Reflection On Renee Perry's First Grade Class

I had the chance to observe Renee Perry’s first grade class at Lucile Sounders. She has nine years of teaching experience in education, from grades kindergarten through first. She also taught at an elementary school before moving to Fayetteville North Carolina. She shared with me the importance of having a supportive team while teaching. When I say supportive team I mean other teacher who teaches the same grade as you do. Having a supportive team allows you to be able to vent and ask for advice on how to deal with certain situations. It also allows you to share various lesson plans ideas on different subjects.

The first section count how many words the student can read accurately in a minute. If the child does not pronounce the word right then the teacher has to mark the word on the device they are using to test the child. On the reading comprehension section the students have to tell the teacher what the story was about from what they can remember reading. On the writing section the teacher give the students a question about something that happened in the book. The students have to find the answer in the book and write what the book say word for word.
On day one of my observation I went towards the end of the day after they came back from lunch and the teacher was going over living and nonliving things with the class. Afterwards she made the students fold a blank piece of white printing paper in half and draw a living and nonliving thing one each side of the paper. At the end of the assignment the students had to share what their living and nonliving pictures with the class.
