Over the summer I was trying to decide what senior project I wanted to do. One of my friends then suggested that we should volunteer at an assisted living center where we knew that that we could show up at any time to volunteer. I knew I wanted to volunteer for my senior project and saw this as an opportunity to learn how to take care of our older generation because my grandma moved in with my family a couple of years ago. When I decided to volunteer at Suncrest Assisted Living I asked the Manager Jennifer Daniels if I would be able to volunteer there. When she accepted my request I had my senior project. She then gave me a schedule of pre planned activities that I could take apart of with the residents. I then found time that I had of from
The equipment is also out of the price range for most college students. Students would be looking at spending around $3788 for the kind of lab equipment used at DeVry. By creating an inexpensive and portable oscilloscope, function generator, and power supply that fits in one box about the size of a brief case we've addressed the primary issues associated with this equipment.
Volunteering at the Laurel nursing home was an eye opener for me. I had done volunteer work before but the one that inspired me the most was for Laurel Nursing Home. As a group from AP Fatheree Vocational Tech Health Science class, we would go to the nursing home whenever they would allow us to come. At the nursing home, we would come up with games and activities to play with everyone such as: cards, bowling, family feud, and karoake. The best part about volunteering there was seeing the joy on their faces as we all walk in. Our presence meant more to them then we all would have expected especially for the ones who rarely got visitors. Being able to sit and listen to some of the stories they had to tell was a blessing. Although, I learned
I remember my company had various volunteering activities for employees to volunteer there assistance in areas such as, the Meals on Wheels program or, helping at the local children’s hospital. I decided to volunteer my time and assistance at the “Meals on Wheels” program. “Meals on Wheels Association of American’ mission is to support senior with
My proposal for my Senior Project is to transition and streamline the Evans City PTO digital infrastructure for the next PTO Board. My mother has been the PTO President at Evans City Elementary & Middle School for the past six years. When the school became paperless, the PTO needed to change what they were doing to adhere to the policy. As a result, I was asked by the Board to aid in the transition to digital. In doing this, I designed and created a multipage, comprehensive public website and digitalized all PTO documents and forms. I also investigated and came up with solutions for data management and transitioned it to a new email service. Also in this transition, I set up the PTO’s social media platforms; essentially I “modernized” the Evans City PTO. Over the years, I have always been a big help in managing the data,
I am a senior at my school and will soon leave for college. My parents have decided to expand their housing ownership to the college district that I will be going to and I will be the one responsible for their new property. As you can imagine I know next to nothing about owning and maintaining a house and, after looking some things up, I realized that I also know very little about how to go about things in the real world. I started this project for myself so I wouldn’t mess up something important for them, but quickly realized that it would make a great senior project. I already know the basics of how to take care of both myself and a house but I realize that I will need more detailed information when I graduate. The main area for my project is English as I will be producing a finished manuscript on the subject of living alone for the first time.
My project was to showcase my abilities in makeup and sfx makeup. I practiced individual cuts and bruises on myself first. My mother donated her face to be the bulk of my project, and I transformed one half into a zombie, and the other, made up traditionally. I used several reference photos and videos during the process. It took about 7 hours, including clean up time. I was fighting off the flu at the time, and it was important to frequently wash my hands. I hope to get a job as a cosmetic/fashion makeup artist, whether it be freelance, at a set location, or in the special effects field. I would love to be able to do makeup for movies and TV shows in the horror/fantasy genre. I am also interested in skincare, which
Throughout High School past students, teacher, and fellow scholars have told me to “Start thinking of a Senior Project Idea”, for me, at least I feel I’ve heard this remark since I was a Freshman. So I did, I thought and I thought, but it always seemed like I just kind of saw someone else's project and said to myself “ok, I’ll do that”, but I had come to recognize that I don’t want my project to be like somebody else, I want my project to be unique. When I started brainstorming my project I wanted to something with sports Baseball or Basketball, whichever one I could really think of a powerful meaningful idea. To be honest when I first started to brainstorm ideas I guess that I felt more that the idea was going to flow to me, but then I realized that I had to reach out and seek opportunities
One time, when I was in El Salvador, my aunt had to go to a meeting with her husband. My grandma and my aunt work at a store inside the house. My aunt wanted someone to help my grandma work the store. no one wanted to help her out, so I volunteered to help her out. So my aunt left me and my grandma in charge of the store, so I went to the back because that’s where the store is at and helped my grandma sell some home necessities. (because that’s what we sell in there we also sell chips and food and stuff). My grandmas job was to get the money and my job was to get the stuff the people wanted. Working with my grandma was so fun cause she makes the funniest jokes and she's really nice
From being active in my community I have learned that after giving, you receive the best feeling. My freshman year, my friends and I dressed up like Disney princesses and sang at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. I have gone back two more times because I am in love with cheering people up. Since this experience, I have made it a mission to always continue to participate in community service. From meals-on-wheels, to adopt-a-spot trash clean up I am always ready to help out the community.
I am excited to present my senior project this trimester. For my senior project, I decided to coach a cheerleading team for kids from eight to twelve years of age. I have been involved in cheerleading for six years and have a very strong passion for the sport. I also enjoy working with kids. In terms of personal development, I hoped to be involved with a project that would strengthen my leadership skills. Therefore, this coaching position acted as the perfect choice for my project.
Seniors in El Dorado County, California, will find that participating in recreational activities will help to rejuvenate and refresh their mind, body or both. Getting active will also aid in reducing their stress. Here are local senior-friendly activities that seniors will find enjoyable and beneficial:
I volunteered through the Social Sciences Club on campus to participate in Project Homeless Connect. My job during this event was to be a homeless advocate and walk the person I was assigned to through all of the booths set up for them. I was there to make sure the man I was assigned to went to each booth and listened to the information that was provided in order to help him find out what options he had. I enjoyed my time meeting this man and learning more about him as we went from booth to booth. I was able to hear some of his story and be there for him as he went through this setup. I was with him for the entirety of the event and spent time with him as he played bingo with the group and enjoyed his morning. I can't say that I made a huge
During my freshman year of high school, I wanted to do something more meaningful than the previous volunteering I had done in the past. Most of my volunteer work had been with children, and although those experiences were worthwhile, I wanted to do something to help those less fortunate. So, when my best friend mentioned that her mother was involved in a dietetic association food distribution, I volunteered immediately. I felt like it was important because the economy in our area had declined recently, leaving many without a job and food on the table.
The social contact aspect of helping and working with others can have a profound effect on your overall psychological well-being. While no monetary compensation is received, many will tell you that their work and experiences gained as a volunteer were worth way more than any money they could have earned from another work line. It builds self-confidence and lifts the spirits. You are doing well for others and the community, which provides a natural sense of accomplishment. Your role as a volunteer can also give you a sense of pride and identity. And the better you feel about yourself, the more likely you are to have a positive view of your life and future goals. Older adults, especially those who have retired or lost a spouse, can find new meaning and direction in their lives by helping others. Whatever your age or life situation, volunteering can help take your mind off your own worries, keep you mentally stimulated, and add more zest to your life. Moreover, Studies have found that those who volunteer have a lower mortality rate than those who do not. Older volunteers tend to walk more, find it easier to cope with everyday tasks, are less likely to develop high blood pressure, and have better thinking skills. Volunteering can also lessen symptoms of chronic pain and reduce the risk of heart disease; this is because during the volunteering hours, you mind is enriched inversely with the joy
From 2013 until 2015, I volunteered at Country Manor Nursing Home in Sartell. It was a wonderful experience that allowed me to meet a lot of people. I began volunteering because I had free time during the summer of 2013, and I continued to keep going because I enjoyed it so much.
