I feel that the biggest change to my writing this semester is in the way I organize myself for assignments. I was homeschooled and did all my assignments online. Making the change to a classroom environment was difficult for me due to my Asperger’s and learning about how to organize all aspects of my writing has been a challenge. I feel that I have improved as the semester progressed. I would like to discuss each aspect of the writing process and how my skills have improved by taking this class. I will be able to use the organizational process in my future career as a film maker and director.
At the beginning of the term, I came into this class not feeling very confident about my writing. I had taken writing classes in the past, but none to the extent of a college level writing course. One of the skills that I found I lacked the most was my vocabulary. While my writing structure was often not a problem my writing did not sound as sophisticated as it could be. I occasionally used a thesaurus but this would often cause problems as sometimes the words would not quite agree with the meaning of my sentence. Throughout the term the one thing that helped me the most with this problem were the workshops. As my peers corrected my paper they helped me to come up with more intelligent words to get my point across to the reader. I believe that without the inclusion of these workshops my essays would not have been as cleanly written.
At the beginning of this course, I was convinced that success would come relatively easy. I had imagined there being few assignments with the guidelines for papers and assignments being broad. I soon came to the realization that I would have my compositional skills pushed to the limit. Although I entered the course with a adequate level of competency in writing, I significantly had my knowledge and skills in academic writing expanded as showcased in the progression of my assignments. I have learned proper procedure for MLA formatting, as well as proper rhetorical analysis, as opposed to synopsis. My writing has become more refined as well as focused. I am better able to concentrate on proper analysis, so while this is my biggest area of improvement,
Well, my first semester in college is coming to an end and I have learned many things about myself, my learning and most specifically my writing. My writing 101 class was a bit of a culture shock for me. I was surprised by the amount of freedom we had in that class and how much I didn’t actually know about writing. Our class’s instructions were to keep a blog of what we were feeling or thinking while writing each essay over the course of the semester. With each essay and blog post, I learned more and more about my writing style and what I liked to write about.
At the end of this course, I feel that a lot has improved with my writing. When I first started this course, I was struggling with a lot of writing mechanisms. One of the things was transition. I was just writing without thinking of how to connect my thoughts. After completing numerous writing assignments, I am fully confident with my ability to have a paper that flows. Another thing that I struggled with was organization. Although I still have a lot of improvement to make, I think this aspect of my writing has improved. One of the things that helped me immensely was creating an outline before writing my paper. Another aspect of my writing that also improved has to do with run-on sentences. I see a lot of changes in my writing and writing run-on
In English class this year, I have experienced new, interesting and useful skills and numerous other things. English 101 was a good class to take first quarter of this year because I gained more skills in writing for other classes that I will be taking. I improved my writing skills as well as my ability to annotate lengthy and challenging pieces of text. This English class helped me gained a better understanding of how I was able to improve skills on citing sources. During this class I got to learn about the types of writing, the writing process, the structures of an argument, audience, Literacy Narratives, Memoirs, and rhetorical situation. I truly appreciate the growth that I have gone through in this class.
My writing skills which I have worked on over the few months I have been in English 102 have changed quite a bit in my opinion. There are many things which I have improved upon that were amongst my weaker writing skills when the year began. On the opposite side of that point, there are also many things which I still need to improve upon if I want to truly elevate my writing to a level that I will be confident in. Finally, I have gained new skills outside of writing from this class, particularly the activities which we did in class at various points throughout the year. These things all cumulate together to give me an appreciation of English courses which I did not previously have.
As I have not paid attention to media lately, I am going to focus on my writing process.
Reflect: When I started this course, I did not think that I was going to be able to complete it. Writing papers is not a strong suit for myself. But this course was about teaching someone to use what inside themselves to create works of art. Drawing from emotions and imagination and translating that into a written canvas. Most people would not have a problem with knowing one’s self. For me, it is a different situation, but I overcame this. My skills for writing has greatly improved. I am still a person who skips steps, outlines for example and goes right to writing. This is something I cannot change although my Instructors would prefer. I think my impatience is a cause for that. This class has differently
This class has been a big eye opener for me and I will be taking a lot of this information with me as I continue to complete other courses. What I have learned the most would be dealing with time-management and how to improve my essays by improving my writing skills. It is important to me to continue to improve on my writing as will help me become a better writer in the future.
I have been a student at San Jose States University for second years, English 1A was my first regular English class, and over the course of my stay I have grown and learned a lot. As Hospitality major, I do not know whether need my writing skills for future job, but I know the great experience in English 1A class would help me to improve all my writing weakness.
Although this is only my second module, it has already yielded a plethora of knowledge that has enhanced my skill set. As a result, I have a better understanding of essay structure, how to better utilize resources, and how to implement time management strategies. By having these tools in my arsenal, I am confident moving forward in my future classes.
Thanks for being my first writing instructor when I enrolled into college. Yes, there were bumps here and there for me but after your encouragment and advices on how to revise my writing, I can tell that I have improved from day one. Now I will continue to improve my writing and use what I learned in this course to better improve in my next course. Once again, Thank You Mr.
In this class, we do peer reviews for our paper and this not only helps me as reviewer but it was helps me connect with the thoughts of my reviewee based on my paper. In class, we go through activates which helps me to understand what’s going on in class and how to write my paper. She asks questions to help us understand what we are writing about. Having the understanding gives me the ideas on how to start my paper but my struggle is that once I have an idea in mind I forget my ideas when placing it on paper. I might get the lecture where I’m told that I should write my idea immediately after I think of it which is what I try doing but by the time I switch on my laptop or get a piece of paper I forget everything.
This course made me analyze some aspects in my life that either I forgot or never though about it. I discovered that I can interact with many unknown individuals without been afraid of been judge by my acts. With all the writing done in this class I feel more confident that I can write about any subject.
