This journal reflection will discuss my expectations for the course, interests in learning, and how I plan to use the course to aid in my work in the adult education field.
Erik Erikson’s specialty is in the field of ego psychology. As an ego psychologist, his theory on ego identity is renown as the best-known theory of psychosocial development. Erikson’s theory defines ego identity as “the conscious sense of self that we develop through social interaction which is inclusive of all beliefs, ideals, and values that help shape and guide a person’s behavior” (Cherry, n.d., p. 1).
One of the interesting facts about these videos to me is that University of Phoenix produced and used challenge coin without the approval from the military just to trick veterans to believe that Department of Defense has looked and examined that organization and authorized them in some way to provide them with the
When I first decided to expand my education, it had been so long since I had been to school, and I was very hesitant. I talked at length about my decision with my husband and with his encouragement, decided to enroll but still was not quite sure which degree program to enroll in. I knew that this was something that I had always wanted to do since I obtained my Associates Degree in Nursing, but I did not have the courage, nor did I want to give up the time with my family and children. I second guessed my abilities and my knowledge because it had been so long since I had been in college. Now that my children are about to graduate high school and
Although this is my second semester at Liberty University I have already completed the APOL and BIBL course which are required for my degree. As this would conclude the required Bible courses, I just hope to gain knowledge of a different aspect of the Bible. From my experience from the classes I have taken with Liberty University this far I realize that knowledge of the Bible is expected and I hope this course sets me up with more tools to complete various assignments. Through my prior courses this past summer I gained a refresher on things which I learned throughout high school and this course is something that I have actually never taken before. With it being new I just hope it brings insight into topics that are current and hopefully I
On October 27, 2016, we met to obtain clarification on your work destinations and work performed on the day prior.
I feel this week was very beneficial to me as well as to my business career. I think the information was helpful and made me understand things better. I was unaware of some of the terms in the book, but learned them. This week was smoother than the first week. I thought the first week has been the toughest so far. I feel I am doing well in the course, but I will continue to do better on my assignments.
I have given quite a few speeches in the last few years, even at such a young age. Though I was proficient when I started this class, I have improved even more in these last six weeks. My strengths definitely fall in my organization and content. However in my delivery I often lack in vocal variety and volume, mostly due to nerves, and I often rushing my conclusions. Due to the rank I have in organizations like the National Honor Society, I will often have to speak in public or address my peers so I plan on continuing to practice for my speeches out loud and hopefully I will improve.
As a tutor, it is important to know these cues when working with a student and apply different methods that will work perfectly for each student. This will show students that tutors do not treat all their clients the same and that each problem they have has its own way in uniquely being solved. This especially relates to non-English speaking students because they are not familiar with our grammar rules and text, they would be taught with a more hands-on approach than a native speaker, who the tutor would be able to guide. Being hands-on is very different than taking control of the session. Often tutors have the problem of editing their student's paper instead of improving the student as a writer, but they should not be the primary fixer, in this case, forcing the student to take control of the session. The article, “Minimalist Tutoring: Making the Student Do All the Work,” explains that tutors often become “editors” or fixers when working with students. They explain that to avoid this stigma, tutors must make the student the primary agent in the session while the tutor takes on a secondary role of keeping the writer focus on his or her work (Brooks,
As a student at Illinois Valley Community College I have been involved in many organizations and groups. During my first year at IVCC I was invited to join Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society as well as was named to the IVCC Presidential Honors list. Recently I was recognized at IVCC’s annual student academic honors banquet where I was recognized for having honor roll for two consecutive semesters while being enrolled fulltime. I was selected for several scholarships during my two years at this community college which has helped support my education as well take a burden off my family’s finances. Leadership positions that I have fulfilled is a student ambassador at Illinois Valley Community College. Every week I volunteer my time by working the front desk for an hour on Tuesdays.
Dear journal, today in class I did a multiple choice on the Ethics of Research. I learnt so much from that activity from protecting participants from harm to inform consent. I have erudite that ethical considerations are a significant feature of research that all teacher researcher should be knowledgeable about. During class, the first thought came to my mind about ethics was rules for distinguishing right or wrong. According to Resnik (2015) he believes that Ethics is a norm that distinguish between what is acceptable and unacceptable behaviour. I think it is imperative for me to adhere to the ethical norms in research in which i will have Informed consent to avoid deception, confidentiality, anonymity, protecting an individual from harm.
My week was long and a bumpy rollercoaster. I was sick towards the first half of the week which made my days drag. However, I remained energetic for my class because this week was Read Across America week. The school had a Dr. Seuss book theme each day. I dressed up and the kids dressed up. It was so sweet and we delved into Dr. Seuss. We discussed his stories messages, the rhymes, real words vs. made-up words, and connections to our lives. The only downside was that a handful of our students were sick this week. On Wednesday, our class started out at fourteen and by 12:45 we had eight students left. It made classroom management easier, but I missed the smiling faces of the absent students.
This week at Bridge House things are not running so smoothly. After returning from a long weekend I notice a change in the client ratio. Some clients was discharged over the weekend, resulting from unappropriated behaviors. I found the challenge to be the coed residential setting. This setting for some takes the recovery focus away. Individuals begin to form intimate relationships, and lose their focus. They become once again unable to make importance decisions for themselves. As seen with the two clients who decided to leave the program together, and the other two who got caught having imamate contact. I truly think that a rehab setting should not be coed.
In this journal, I will reflect my initial journal from the start of the course. I will briefly discuss how my academic writing changing over the duration of this course. I will also discuss the areas I need to improve in the most and lastly, the areas I need further guidance and strategies to improve that were identified.
During the time spent in this class, I have learned about the methodology of critical thinking and how to better collect relevant information which can be used to formulate an argument. While taking this course, I also can use this within my everyday life when I approach different people from different walks of life. I can say with more certainty that I now have more knowledge which ultimately can be used in my everyday encounters, but more importantly will enhance how I will communicate with people in my civilian work.
