Mary’ seeks only to lead a perfectly respectable low income existence in The Red & White, Dumont revisits the trope of respectability as the saviour in another poem on female disempowerment; Squaw Poems.
With the growth of our knowledge-based on societies historic, the old truth is becoming increasingly evident: namely, that action. The sixth line of Canty poem, Fig.6 installation says, “06 Red Shift. D’anciennes véritiés remote du fond des chambres noires.”. When interpreted, it means old truths are reaching back from deep inside the dark rooms. We could understand that Canty is revoking the story of Lili St-Cyr, which could be embarrassing to the other. Therefore, this could irritate them because they want to hold onto this old truth without any newness mixed in. Either from what they were through their social history and understand the identity of this district.
It is said that an individual can do very well when they enjoy what they do. That is
It was the evening before our departure to Richmond to compete in the 1A Basketball State Semi-Finals against Radford High School. We were at practice and Coach Burns wanted to have a meeting before practice. As we gathered around coach, he looked at all of us and said, “I love every single one of you guys.” I think that meant something special to all of us on that team. He trusted us that we would play our hearts out during this game and come out victorious. I think to myself, we can do this; we can beat Radford, who had beaten us earlier in the season.
America, The land of the free and the home of the brave, is one of the stanza's of the "Star Spangled Banner". A song that helped to draw people, from distant lands who were looking forward to enjoying this vast new land called, America. Yes people of all races and nations look towards this country for freedom and plenty. Plenty of opportunities in education, wealth, land , name it this is the place to make your dreams come true. Every moving to a place has to expect changes, some cultural, some environmental, and economic adjustments will have to be made. Young Claude McKay, a Jamaican born writer, moved to the United States with the same excitement and expectation of any other immigrant who arrives on these shores. His purpose for
My son rubs his skin and names it brown, his expression gleeful as I rub a damp cloth over his face this morning. Last night, there were reports that panthers were charging through the streets. I watched from my seat in front of the television, a safe vista. I see the savannah.
I walked off the floor with sweat dripping from my hair. So many thoughts flew through my head that I couldn’t focus on anything. My junior year of basketball felt like it ended as quickly as a blink. It was as if in seconds we went from the stars of the state tournament to the embarrassments of it. I tried to forget the disappointment of it but it still will not leave. My desire and love to win games comes from the more apparent hatred of losing them. Junior year we had a chance to win a state championship, but we lost that chance. That was when I realized that I had one chance left to win. Senior year our basketball success would only be as rewarding as we would make it. The pressure placed on ourselves was substantial, and we faced trials on the road to success. In the end, we stood alone, crowned as the champions, not letting our chance slip away.
Bright lights and dark nights are what every Friday night consisted of for every high school student. Despite every negative comment they got about our football team, students were still out there standing in the freezing cold weather showing support for our football team. What made this football season unforgettable was that after having years of zero points on the board, the football team managed little by little to put points up on the board. As the Hopkins football player comes toward Florencio Guilarte as fast as lightning, he throws the football to his teammate right on time. Breaking history is what this moment is and what they were doing. Breaking the negative comments and showing that they are working hard everyday to improve and make
I did explanations for the ransom of red chief, i also did bell work ,and look at some key words .
Have you ever loved so deep and so unconditionally that it becomes your own way of being?
Okay since I have nothing to share at the moment, I'm going to list things I hate.
I 'm sitting in the principal 's office because they say I started a fight.
My high school football field has held the most significance in my life thus far for a plethora of reasons. Not only is this the place I have spent the time during my high school career, but it is the place I achieved the most personal growth. I first stepped onto this field as a intimidated eight grader being asked to march with the high school band, yet four years later, I walked off this field mature, confident, and ready to start my senior year in a new home. For four years I began each day rehearsing on this field before school. Who I am today was shaped dramatically by what I accomplished on this field. Here was where I felt what it’s like to be truly ardent about something and how much motivation and self-discipline it takes to be successful,
How do your teachers talk to you about drugs? Obviously you see it in the school, how are teachers addressing that, do they talk about it, what happens if they see a kid smoking a joint or something? How does the school deal with it?
