A family is someone foundation. They are molded and shaped by their family dynamics. There are so many factors that we can look at how a family operates. For example, the structure and the process of the family. However, at times those variables are not always visual to others. The structure and process are usually passed down from generation to generation. When looking back on generations to generations, we start to realize where our family values come from, the experiences they are willing to tell the next generation. When I was younger, I remember stories that my mother would tell me about her childhood experiences. Coded messages play a huge role in my family from generation to generation. Through her storytelling, there were coded messages to understand how things were when she grew up. I would listen carefully. It gave me another perspective of different generations and the time era that she was brought up. Believe it or not from storytelling we learn why our parents, grandparents do certain things in their own nuclear family.
One of my mom’s favorite stories that she would discuss is how she was the oldest out of her three siblings from my grandmother. My mom had to be the person who looked after her siblings while my grandmother was at work. She would be the one to walk with her sibling to school and then go to school herself. After school was over, she had to go and wait for her brother and sister to get out and head home and get ready for the next day. That was her continuous routine. Her responsibility was cooking and taking care of the house before my grandmother’s arrival home after work. My mother revealed the coded message that she would receive from her mother. If the house was not clean or not to the liking of my grandmother, she would mess up the house and tell her to re-clean. I remember asking my mom why did she have a scar above her eyebrow and she reply that Nana (my grandmother) had thrown a glass cup at her because there were water spots. The coded message was if the house were not clean to my grandmother liking there would have been something thrown or messing up the house again. Once my mom told me, I was slightly hurt. The fact that my grandmother was so sweet to her grandkids and I
To get a full understanding of family theory one must first have the understanding of what is theory. Theory is a systematic collection of concepts and relations. Family however can mean a broad range of things to a person. One person may consider family to be father, mother, sister and brother; however, to someone else family could be just one parent with one child; and to another it could their friends. Family systems theory however defines the family as a system. Family consist of interrelated parts, each impacting the other and adding to each other’s growth (or detriment) of the other. And because family is always changing, growing, self-organizing, and becoming accustomed to each other and the exterior environment (White & Klein, 2008). Now let’s take a look at the
Family. It is a very fluid yet rigid idea. It has a wealth of definitions, all of which range in degree and magnitude, and vary from person to person; yet the concept of how a family should work and operate is very concrete in most American minds. Family is a bond that is crafted every second of everyday until it is powerful, and this can shape beliefs, outlooks, and confidence. A study found that children with father figures that are highly involved benefit because an immense range of emotions are modelled to them as children, and consequently they will be more adapt at recognizing and expressing their own emotions. In contrast children
A family consists of a group of interacting individuals related by blood, marriage, cohabitation, or adoption who interdependently perform relevant functions by fulfilling expected roles. (Edelman, Kudzma, & Mandle, 2014, p. 150)
A family is seen as a group of people who are biologically or psychologically related. They connect on historical, emotional
What is a family? Family is defined in many different ways by different people. The main purpose in being a part of a family is it being a safe haven. When something goes wrong, your family should be the first group of people you would turn to. I define family as being a group of people who always sticks together no matter what the situation may be.
There are many aspects that contribute to the idea of family. Family by definition, is a group of people related by blood (e.g. parents, siblings, cousins, etc). In class we have read and discussed many pieces of work that depict the influences of family and/or home on the individual. One of the two I will discuss is “Charlotte Temple” by Susanna Rowson, as well as “A Narrative of the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson” by Mary Rowlandson, both of which demonstrate the power of familial bonds and its effect over the course of your life. The impact of family, whether it is weak or strong, will define who you are as a person.
A family can shape one’s identity. A family can guide you through life. They can be supportive and helpful. This is important
Over time the meaning of the word family changed dramatically including family values. To me family is the people I live with such as my father, mother, sister, and brothers. Family provides support to its members by depending on one another and they teach us how to socialize and function in the society. For example, learning what behaviors or actions society consider as normal. Moreover, types of family that society considers as normal also changed. For example, now families like same sex, conjugal family, and single parent family are considered as normal where in the past nuclear family the only family considered as normal by society.
“Family refers to a collection of people, related to each other by marriage, ancestry, adoption, or affinity, who have a commitment to each other and a unique identity with each other. This collection forms an economic unit. The adults in the collection have varying degrees of responsibility for young
The family is an intimate domestic group made up of people related to one another by bonds of blood, sexual mating or legal ties. It is the smallest and most basic social unit, which is also
The word “family” is often used in connection with a person’s ancestry. Most families are based on kinship. Members belong to the family through birth, marriage, or adoption. Family plays the most vital role in our daily life and family is the finest thing that you can ever desire for. It’s the family who assists their child in hardships of life and give affection no matter what happens. Human personality reflects on what his /her family status is and what their families have taught them.
A family can be defined in many ways, but the common denominator in all is the love and fulfillment one gets by being surrounded by family members. Families can sometimes be at odds with each other, but the strain of this type of relationship usually creates an upsetting feeling to the people involved. People want others to rely on, talk to, do things with, share, love, embrace, and be part of. No matter what the family dynamic is the qualities the word family has will remain the same, as time goes by, and life evolves once again for every person living their
Whenever people ask me the question: Who are the most important people in your life? I always start with my family which includes my father, my mother, and my brothers and sisters. Though I don’t believe everyone will answer the same to that question, we can all agree that family is very important to everyone. Though I am not coming from a perfect family, I can say that for the most part it was enjoying and satisfying. My family of origin had more structure and was perhaps closer to being excellent than chaotic. There were clear roles and association with my family. In this paper, I will talk about three concepts that I learned from this class that were evident in my family of origin: factor of mate selection (opposite attracts), parenting style (authoritative), and social learning theory in child development.
The definition of family is defined in various ways to many different people. Many people may say their family includes the family of orientation, extended family, and family of procreation. It all depends on how the child is raised. Three important factors, out of six, that I consider to be the main functions of family are socialization, economic cooperation, and care, protection, and intimacy. Some families may very well address these functions, while others may not. And because of that, family may be quite hard to define because it goes above and beyond the surface.
The photo that I have chosen to reflect on depicts me sitting on a large green chair with my brother. I was anywhere from five to eight, and he was around eleven or thirteen. He is looking out of frame and has one of those old CD players from the nineties in his lap, his hands hovering over its silver hardware, frozen in a hesitant stance. He looks entertained, or maybe just distracted. He has what my family calls his “Harry Potter” glasses perched somewhat low on his nose, and true to the late nineties and early 2000s’ common style, his black hair is spiked up. Beside him is me, in a light shirt, wearing the thin headphones that accompanied the CD player in his lap. I look either deep in thought and like I am taking in the music very thoroughly or very uncomfortable. I will let you in on a hint: I was very uncomfortable.
