This semester, you helped me learn that English isn’t just about writing, that it is about learning, too. You taught me how to write an article reflection, like the one about how sleep deprivation can cause damage to your health. You also taught me how to annotate articles like how eating too much added sugar may be killing you. Another thing that I learned from you this semester was the WODs. They helped me expand my vocabulary and make my writing more interesting. An assignment we did this year was shakespearience. If you hadn’t given us this assignment, then I probably would never have read any plays by Shakespeare. least helpful assignment was shakespearience because you never genuinely talked about his plays in class. You said we had to read the books, but we never went over them in class. What if we had questions about the book? You never took the time to check up on us to see how we were doing. The best and most helpful assignment yo taught us was the one about Malala. It genuinely helped me(and the rest of the class) understand what is happening to girls and women in third world countries. I understand now the importance of education. People all around fight for what we have so easily. We take for granted what we have and most of us don’t know what is happening to others. So this lesson about Malala taught me and hopefully the rest of my class to appreciate what we have. Nothing that you taught us needs to be revisited. I understand mostly everything that has been learned this semester, it just took me a lot of time to process it. My class last year, mostly did just personal narratives or book reports. I just wasn’t expecting you to be so hard on us, especially the first semester. Although, you pushed my class and me to new limits, and I hope to do better the next part of this school year.
As my teacher, I honestly think of you are a great teacher yet sometimes, you seem like you don’t care about us. For example, there was this one time in class when we were taking an assessment and when I asked you for help, you just ignored me and looked away. Sometimes I wish you would try to help us more on things we are struggling with instead of just not caring at all. Your strengths are that you are very
This semester has impacted me and my writing abilities greatly. I feel I have improved in all aspects of writing. Throughout High school writing was never my preferred subject, but after taking this class I have developed an interest in writing and no longer look at it as a chore, but more as a method to express myself.
Overall i enjoyed last semester even though it wasn’t the best for me,it was a good experience. So.So now when i look back i know what not to do so my grade won’t ever be as low or get to the point to where it was in first semester. It’s always good to go through things like this so it won’t happen again.I have been acknowledged to know now to get all my participation points, notes and get all the reading we tend to have done, this semester. You live and you learn and i learned a lot last semester which made it even more enjoyable the whole
Throughout this semester I have learned many valuable resources, and tools. The big thing you taught us was how to write and argument paper. Also I have learned different tools on summarizing, how to better my skills for peer reviews, new library skills, and MLA format. Most of these I already knew, but you taught us them more in depth, and you gave me better understandings of them.
Over the course of this semester I learned a lot about myself as a writer. This English 101 class has really allowed me to expand my essay structure and ways of thinking. This was my first college writing course and it has given me much more freedom when writing because in high school I felt limited and like what we were writing was not very important. In high school I would write essays to just to fulfill the required word or page count and to a degree I still feel like this but maybe that is why I am an engineering major but in this course I actually was able to express my ideas and for the first time really test the limits of my writing capabilities. I really enjoyed being able to incorporate my voice more in my essays and I believe
I also just can’t help but be inspired by great leaders throughout history who saw a change and then made it happen, and although my knowledge is limited, I admire and am encouraged by them. Specifically I have learned so much about African-Americans’ struggle throughout history, and how it is still an issue today. Understanding the past of issues really helps with the way we perceive it today. I’ve also learned not to judge people, and to never write someone off based on a single experience. To be honest Mr.Peters, first semester I did not really like you. It was nothing about your personality, I was just struggling in the class and I projected my frustrations onto you. And although you gave me my first B, I have come to love and respect you as a teacher. Now, you’re my favorite teacher, and I’m sad that this year is over. I appreciate your constantly positive demeanor and the way you joke around
Since this assignment, not much has changed about me as a student. I find that if I am engaged with the material of classes and with my classmates I will have a lot to discuss in class. My Psychology of Gender class further proved to me that professors who are very open to different ideas and veering off the planned topic promote the greatest learning and reflecting. I was able to reflect about societal issues and norms more in the class than any other class before it because of the great atmosphere that the professor
This semester was my very first semester as a college student. Being the first, it was probably the semester I would learn the most in. I learned the expectations for writing that I will have to live up to for the next four years of my college career. Though my high school teachers were usually demanding because I was in the Honors English section throughout high school, writing in college has still ?raised the bar? for me. Also, in high school, we would have weeks to pick a topic, create a thesis, outline the paper, write the paper, and then revise the paper. In college, the time restraints are not quite as lenient. I?ve had to learn to manage my time and be more productive with what free moments I
The toilsome component this semester was transitioning from being a high school level writer to a college-level writer. However, English 10 has by far been my best experience in writing. By taking this course I have retrieved many helpful elements, that will help me become a successful writer throughout college. In high school, essays often gave me stress and anxiety, however, when taking English 10, I was able to learn to enjoy the process of writing purposefully and mindfully. Even though, I have taken advanced placement English courses in high school and have taken a practice run of college level English over the summer with Professor Brenda Venezia, I was still able to retrieve a lot more from this course. To showcase my progress in
It was nice to read the different perceptions and interpretations of my classmates. They all had great responses that sometimes made me think differently about the topic we were discussing. It made me realize that history is not just black and white. It’s always up discussion and most people won’t agree all the time. Not every person feelings George Washington was the greatest president to ever lead the United States. I wish we spent more time on the Roaring 20’s because it was so influential and the change that ultimately “Changed America”. I disliked the topic about the Gilded age because although this was a new growth in the world, it was filled with corruption. It was upsetting to see how politics can dominant huge corporations and ruin people’s lives. It reminded me of the world today and how money can change the outcome of a society. If I could improve this class, I would add more projects or interactive group projects. I enjoyed the book reports, but felt that I was just reading to get a grade and not fully understanding the concept behind it. I think there should be more feedback and overall summaries for each
This year has been a blast! There were so many things that just cried out me, and the projects were so much fun! I know I have grown as a writer by starting to have less and less edits on my paper. Making my blog helped me grow as a writer because it made me want to work harder. I wanted to work harder because I knew people would see my work. Sacred writing time has helped me grow as a writer because the time was helpful in the sense that I got some of my best ideas in just 5 minutes. Mrs. Lockwood has been a huge influence on my writing ability. Her instruction helped me grow by fixing my errors. I made many grammatical and punctual errors, that is, before I started no red ink. No red ink helped me to eliminate those errors. I usually don't
In conclusion, I did great in this class because I was conscious about what goal of this class. I was ready for this class since the day I registered for it, and I decided to read and follow what it mentioned in the syllabus, and to listen to my teacher. It was my responsibility to be up to date on my works and assignments even though I had another class this semester. As Jean De La Fontaine said: “slow and steady wins the race
This year in junior english has really helped me think about the future that I want to have. The American Dream project has got me to really think about what I want to do with my life after high school. The second thing that has help me prepare for the future is the Washburn visit and the research we had to with the visit. Finally the last moment in class that helped me for the future was Mrs. Switzky’s off topic talks.
The first year of high school was especially challenging since it was the first time I experienced an American high school. My English was not good at all and the system resulted confusing for me. Regardless the difficulties I did especial efforts to improve my English. My grades are proof of such effort since my academic performance improved from an average grade of b to an average of solid
My reflections towards second language acquisition has a sweet and sour experience. My very first experience was when I was doing some volunteering work in my children's elementary school in the school’s office doing easy tasks like making copies for the teachers and putting them in their boxes while my boys were in class there I meet this secretary a very nice lady who helped me a lot, she gave me a very thick Spanish/English dictionary to help my kids translating their homework, teaching them new vocabulary following their teachers advice, and guiding them to pick up English effectively from there I was taking academic English classes in an adult education program. Simultaneously, I was in a nursing assistant program in
For me, learning a language is a complicated process. It is different from learning other subjects. It involves a lot of practices and follow up. When I talk about my personal experience, I would say that I have a rich experience in learning English as a second language. English was taught to me for ten years starting from grade seven till graduation from university. After graduation, I felt that I should improve my language skills. Therefore, I did a lot of efforts personally to increase my fluency. Until now I still learn the language. Indeed, learning a language takes a lifetime.
