Many high school students do not have volunteering program. There are many ways to participate in our community. Schools should require students to participate in volunteer program in their programs in their communities as a requirement for graduation because, it will make students get ready to college, it gives life and work experience for future, and it also strength our community.
As the subject of my Community project, I have chosen my classroom volunteer work from Foundations 2100 because though it was not an opportunity I specifically chose to go out of my way to go to, it provides me with an insight as to how there might be different cultures in the different communities I experience in different aspects of my life and by practice, it helps me to apply what I have learned in this class so far into such situations. For the past three Thursdays, I have volunteered in an English Language Learners Biology Assistance Classroom at Highline High School for my classroom volunteer work and have thus spent six hours so far assisting in as well as observing. The particular
At my high school students are also required to complete community service hours in order to graduate however, I have always done community service for numerous years now. This summer will be my sixth year volunteering as a counselor at a local vacation bible school camp. When I was younger, my sisters and I all went through the camp and we have truly enjoyed giving back and helping out in whichever way we can. Through serving specifically this camp, but also through volunteering for other groups with children, I have discovered my passion for aiding children. Along with vacation bible school I have also been a homework helper at a local Elementary school, and I have been a camp counselor at high school soccer and basketball camps for young
Based on my current ongoing experience, I believe the factors that make up a quality volunteer experience resolves around communication and interaction as it opens doors for individuals to share common ideas and thoughts from different perspectives allowing volunteering to serve as a social medium. Furthermore, being able to understand the true meaning behind why an organization is driven to give back to the community allows volunteers to see what is expected and how they can give back to their community in a positive manner. I have been able to create such an experience for myself while working as a Volunteer Teaching Assistant by being able to build communication and social skills, allowing me to learn how I can assist students understand certain concepts discussed within the class and how they can become successful and obtain so much from a particular class that is going to play a beneficiary role for them in their future career paths. The duties and responsibilities I have completed consist of teaching laboratory material via lectures and lab experiments, grading a number of different assignments, and organization of paperwork as
I spent my middle school years and early high school years helping out in Mrs. DiIanni’s 3rd grade classroom at Lee Elementary in Middleville. While helping Mrs. DiIanni with little things like filling and grading papers, I also helped the kids with problems they were working on. I had a lot of fun helping them with educational art projects and learn to write in cursive. I had also helped organize some of their holiday parties, and well as joined them in the festivities. I had done so many things with these kids and I hopeI at least impacted one of their lives.
I volunteered at Chiefland Elementary School, under Ms. Sidorenko’s supervision. After doing my twenty hours of volunteering at Chiefland Elementary School, I have gained new knowledge on how religion works in schools. If you grew up in a small town area like I did, you would know that religion around here is not a touchy subject with many people. Many faculty administrators who work in the school system happen to be Baptists or Christians. Therefore, people are able to throw in religious assessments here and there without getting into too much trouble. In this case, at this school, everyone goes to the same church or partners with each other’s churches. Before I go on, let me just say, even though I am a Christian, I think that religion shouldn’t be a topic talked during school hours. My reasoning for this is because children are there to get an education and to learn about the world around them. Teachers barely have enough time to teach the concepts that are mandatory, if we add religion it will just offend students and teachers won’t be able to get their job done. Now that society is changing and is starting to accept individuals more, I have noticed this school is having a hard time accepting that.
Throughout high school, I volunteered at a reputable childrens therapy facility called Equi-kids. Equi-kids is a nonprofit organization that teaches disabled children how to interact with animals and build core strength on horseback. I have volunteered as a horse-walker and side-walker for thousands of lessons and watched each student gain remarkable confidence. Even some of the most severely disabled riders have found comfort alongside the helpful staff and loving animals at the farm.
My volunteer background at Oakdale Elementary School and Backus Hospital has provided me with many skills and the understanding of dealing with different personalities. As a volunteer at Oakdale Elementary School I was responsible for managing and assisting the teacher with a third grade class. During my experience at Oakdale Elementary school, I learned
My experience working at Cutler Bay Middle School through a nonprofit AmeriCorps program called City Year, makes me a good fit for this position. During my year of service, I help run tutoring in the morning, I did behavioral mentoring to a set of 8 students during lunch and ran an after school club. In the classroom, I did specialized interventions for sixth, seventh and eighth grade students in ESOL classes. I also helped run two successful events at Cutler Bay Middle school one was a literacy and math event and the other was a talent show. Please see the attached document for a copy of my resume and I look forward to speaking with you regarding my
Our group, which consisted of Ricardo Carrillo, Emilee Cocuzzo, Sidd Dogra, Wurood Mandawi, and Trung Ngo, worked collectively on putting on a successful bingo and bake sale night for the YMCA. We ended up raising $ to help with the teenagers of the YMCA to go on their annual college trip during the summer.
The past two summers I was fortunate enough to go on two mission trips with my church. Our group teamed together with other churches and we worked with the Carolina Missions Team or known as “CMT”. This past summer was defiantly an eye-opening experience for me being able to work with an underprivileged community. One of the things I learned and realized during this trip is that even though these people have very little of anything, they are still so willing to give other people they don’t know so much love and compassion. Having this opportunity to volunteer has made me more aware of the needs, not just for the people in our own country, but also those in other countries who have much worse circumstances. The experience has led me to want to reach out to those other countries. Hopefully one day being able to travel and give them the help, knowledge, information and hope they need to prosper.
I am volunteering at Pine Meadow Elementary School. I volunteer from 8:30 – 9:50 in the morning every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. I am in Ms. Wurzbergers room and she teaches kindergarten class that consists of children ages 5-6. There are 20 children in the classroom with one teacher. One of the kids has a special teacher he walks around with all the time but they are not usually in the classroom. The classroom is set up with 4 tables spread around the room with 5 chairs at each table. There is a separate table away from the student’s tables where you can do one on one work with the kids. The room has one window, a sink near the door and posters hung up around the room. The posters have thing like the alphabet and numbers on
My name is Wendy Thrane and I would like to take this opportunity to express my interest in becoming a substitute teacher within the Lawndale Elementary School District. I graduated with honors from the California State University of Dominguez Hills, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies with an English Literature emphasis. Once I received my BA degree, I continued to attend California State University, Dominguez Hills and obtained my teaching credential.
Within the past two years, I have been involved in numerous amounts of volunteer work and extracurricular activities. I sought out to join Key Club, Future Farmers of America, and Furry Friends because they all shared the same intention of bettering my community. In FFA, I fought to become the secretary because I wanted to utilize my high position to take steps towards improving my community and organize events in which we would volunteer. With my help, we hosted a dinner where we provided food for the homeless, fed our local firefighters, and participated in wrapping stations where all proceeds went to charity. Key Club acted as another outlet to better my community. I partook in events such as creating Easter baskets for underprivileged children,
I am always the first to volunteer, whether it be to take something down to the office, picking someone up from work who can’t find a ride, or to introduce myself to the new kid in school and help them feel comfortable in an unknown territory. Helping others has always been a passion of mine; you can meet so many new people, and experience a lot of things you wouldn’t normally be able to! I would be able to contribute my friendliness and passion for volunteering to Michigan State University and make everyone feel welcome.
