What is myth? At first I associated the word myth with more of the definition of a legend or sagas, as analogous to history with the characters of the stories being heroic in the sense of mere mortals experiencing the wondrous powers and abilities of those “out of this world” people, such as gods and actual heroes or divine people. I didn’t believe that myths were created from actual historical events or were the origins of those historical events, including the etiology of everything and how this caused that; but yet I believed it was more of a fictional story compromised to highlight on theoretical reasonings on how something came into being. Myth was characterized in my head as being passed along through history like a fairy tale or folktale, verbally as oral history. Similar to this reasoning, I imagine myths being used as fictional stories to teach a lesson or warn children about something they may encounter in their life because the word “myth” in the Greek language translates to the word “story” and when used in different situations, the word story can have the connotation of something fictional with fairytale-like characteristics before the idea of a historical event pops into your head. On top of being used to teach a lesson or warn, I believed myths were also ways for one to answer a big question that in reality doesn’t have a definite meaning to or yet has a scientifical meaning that some are unwilling to accept. The major characteristic of a myth that I believed
When people think of myths they usually think of the Greek or the roman but there are many more cultures with myths but they usually all relate to the same things. Myths are the traditional story, especially one concerning the early history of a culture (NA“ Myths”). One of the most popular myths is the Greek story of Hercules the strongest mortal alive. Did you know that the native American tribe Blackfoot used myths too? Yes, they did many native American tribes used myths too ,but they are more likely to be called a fable or a folktale. There is a tale of a Crow Brings the Daylight which is related to the Greeks story when Apollo son of Zeus rides a gold chariot over the sky and carries the sun. Then there is the Chinese which is called
Mythology serves to create an explanation for why the world is the way it is. All religions have mythology in them and myths help people understand history. Myth can mean so many different things to different people. Some myths are total fiction, while others may have a hint of truth in them. But most myths are more of a symbolic and metaphoric truth, rather than a literal truth, because most of the time myths cannot be proven and people are not trying to prove that they are true. Myths become true to the people who believe in them and they use them as a sort of lens through which they see the world. They use myths to create explanations for themselves as to why the world is the way it is and they use them to help cope with the difficulties of life. Myths are a natural outgrowth of our imagination and our passions.
A myth is a symbolic way of expressing truths and beliefs that are accepted by society. Myths, which are reading literature that is imaginative, teach truths that may not always have a basis for historical fact. Myths, which communicate ideas in story form, are creative stories that explain and teach religious truths of sin and consequence.
Myth – Is a cultural featured folklore story of some early history regarding a supernatural phenomenon or wild belief. Myth A traditional story about Gods, ancestors, or heroes, told to explain the natural world, or the customs and beliefs of a society.
The culture of mythology is originated as the means of documenting what the culture thinks to be real and have many facts about the beginning of the universe around them. For example, over time and documentation the word of religion took up other meaning for different cultures. When a brand new religion dominates over the previous religion the old book or documents become myths and legends so then beings regarded past recordings as false or fantasy but with no real historical value. That’s when the word myth comes in to play.

What is a myth? When one thinks of a myth perhaps one thinks about a story being told by the fire, or a dramatic tale about an invincible hero, or perhaps a cosmological occurrence that caused everything to be. Personally, when I think of the word myth, I think of the ancient Greeks or Romans with their many gods and goddesses; however, to most, the story being told by a myth is simply that, just a story. To most the term “myth” has been confused for a legend or folklore. The truth of the matter is however, that to religious scholars, a myth is more than just a story; a myth is how a society’s religion came to explain what seemed the inexplicable. With modern science booming and being capable of explaining the events
To start off, myths are stories that have been passed throughout many centuries, and are very popular in the world. A myth is a traditional story explaining some natural or social phenomenon usually involving supernatural beings or events. These legends can go from being almost identical to varying so much from each other. Although stories "Bladur" and "The Spirit Bride" seem awfully alike, there are many contrasting things.
Myth, a myth is a traditional story, especially one concerning the early history of a people or explaining something natural that a culture believes. Myths are very important to religion and they help to define different cultures through storytelling and legends. Personally I had many different myths to choose from, having a very mixed background. I chose a tale that meant something to me and my family, the myth of how the rainbow was made. This legend is a Native American tale, told by the Tohono O’odham people. Its very light and happy that’s one of the reasons why it was told to me was a kid. This myth may seem like just a children's story but it has a deeper meaning that anyone can interpret for themselves. First of all
There are different types of definitions for the word myth. Etymological definitions concentrate on the subject at head being untrue. One of these definitions states the word myth is defined as a story about the gods that is false. Another type of definition is sociological-theological definitions. In this definitions, the person telling the myth is only telling what is true to them. The story is not false in their mind. The truth is whatever the person thinks is true.
There once was a god named Perculus, he was one of the three lost gods that were destroyed by Zeus. He was the god of education; he was responsible for teaching all the citizens of Greece the basic ways of living. Once Zeus got into power he was jealous that someone other than himself was teaching the citizens so he sent him to Hades, along with two other gods for other personal reasons, Diminutive the original god of Truth and, Gargantuan the god of punishment.
