In the beginning of this semester I didn't like writing at all. I had a lot of difficulty when it came to writing. That was my only weakness in high school. But as I started taking basic writing, I have made a lot of progress. Before I had trouble to put detail in my essays, but now I am confident. My attitude toward writing went from negative to positive during this semester. Some aspects of the class have helped me strengthen my writing, I have builded some strengths for myself as a writer, and I know I made a lot of progress by reading my most successful essay, and by comparing my early essays to my more recent ones.
Prewriting and Meeting with a writing center tutor have helped me strengthen my writing. The prewriting activities made
In elementary school, I learned to write sentences. As time went on I learned to put those sentences in a paragraph which was three to five sentences. When I finally entered high school I learned to put those paragraph together which made the essay. When I was in English composition one writing had so much more than just having five paragraph. The writing was a way of expressing your creativity, idea, values, and emotion. It is not focusing on making five paragraph you could do what made you happy as a writer. There are countless abilities that writing has. The most powerful thing writing can do is change the opinion of thousands. But what is exactly English 1100? It is about improving your writing, reading and thinking skills or improve them. There are seven learning outcomes students that can get from this class, for example, communicate effectively, demonstrate rhetorical knowledge, engage in critical thinking, writing and reading, develop effective composing processes, collaborate during the writing process in a social setting, use appropriate convention for format, documentation, and editing, Adapt composing process to electronic environment. By end of this course, all student should able to demonstrate those learning goals as stated in the packet.
While attending writing class, I learned about the 4 steps in writing, bases for revising, organizing, and connecting specific information, and I also learned about the different types of essays such as descriptive, narrative, process, cause and effect and argumentative essay. I have been a student at Milwaukee Area Technical College for 1 semester, and over the course of my enrollment I have grown and learned more that I knew prior to attending this writing course. Participating in this writing class has taught me so much more than stuff about literature and language, it has taught me another way of expressing myself. I have learned here how to write and express myself, how to think for myself, and how to find the answers to the things that I don 't know. Most importantly I have learned how important technique, outlines and organization are. My goal in this paper is to inform writers about how my writing skills have improved.
This semester I was surprised by how much I actually learned and developed my writing skills. I was given the opportunity to learn the many steps that it is required to become a good writer. Writing requires a lot of work. It consists of various steps; prewriting, drafting, rewriting, proofreading and publishing. . All of these components are extremely important, and necessary, and will need to be follow to improve student’s writing.
Throughout this year you have seen me develop as both a writer and as a person. This year for LA has definitely been a challenging one for me, as I learnt how to manage my time effectively, develop my writing and properly edit my writing pieces.
Reflection “critical” because “it allows writers to recognize what they are doing in that particular moment, as well as to consider why the made the rhetorical choices they did” (Taczak 78). In other words, reflecting on your writing is a highly recommended step because it allows you to self assess your writing and give yourself feedback to further improve.
This past semester in English 205, I learned quite a few ways to improve my writing, such as how to write in certain styles (i.e. APA), along with even memorizing the proper ways to cite different sources for the reference page of my essays. Prior to taking this class, I had great difficultly formatting my essays for other classes in APA, mainly because the only format I learned was MLA in high school, yet all my professors last semester and this semester required their essays to be in APA. Thus, I am glad that I mastered the writing conventions of APA because I will no longer struggle with writing essays for my any classes with the fear that I will get points deducted from my total grade due to formatting. Another technique I am pleased to
In the following pages, I will be expressing the key points and lessons learned during the past seven weeks which had the most significant impact on my writing abilities. By the same token, I will give a brief description of how I utilized those lessons in the essays I will add to my writing portfolio.
Ever since a youth, writing has always been a thing of enjoyment for me. Throughout my life, I have written many essays and learned something new each time I wrote. In turn, this has helped me to become more aware on how to become a better writer and learn from my mistakes. From examining my own writing to receiving constructive criticism from teachers and peers, I can say there are various characterizations which I could utilize to describe myself as a writer. By taking this course, I hope to be more confident in my writing, as well as be able to constitute my own writing in a more positive way.
I think one of the aspects in my writing that is effective is being able to interpret the meaning of something and elaborate on it through my writing. When writing the paper on a book in the Nutrition Field, I was able to take the information provided and analyze it. I was able to take the preface of what the author wrote and explain his reasoning for it through context clues and other research. For the authors dedication in my book it was only two words “To Betty”, although no one knows who Betty is I was able to determine that Betty had to be his significant other or partner after reading the acknowledgements which help me realize it was wife. I like writing about things that there is a lot more detail hidden because there is just so much to write about.
I honestly do not believe that there is anything that I would change with regards to how I created my paper. This is because I feel that throughout my paper, I truly put my all into my writing by using a certain passion in order to create a paper that truly reflected the ideas which I wanted to show within the paper regarding the topic. Likewise, I also feel that when it comes to the structure of the paper, it was quite well constructed and had a high degree of “readability” so to speak which resulted in an essay that was a pleasure to read. These conclusions are not based upon my own perspective, but rather from the feedback given by multiple people who I requested to critique my writing within the paper. However, this is not to say that there
Overall the personal narrative was very time consuming and thought provoking. As someone who prefers writing papers based on logic and facts, it was difficult for me to creatively talk about myself. The hardest part of this assignment was showing the reader what was going on instead of telling them. Telling a story about myself from my own perspective made it tough to explain how I felt in certain situations. Assuming the reader knew how I felt, I’m sure I left out many details that could of improved my story. I also struggled with characterization throughout the writing process. Making the people in my narrative come to life proved to be quite difficult. On the contrast, there was absolutely nothing that came easy when writing this paper. Every apect of my narrative took tons of thought and effort. While
What I learned while completing this project is that there is so many ways you can learn about different crafts. One, of the things that made me really look deeper into the words or phrases of a book was paying attention and re-reading the sentences of books, until i understood what the author was trying to describe weather igt was a time of day or a place. It was really interesting to see all the different ways authors have to incorporate crafts like the one I choose and the ones I got to see from my classmates when we presented our craft. It was very fascinating to find all this crafts that are possible, because now that I have the knowledge I am able to incorporate this into my own writing, and one day when I have a classroom of my own as
Our next stop is the peaceful and picturesque lake, EWP Outcome #2! The second outcome aims to showcase my ability "to read, analyze, and synthesize complex texts and incorporate multiple kinds of evidence purposefully in order to generate and support writing." I believe that my first and second major paper are able to demonstrate my ability integrate readings and resources, and to use to use as sources and evidence for my writing.
I have been reflecting on my writing skills since probably week 7, which was exploratory research. I found myself, since starting English 123 online at Embry-Riddle University to attempt to write better on a sticky note to even my family members. I have become more conscious of what I am writing, how I am writing it and who I am trying to write for. Quite frankly, I highly doubt I will ever write in my free time write or even voluntarily take another English class but I will reflect on a couple key modules that I will take with me through my post secondary education.
I have witnessed myself intellectually grow since September of junior year, 2016. Coming into junior year, it was challenging for me to center my thoughts and have a developed focus in my essays. Furthermore, it was challenging to get my voice to the reader and slightly hard to understand the difference between critical analysis, synthesis, and summary. Through the progression of this year, I have slightly improved my critical analysis and synthesis skills; I have learned to continually ask myself “why” and “how” whenever I made a claim and combining sources together to develop a coherent well-developed essay. Starting out with the “The Great Influenza” in class essay, I was able to practice critical thinking
