Dear Mr. Wilhite, I am extremely intrigued for writing class this year. I hope in this class I will be able to grow into a more proficient writer; to go beyond the basic level of writing I am at now. One of my most problematic areas in writing is when I fail to truly commutate my idea. I may try to clearly convey my points, but my writing still seems choppy, underdeveloped, and it makes for an unpleasant read. That, and my grammar makes for a bumpy adventure for whoever reads my work. Hopefully during these next couple of semesters I will be able to overcome those issues so in the future I can focus more on improving my technique. For me, my favorite kind of writing is simply when I have the opportunity to write about something I feel passionate
I began writing with basic vocabulary and barely any sentence variety. As the year progressed, I learned to advance my vocabulary and word choice in addition to incorporating a diversity of sentence structure. Nearing the end of the school year, I acknowledge that I have grown and learned more about writing. I anticipate that I will receive even more arduous writing assignments that require more research and time. Although it will be challenging, I feel confident that I will do well because I feel well prepared from all I’ve done this year. As I grow older, I will have to continue to write. I know I can take the knowledge I’ve learned this year and apply it to future papers for years to
From elementary school to high school, I was taught that my writing had to be structured and follow strict criteria. After I arrived in Mr. Mukherjee’s ENG 102 class, I was given the opportunity to express my creative freedom through words and graphical pictures. It can often be difficult and challenging to improve upon my own writing abilities unless motived with an idea in mind. When looking back on my time at ASU, I thought about the goals that I wanted to address for myself and the course goals that my instructor had set for the class. These goals include ones that I had accomplished to the best of my ability and ones that I need to address as well as improve.
In the film "Witness" starring Harrison Ford, producer Peter Weir has created two different worlds with different value systems. He has done this through the use of juxta-positioning, camera angles set at different heights and the process of character development. In the Film, John Book played by Harrison Ford plays the parts of detective, protector, and refugee, all to solve the murder case of another Police Officer. The only witness to the murder is 7-year-old Samuel who is unofficially under Books protection against everyone from corrupt cops to the murderer.
There comes a time in life where we see an impossible obstacle, and do the best that we can to overcome it. For me, this was my AP English Language class in high school during senior year. The time was now, summer is nearly over. I analyzed my strengths and weaknesses, giving a full re-evaluation of myself. In the end, I consider myself an average writer. There have been times in the past when I’ve written letters or personal stories. However, those have never been my strongest set of skills. While I have been serious with my writing, I never recognized the unbelievable advantages that good writing has. Therefore, I’ve made it my goal to improve my literal skills and become a great writer. Maybe this new class will assist me in becoming that
The art of writing is a complex and difficult process. Proper writing requires careful planning, revision, and proofreading. Throughout the past semester, the quality of my writing has evolved significantly. At first, I struggled with the separation of different types of paragraphs, and I found writing them laborious. Constant practice, however, has eliminated many of my original difficulties, and helped to inspire confidence in my skills. As a collegiate writer, my strength lies in my clear understanding of the fundamentals of writing, while my primary weakness is proofreading my own work.
My writing struggles are legitimate and something I have always had a hard time with since grade school. Writing has been one of my worst subjects that concern me because when writing an email or a memorandum, I always wonder what the reader is thinking or saying about my writing. However, there is no feedback and things just move along, so I am happy to be in this course. We have been discussing writing for the audience which should produce papers or discussions with a higher level vocabulary, but these words elude me, along with commas, semicolons, colons and transitional words. Dr. Horgan, you have been spot on with your assessment of my writing, I have difficulties in these areas, and this has been a known fact. Before I started
Writing this class is really a challenge for me.I never thought I would spend so much time writing. This is something I've never had before. However, I will turn the impossible into a possibility in this semester, and I believe I can do it.Because there is a good saying that you don't try to see how you know you can't do it.It is true that I will complete my challenge in this semester and keep moving towards my goal.In the future, my goal is to be a good salesman, and this skill is absolutely indispensable. To convince a person, you have to present your own points of interest and strong empirical evidence that you are right.Writing this class is the best way to strengthen this skill.I want to talk about how I grew up in writing and how much skill I learned.I'm going to tell you what I have encountered in writing and what challenges I have and how I overcame him. There are three challenges that I find difficult. At the beginning, the Internet quotes a strong and powerful argument to support my article with the use of grammar and paragraph architecture.
Upon entering Columbia College, writing was one of my weaker areas. It was very important that I gained the necessary knowledge and confidence to become a better writer. I didn’t know how to express myself and felt as though my writing was not my interest. As a result of taking English 101, I have gained a better understanding on how to properly research and build a satisfactory paper. Every paper that was assigned seemed like a struggle to complete. Before entering this class, I did not know the meaning of a thesis or why it was important, however, I obtained this skill quickly. I noticed that every paper has an argument and the thesis helps clarify the rebuttal. Now, I have a new outlook on writing. It’s a way to express my thoughts and allow others to see things through my eyes. There is no doubt that I still have a long way to go, but I know if I continue to write, I will get better. Just as I developed more skills in class, the various papers assigned helped to better structure the writer in me. In addition, the subject areas were not only interesting, but very informative and made it much easier to write about my experiences.
Anterograde Amnesia While doing some research on the movie “50 First Dates,” the character “Lucy Whitmore” also known as “Drew Barrymore” developed a disorder known as “Gold Field Syndrome.” Lucy developed this disorder due to a car accident which led to her eventually losing her short term memory. Lucy’s brother “Doug Whitmore” also known as “Sean Astin” and Lucy’s father “Marlin Whitmore” also known as “Blake Clark” had to constantly make Lucy believe every day was the same day. Doug and Marlin was trying to make Lucy believe it was her father Marlins birthday which was the same day she developed her disorder from the car accident.
While attending writing class, I learned about the 4 steps in writing, bases for revising, organizing, and connecting specific information, and I also learned about the different types of essays such as descriptive, narrative, process, cause and effect and argumentative essay. I have been a student at Milwaukee Area Technical College for 1 semester, and over the course of my enrollment I have grown and learned more that I knew prior to attending this writing course. Participating in this writing class has taught me so much more than stuff about literature and language, it has taught me another way of expressing myself. I have learned here how to write and express myself, how to think for myself, and how to find the answers to the things that I don 't know. Most importantly I have learned how important technique, outlines and organization are. My goal in this paper is to inform writers about how my writing skills have improved.
Even though something my taste good, it may not be healthy. I agree with schools only selling healthy drinks like water, white milk, and natural juices. My first and most important reason is health. The second reason is hyperactivity. My last reason is because of the cost. As can be seen, I agree with schools only offering healthy, natural drinks like water, white milk, and natural juices.
Squeezing out the clear, odorless water from the cloth, I hear twigs being crushed. As I turn I notice it's that blonde haired boy with those strange eyes, he has this grass green radiating out from his pupil while the rest was this nut brown. I knew him well since he was part of our family, Pure Sect, which the Prophet himself told us that God has blessed us with that name.
I am so happy to see my family! Everyone is just like I remember them, except they are 12 years older. My mother squeezed me so tight that I thought she might break my bones. She had thought I was lost at sea forever. I told her about the sudden storm that swept our fishing boat away and our rescue by Captain Whitfield. I can only imagine what he and his whaling crew must have thought when I swam out to his boat. I’m sure it is quite unusual to come across three young teens who had been living for five months on a deserted island!
Writing is way that we can express ourselves, it is a way to interface ideas and thoughts and to prove a point. Throughout my writing experience or process I have struggled with writing especially using details or really expressing myself my work. In this course Facts & Fiction: Portraits in World Art I expect to gain more knowledge on how to write a perfect essay, story, letter, and assignment. I expect to learn new genres and rhetorical situations. I also think my writing will improve academically and I will develop my skills in writing. Also taking my writing to a different point of view, level, and writing something different rather than the usual. I look forward to getting feedback from my peers and learning their thoughts on my writing and how they can help me improve.
Over the course of this past semester, my ability to write has improved tremendously. Prior to undertaking this course, my expertise in writing was not as fine-tuned as it should have been. I had never previously been enrolled in a class specifically tailored to writing-- which was quite clear. Upon reading my past works, it becomes apparent that my writing style consisted of fluff, small words, and inconsistently structured sentences. These problems have, for the most part, been remedied with the coursework I have tackled in College Writing. Rather than long, drawn out papers that take an eternity to reach the primary point, my recent work is much nicer in terms of composition and grammar. I credit these improvements to the three primary
