Reflection 2: Born Rich Jay-Z, an american rapper and businessman, once said “As kids we didn't complain about being poor; we talked about how rich we were going to be and made moves to get the lifestyle we aspired to by any means we could. And as soon as we had a little money, we were eager to show it.” In other words, as children we are demonstrated that having money is the way to be happy. We are taught that once we have a large amount of money we will be happy. As we grow up, we realize that money isn’t really the way to be live a happy life. What does it mean to one’s identity to be born rich? To be born rich affects one’s identity because they become known as the “rich guy”. They usually have more connections and most things are easier for them because most things are handed to them when they’re born rich. They usually aren’t very good at being patient because they weren’t taught to learn how to wait and work for what you want, it was just given to them. On the other hand, they learn how to deal with living up to expectation and being able to deal with people similar to that. They’re taught to be perfectionist and continue their family wealth, so they are given a lot of pressure when it come to achieving things. Our society has become comfortable with an “aristocracy” in this country that doesn’t need to work. When it comes to going to college and creating a future it becomes unfair.
