My first reaction to this film is to be a bit shocked. I was always taught that social media can be bad for many different reasons but this brought it all to a whole new light. we are essentially not just selling products for companies, but are also selling ourselves in the process. I like the way the film was made. At the beginning it showed the positive side of this whole argument. Even now that I’ve watched the whole thing and associate much more strongly with the negative side of social idea, I can see why another person would disagree with me. We learn about the gains social media can bring a person, like money and products, but more importantly the increasing self-value the person will have. Sadly, this self-value can be artificial and easily lost.
Traditionally, when a company would want to sell its products they would hire an advertising company that would Market the product for them. There would be billboards, flyers advertisements on TV and radio, and so on. This way, by using different means to expose the customer to the product, customers are more likely to go out and buy the product. When the consumer is the one showing the product off, the marketer is getting more places for their product to be shown. For example, let's say Bob drink Sprite today because he was exposed to the marketing strategies of sprite drink them. Then we have a consumer becoming the marketer. Bob post a picture of himself with Sprite and recommends to his followers or his friends who go
This paper helps determine the effectiveness of the current social media for four different car brands. This paper looks at the various social media accounts of the Honda Civic, Ford Focus, Hyundai Elantra, and the Nissan Altima. The different forms of social media that will be analyzed in this paper are Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Snapchat, and Youtube. This paper takes the time to analyze the various posts these companies use to try and advertise their vehicles. Then using what was analyzed from the data collection period, recommendations were made on how to make better use of these social media accounts.

In today’s day and age, social media is popular more than ever. Now, just by clicking the “tweet” button, you can expose yourself and what you put out there for anyone throughout the whole world to see. Twitter, Instagram, etc have taken over the world, with millions and millions of users that range from super young to super old. Personally, I have three different platforms of social media. These include twitter, instagram and snapchat. I am interested to evaluate how I use it versus how I consider myself to be in real life and on a day to day basis. I believe the way that I represent myself on social media has some similarities and differences between my actual self on a day to day basis.
Since this project began, I have focused on maintaining strong personal and strategic relationships. I am preparing for the large American Society of Health-System Pharmacists - (ASHP) mid-year meeting. This is the largest annual meeting for pharmacy students to network and learn about residency positions across the country. To prepare for this meeting I have updated my social media sites, I have revamped my curriculum vitae and resume, as well as reach out to mentors and preceptors for letters of recommendations. In addition to maintaining my current network, I am also anticipating making several new connections next month at the mid-year meeting.
Social media has created and encouraged sociocultural standards of feminine beauty by portraying women in what social media calls the “ideal body type.” The concepts of an ideal body type are unrealistic and unattainable. Most models and actresses that are portrayed in magazines, and on television look to be below a healthy weight. Social media creates a mindset that says, a person can never be “too thin.” This just makes it difficult for any women to feel satisfied with their body. Most of the public who buy magazines and see a fashion show on T.V, are not aware of what the mass media is actually doing. They don’t realize the major negative effects of constantly seeing photoshopped actresses and size 0 models, and labeling these type of women beautiful, while shaming other women who don't fit the mass media’s qualification for “beauty”. The public is not paying enough attention to this problem, which is why it is Be-YOU-tiful’s goal to bring awareness to the public on why having an ideal body type is bad and hurting females
I believe social media is good for our society.Social media can do other things instea of snapchat, twitter, ect.Social media is known to be usefuhl and synthetic at times.
Visualize this: It is almost time to eat dinner, and the teenagers have not bothered to do their homework because they have been preoccupied with social media all afternoon. They are spending a majority of their time taking pictures and posting them for ‘likes’ to fit in with everyone else, or they are stalking other people’s posts and pictures, wondering why their lives are not as thrilling as the others’ lives appear. Worst of all, kids of all ages are committing suicide after being cyberbullied to the point that they cannot take it anymore. Picturing it now? Regrettably, that describes the scenery of how their generation is now – the effects of social media on young people are horrifying.
In the article “Internet and Social Media,” Tom Price described how social media influenced the economy and the legal concerns in the U.S. He emphasized the importance of intelligence products and privacy protection in the cyber age.
At this very moment, there are thousands of people worldwide who are retweeting posts on Twitter, liking pictures on Instagram or posting a status on Facebook. Twitter, Instagram and Facebook are few of the many social media platforms that have become prevalent in our society. Because social media applications and websites allow users with easy access to communication with others around the world, individuals all across the globe are able to socially interact on a daily basis. Erving Goffman, Charles Horton Cooley and George Herbert Mead, three of many sociologists who viewed society through the interactionist perspective, would use these daily interactions to make generalizations about society as a whole. The paradigm of symbolic interactionism reaches conclusion about different groups in society, generally by observing everyday social interactions. Accordingly, interactionists would view social media as an aspect of society that consists of constant social interactions that continuously influences and affects individuals and the whole of society.
Social media has become prominent parts of life for many young people today. Most people engage with social media without stopping to think what the effects are on our lives, whether positive or negative. Are we as a society becoming more concerned with Facebook "friends" than we are with the people we interact with face-to-face in our daily lives? What will the longterm effects of today 's social media use be? There are many positive aspects, but there are equally as many dangers that come with the use of sites such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Google +, Tumblr, Instagram, gaming sites, and blogs. Social media has both negative and positive effects on society, it is up to the user to decide what impact they want to make. In order to make the right choices, we must dig in and research this topic thoroughly.
Most people do have some type of social media account. Between Facebook, Twitter and Youtube there are many issues with these websites. With most people it’s just a simple way of connecting with other people, but for some people there are issues with addiction, copyright, privacy, you could offend people, legalized stalking.
For my civic engagement project I decided to connect it to a separate project I am currently doing for my media class. For this project I paired up with the non profit organization, Media Done Responsibly. The organization works with college level students to become mentors for younger children. The goal of the organization is to spread awareness and educate the younger generation about destructive messages the media influences and how to overcome them. These negative messages include the exploitation of women, violence, drugs and mental health.
A recent social trend of children and adolescents developing materialistic behaviors have been increasing at a shocking rate. Parents are beginning to question the effects of social network and media on their children. To answer these parents’ concerns, a research study will be conducted in order to figure out what effects social media is actually having on their children.
The project aim at teenagers, therefore sample group is between 13 to 19. I will set the sample sizes in 50 participants since it is easy to identity and more precision. If a sample sizes increase, it is very hard to estimate and become not accurate. Also, I’m worry about the extremes data can’t make a balance out, so the project prefers small sample sizes. It can take less effort to gain and maintain people, it is easy to produce significant results and comfortable to find a group of people. I will obtain samples from friends or friends’ sister and brother.
