1. My writing experiences prior to this course have been mostly self-taught. Lacking much formal education the only writing I have been involved in over the years has been job related. I honestly cannot think of the last time I wrote any type of paper that was graded by a professional in the English field. I quit high school in 1994, obtained a GED, and finally decided to continue my education some 20 years later. I have enjoyed writing in the past but it was mostly in the form of lyrics, stories, blogs or daily journals. Writing, the way I have in the past, has been therapeutic for me. Whether or not academic writing provides me the same sense of therapy I have yet to figure out.
2. The rough draft of paper #1 I actually wrote about all the
This next Saturday April 22nd Las Vegas, and every major city in the US will be celebrating the 10th edition of Record Store Day, an initiative started on the U.S. and now turned into a worldwide event. As the means through which we consume our music have shifted over the past decade, record stores have slowly become victims of new media, like MP3 digital files and more recently, streaming services. Back in the year of 2007, independent record store owners and their employees met to discuss ways to save their industry, and they brainstormed this idea of Record Store Day, which was in part modeled after a similar event, which focused on celebrating and promoting comic book culture. This once a year event has proven to significantly increase the traffic and profits for independent record stores, an achievement made possible through the collaboration of artists and record labels, who prepare special limited releases, which often include vinyl reissues, live albums or box sets to be released on this
Writing is an important form of communication. It is a personal process that portrays your thoughts and views to someone else. It is not only an important skill to have for school work and certain professions, but daily messages such as emails, texts, and tweets as well. It can have a big impact on how you come across to certain people. Because of this, it is very important for me to practice writing. I believe that this course has improved my writing, which will help me in many ways in the future.
To effectively revise and edit my research paper, I read it carefully, as I played the reader`s role instead of that of a writer. In addition, I used a number of strategies to effectively revise and edit my research paper. First, I read my paper aloud as I listened for errors. After carefully listening, I was able to identify and correct errors in my writing, including grammar, incorrect sentence structure, incomplete ideas, and incorrect punctuation. While reading, I could stop and rectify the mistake at the point where I could note it. In addition, I read each sentence at a time so that I could digest the structure and identify any error. Prior to the reading, I noted down the common errors I usually commit while writing such as the omission
So far, taking this English course has impacted my writing skills in a good way. This class has helped me to acquire skills to become a better writer in college and for my future. In this class I have had the chance to make important revisions to my papers when needed. I learned how to use the writing process effectively so far by brainstorming ideas for my topic, making multiple drafts, getting in groups for peer editing, and revising my paper into a final draft. By following this writing process it makes me look deeper into my essay and explore all the ways I can make revisions until it’s perfect. By using that writing process it has changed my writing and the way I look at “writing papers” as a whole. Although, there are some challenges that I still face with my writing that I will have fixed by the end of this course.
Looking ahead into English 101, I want to learn more about the concepts of different writing’s,
As a recent Egyptian immigrant to the United States, writing is the most difficult subject. In 7th grade, my writing process started to develop with the help of an amazing teacher. Ever since 7th grade I have been practicing wiring to be close to the high school writing slandered. I reached my goal last year when my act writing score is 6 point which places me in English 101. I doubted myself so, I took the Accuplacer test which also, placed me in English 101. I was scared when I saw the results that I’m going to fail this course. After taking this course, it made me more confident in writing and showed me my writing level which needs more practice. This class helped me improve my writing skills, by getting great feedback from my instructor
Societies are built on a hierarchy. There is a leader, an upper class, a middle class, and a lower class. This representation of human society is built by our natural need for a leader no matter how tyrannical. George Orwell firmly exposes and attacks this flaw of human nature in his allegorical novel, Animal Farm. In Animal Farm Orwell displays situations mirroring that of the Russian Revolution, and how it failed to produce the utopia that was promised out of the revolution. George Orwell, before writing the novel, was disillusioned by the Communist revolution, a revolution that promised to provide all its people with a government that owned everything, but in turn was owned by the people. Orwell quickly concluded that all revolutions will fail, as the Russian Revolution did, because those who attain power are then corrupted by it. In this view of revolutionary efforts Orwell presents his views on human nature as a whole, that humans are unable to maintain an utopia, unable to abstain for consuming power, and that humans will subjugate and oppress one another if given the power to do so.
I appreciate the time you taught me in this class. I’m lucky to have you as a professor, who takes personal time to help with assignments. I have learned a lot from thesis statement and develop and organize my essay. My favorite topic is chapter 13 make a point and chapter 14 structure. My issue was not having my essay organized. The chapter 13 helped me be clearer on my point what I’m writing about. The chapter 14 helped me organized my writing. Relearning this was a refresher.
Throughout this year you have seen me develop as both a writer and as a person. This year for LA has definitely been a challenging one for me, as I learnt how to manage my time effectively, develop my writing and properly edit my writing pieces.
1. My writing has grown tremendously since my first essay of the semester. The first essay I struggled with organization and sentence structure. Considering my last essay, I have been able to organize information to make it much more pleasing to read. Likewise, in my second essay I had some trouble with the MLA format. However, in my last essay I managed to cite and source all information more favorably. Furthermore, in my third essay I had trouble with adding detail in my body paragraphs. In my last essay, I was able to demonstrate a full understanding of the assignment by providing great detail. Overall, throughout this course, I have been able to form my own unique style of writing
This past semester in English 205, I learned quite a few ways to improve my writing, such as how to write in certain styles (i.e. APA), along with even memorizing the proper ways to cite different sources for the reference page of my essays. Prior to taking this class, I had great difficultly formatting my essays for other classes in APA, mainly because the only format I learned was MLA in high school, yet all my professors last semester and this semester required their essays to be in APA. Thus, I am glad that I mastered the writing conventions of APA because I will no longer struggle with writing essays for my any classes with the fear that I will get points deducted from my total grade due to formatting. Another technique I am pleased to
Gaining the proper flow of words is what I have progressively worked on and improved throughout Comp One. I had to quickly adapt to the college writing process which at first seemed to be a challenging predicament. Soon, I realized how choppy and unproportional my writing was and have molded my skills to a more tolerable standpoint. I have chosen Three previously written papers with which I will reflect my ability to transition from sentence to sentence. The ability to write a completely smooth paper has unfortunately not been one of my various talents. Hopefully, after a whole semester of college english, I have improved.
Macbeth, a tragedy by William Shakespeare, highlights and explores the struggles to maintain and protect a natural moral order in the face of evil and chaos. There are many factors to highlight this struggle such as, the loss of better judgement when significant rewards are present, going against morality and the presence of overwhelming guilt that results in the loss of mental sanity. Amidst evil, the struggle to maintain and protect a moral and natural order becomes challenging and brings forth consequences when, one’s moral conscious is overlooked.
Our next stop is the peaceful and picturesque lake, EWP Outcome #2! The second outcome aims to showcase my ability "to read, analyze, and synthesize complex texts and incorporate multiple kinds of evidence purposefully in order to generate and support writing." I believe that my first and second major paper are able to demonstrate my ability integrate readings and resources, and to use to use as sources and evidence for my writing.
I am appreciate that you can read my e-mail in your rest. You teach us grammar, word choice and sentence structure last week. I learned and reviewed the writing methods, but I still worry about my word choice when I write the essays. Every time when I was writing an essay, I always only think of some simple words and I don’t know how to put the appropriate words in the sentences. I am hoping that I can make an appointment with you. Would you like to make an appointment with me this week please?
