Self-reflection essay
This essay has been written in order to provide self-reflections on the business management module and internship experience by incorporating Gibbs reflective cycle. Moreover, this essay also highlighted improvement in skills by getting enrolled in this module.
With the intention to make the process of learning updated it is better to rely on the framework proposed by Gibbs (1998) which has mentioned below: Figure 1: Gibb 's Reflective Cycle (Gibbs, 1988)
Referring to the model of Gibbs reflective cycle, the essay first described the good or bad experiences from the event occurred to me. Secondly, it discussed the solution required to overcome the bad experience and finally, the action plan highlighting the fruitful benefits that I have achieved.
First Phase: Description, Feelings and Evaluation:
Last year when I was enrolled in previous semester I have received a call from a reputable organization to work as an intern for a period of two months. The internship was placed in marketing department and I was very happy because I felt that this internship would be very fruitful in terms of work experience and exploring new things in the dimension of marketing. However, unfortunately, I couldn’t secure good marks and perform better at the organization due to lack of communication and interpersonal skills and this was the worst experience that I encountered. Lack of communication skills made me unable to
Reflecting on the situation that had taken place during my second placement working in the community. This will give me the perfect opportunity to develop and utilise my commutation skills in order to maintain the relationships with my patient. In this reflection, I am going to use Gibbs (1988) Reflective Cycle. This model is a recognised framework for my reflection. Gibbs (1988). Baird and Winter (2005,) give some reasons why reflection is require in the reflective practice. They state that a reflect is to generate the practice knowledge, assist an ability to adapt new situations, develop self-esteem and satisfaction as well as to value, develop and professionalizing practice. However, Siviter (2004)
In this essay, I need to reflect on the situation that taken place during my clinical assignment to develop and utilize my experiences on the assessment and intervention of asthmatic patient in my work place. In this reflection, I am going to use Gibbs (1988) Reflective Cycle. This model is a recognised framework for my reflection. Gibbs (1988) consists of six stages to complete one cycle which is able to improve my healthcare practices continuously and learning from the experience for better practice in the future. The cycle starts with a description of the situation, next is the analysis of the
Gibbs Reflective Cycle (1988), a framework for students to resolve problems in assignments, step by step, I will reflect on my own problems, (UK Essays, 2013). My previous goal was to study in a university and now that I have accomplished that goal, my next goal is to complete the course with a strong grade. But the reality of achieving the Foundation Degree is a much harder concept than what I first thought, having
There are various models of reflective practice. The first model of reflection is demonstrated by Gibbs (1988) whose model focuses purely on the reflection after a specific experience the individual goes through. Gibbs reflective model consists of six stages.
In choosing Gibbs reflective model it would be illustrated in the six headings which guide me through my reflective process. These headings include:
I will structure this essay using Gibbs Model of Reflection (Gibbs 1988). Reflective learning helps practitioners analyse their experiences and how they think and feel about them before
I have decided to use the Gibbs (1998) Reflective cycle for this essay, this framework guides you through a cycle of questions in order to provide guidance and structure when reflecting on an event or situation. The Gibbs cycle
The model of reflection chosen for this essay is Gibbs’ reflective cycle (1988). This model has been chosen as it has clear systematic headings; it allows the individual to reflect precisely and accurately, (Jasper, 2003). The Gibbs’ reflective cycle incorporates 6 stages of refection (figure 2), (Rolfe et al, 2011).
The assignment critically discusses a reflective practice with regards to a clinical placement I undertook. In the following critical incident that I encountered I will utilize the Gibbs Reflective Model. Gibbs reflective model is fairly straightforward and encourage a clear description of the situation. Analysis of feelings, evaluation of the experience, analysis to make sense of the experience, conclusion and action plan where other options are considered and reflection upon experience to examine what you would do if the situation arose again (Gibbs 1998). Unlike many other models (with the exception of Boud) Gibbs model takes in to account the realm of feelings and emotions, which played a part in a particular event. My rationale for
Effective reflection helps the practitioner to see the situation from an outsider's perspective, so that they can develop a better way to respond to a similar scenario in the future. Reflection is meant to achieve a change in practice, rather than simply repeating the same mistakes (Schon, 1983). Many different models exist for structuring the reflective process. Regardless of the framework used, the reflection models are meant to accomplish three things. They are supposed to promote reflecting on events, self-evaluation and analysis, and a plan to change actions in the future. This Reflective essay will utilize Driscoll's 'The What?' model as its structure (Driscoll, 1994). This model has three components"
This reflection was done using the Gibbs reflective cycle. It has six steps including Description, feelings, evaluation, analysis, conclusion and finally the action plan. The description section is an introduction to the contents of the reflection, ensuring the reader gets a foundational understanding of the materials. In the Feelings section, I can discuss how I felt about an incident/activity that occurred. The evaluation section allows me to assess the positives/negatives of the way I handled the situation. Then the analysis section is for me to consider steps I could take starting from now that allow me to improve. The conclusion section is for me to bring all the elements of the reflection together. Finally, the Action Plan section is there for me to decide what I would like to do in the future.
In this assignment I am going to reflect on a clinical situation that has taken place during my placement. I will be using the Gibbs’ reflective cycle which will include the skills of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care and link it to the registered nurse standards for practice – standard 4 , comprehensively conducts and assessments (nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia [NMBA], 2016). The Gibbs’ reflective cycle consists of 6 stages which starts with a description of the situation and what I observed, the second stage is to describe what were my feelings and thoughts were at the time, third stage is an evaluation to explain what worked well and what was good, fourth is an analysis to link the incident to what we have been learning , fifth stage is the conclusion to talk about what else could have been done and the final stage is an action plan to set out next steps for if it was to happen again (Gibbs' Reflective Cycle, 2014).
For the purpose of this essay, I have selected Gibbs (1988) Reflective Learning Cycle to reflect on an aspect of individual professional practice, which requires development in preparation for my role as a Registered Nurse. Gibbs (1988) Model of Reflection provides a clear description of a situation, analysis of feelings, evaluation of the experience, conclusion, and action plan to make sense of the experience to examine what you would do if the situation happens again.
In order to help me with my reflection I have chosen Gibbs (1988), as the model to help with my reflective process. This model comprises of a process that helps the individual look at a situation and think about their thoughts and feelings.
The following report contains descriptions, critics and evaluations from selected experiences which I had from carrying out and completing the assignment for the Marketing management module. “Reflection is an important human activity in which people recapture their experience, think about it, mull over & evaluate it. It is this working with experience that is important in learning” (D. Boud, R. Keogh and D. Walker, 1985). There a many ways elaborated in the literature about how one should reflect, one simply being a diary/journal while others involve a more procedural approach.(Moon, J. , 2004). Using what I have observed in the literature, I will hopefully arrive at a clearer set of conclusions as to my experiences. This will be done by adopting a reflective style similar to that of the Atkins and Murphy Model of reflection.
