During this week’s lesson I realized why people are so proud to be Americans. The thing that stood out to me the most in this lesson was the support that the nation had for the military during WWII. I feel like our nation is very different now. In general I don’t think our nation supports our war with the Middle East and as a result military members don’t have the same support as they didn’t in WWII. As a military member I never expect anyone to say thank you, its actually very uncomfortable when they do, but this week’s lesson was just a realization of the differences between the times and the wars. The general public in WWII seemed very educated on the war and was very involved with the current events; this helped united everyone as a
The Speech “Duty, Honor, Country” was delivered by General Douglas MacArthur to the Cadets of the Military Academy in West Point, New York. General Douglas MacArthur was being awarded with the Sylvanus Thayer Award to commend the General for all his hard work and devotion to the Military. The Award is a memorable tribute to the ideals that inspired the late General Sylvanus Thayer, who was also known as “the Father of West Point”. In General Douglas MacArthur’s “Duty, Honor, Country” speech, he used rhetorical appeals, diction, and repetition to convey his thoughts about the Military and its present leaders along with its future leaders.
Being an American is having freedom and respecting our country. American isn't always awesome place. People make bad decisions and do stupid things, but American is beautiful place. First thing to do to respect are country is to say” The Pledge of Allegiance” in school. Second things is if you are at a game standing up and put your hand on our heart for The Star Stander Bender and third appreciate our troops that fight are country or who fought and lost there lives for us. It’s not that hard, but rude people don’t like to support American.
Over the course of the first century and a quarter of the history of the United States of America, what it means to be an American has been defined by a number of different documents. The authors of those documents have come from varied backgrounds all searching to find their place in the growth and development of this country. At the beginning of the nation, those authors came from the English tradition of what government should look like and what those who were looking to change that government should do. When the country experienced some early growing pains, many of those same people came together again to try and develop a new system of laws for the country. As the nation grew up, it also grew apart and faced arguably the most
What it means to be an American, to me it means to fight for this great country that our God created, the same god who made everyone of us. I also feel it's my duty if our country goes into a major war, then I feel I should go and fight for what's right. Therefore I also feel that everyone was made equal and we are the same we are people and Americans so why can't we all matter. To me no one is more popular or bigger than anyone we are all Americans and people, the people who think they are bigger and more popular than anyone else they like to think they are, but they really aren't. Like Hillary clinton she likes to think she is all good and she is all innocent of what the things we Americans said she did,
When wearing an American flag on my backpack I felt like we were all united and we're proud to be part of America, but this took time because in the beginning everyone was ashamed to be wearing the flag and no one was really proud of being American, but everything changed. For example, before Hitler came into power, Germans were ashamed of being German because they lots the war and the Treaty of Versailles took away most of the money, reduced their army, and took away power so they felt ashamed, but once Hitler came into power all that changed. Germans started to be proud of their country once again. I honestly did care that everything I did was for the improvement of the state because I benefited from it too. When we got to work with others
"What does it mean to be an American" means more to me than just a catchy phrase on a bumper sticker. From my point of view the right to Freedom and Liberty is the defining quality of American. This gives individual Americans to voice their diverse opinions in our nation.
With all the controversy in what it means to be American at this point in history, coming to a consensus on the meaning of the term is crucial. The meaning of being an American can often be tied to one’s emotional connection to the United States of America. If this attachment is taken away from the definition of the word, the most authentic and traditional interpretation of what it means to be an American is revealed. To be an American means to be a citizen of the United States and to align yourself with the ideals of America.
There are many aspects to what it means to be an American. Freedom and equality are two things that defines you as an American. Also, depending on the area you live can have an impact on if you are considered an American. There are many things that surprised me throughout the essays in the book. What surprised me the most was the fact that we all had immigrants in our family that came to the United States from another country, so they were at one time immigrants. Also, I never really thought how America is a lot of different people coming together with all different religions.
According to the Scholastic News Online, when individuals were given the question of what it means to be an American, most of them described it as “being free” and having certain rights while others gave explicit examples and mentioned the fact that we as Americans receive opportunities such as “voting”. I somewhat agree with most of these individuals. I believe that being an American consists of having certain rights and a given amount of freedom, to a certain extent. I also strongly believe that by being American, we are guaranteed opportunity if we work hard for something. Being an American also means we have the power to make a difference and express what we feel in order to make this country better than before. Coming from a family that had a much more distinct experience than
By birth, all humans are given the basic right to an identity. It tells people who we are, and sometimes, tell the owner who they are. However, some countries even take this necessity away. In the United States of America, despite all of its flaws, gives her citizens these basic rights. Some of these rights are the freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom to petition the government, right to bear arms, and civil trial by jury. Many countries, unfortunately, do not even give their residents these rights.
How does our generation define what it means to be “American”? Being in America gives us the freedom to become who we want to be and, to do what we want to do. We are using technology to get places or to make a point. We want to support things we don’t know anything about. For example, Black Lives Matter. I’m not saying I know everything about it but I know enough. So one day as I was scrolling through Facebook I came across a post. The post was about a 9/11 “Never Forget” picture. A teen one or two older than me had said something along the lines of “When is our never forget day?” along with the hashtag “#Blacklivesmatter”. I got pretty upset by that. Not to mention it was said on 9/11. I was thinking about how they have a whole month to
The public’s negligence toward the rapid emergence of “Fake News” in the last few years, and society’s increased access to such outlets not only causes a decline in the credibility of beliefs and stances on the most sensitive current event topics, but it also crudely transforms and moulds the critical ideas, views, and workings of Democracy.
After projects are designated, they are officially sanctioned utilizing a record described as a project charter. Should the company decide to outsource the work to an external resource to complete the undertaking, it will prepare a record entitled a request for proposal (RFP); subsequently, interested outworkers present their proposals for the consumer, who afterwards chooses which free-lancer to hire to complete the project and signs a contract with the designated contractor. Every item in the universal is made up by atoms which are tiny particles. The atoms are made up by electrons and nucleus. Some kinds of atoms are stable, however, some kinds of atoms are not stable. The unstable atoms may undergo spontaneous radioactive decay. The proton and nuclear in the nucleus may be reallocated or recombinant. The nuclear energy is the energy which is released when the proton or the neutron in the nucleus be reallocated and recombinant. There are two kinds of nuclear energy. One of this is called fusion energy, and the other one is called fission energy. Nowadays, many nuclear power plant use nuclear fission materials like uranium-235 as a fuel to generate electricity. In the worldwide, there were 434 operating commercial nuclear reactors at the end of 2013. Those operating commercial nuclear reactors total installed capacity of 392GW. In OECD countries, there are 18% overall share of electricity are produced by nuclear power plant in 2013. The
In my thoughts United States is a unique country. Because, it built by the immigrants who came here for better opportunity, beautiful life and great dreams. United States reminds me small world because lot of people from each part of the world live here. That makes United States different and interesting country in my mind. Culture is something which explains people’s life style, interest, history and values. So, every emigrant brought some new perspective in the United State. We are able to find some cultural piece from every part of the world. Because of, the dreams every person brought some perspective which makes them hard working and seeking for new opportunities. So, United State is the representative of diversity, new built culture, individualism and direct also outspoken place where your dream could be true.
