During the summer of 2017 I worked on two different internships or projects. Both of the internships were completely different from the other. in one I work at a computer all day and the other I would spend out in the field working hands on with different equipment. I got to experience both ends of the spectrum of natural resource science. Both internships were helpful in helping me figure out which fields of natural resources that I was interested in, and which I might be interested in pursuing for future study and possible future job fields.
The first internship that I worked on was a grant that was contracted to the Central Lakes College, and more specifically to Kent Montgomery, by the S.W.C.D. (the Soil Water Conservation District). In this project / grant I worked with Kevin Gohman and we were asked to go to a set list of lakes in Crow Wing County, and one river in Aitkin county, to take samples of the water and to record data from the lake including: Phosphorus levels, conductivity, temperature, and the amount of dissolved oxygen in the water. We were also asked to record the clarity of the lake using a secchi disk, as well as record the appearance of the water judged by the unaided eye and a list of colors they provided.
The scale of the appearance was 1A) Clear, meaning it was crystal clear transparent water. 1B) Tea colored, meaning transparent water which has been colored by dissolved organic matter from upstream bogs or wetlands. 2) Cloudy, not quite crystal
Internship is a six to eight weeks working experience in any organization. The purpose behind doing an internship is to get familiar with a professional working environment. Often students do internships during there vacations so as to gain experience in their field of interest. Students studying engineering, computer science, textiles or business management; they are required to perform at least an internship so as to receive degree from their respective institutions. The purpose of writing this essay is to share my wonderful working experience as an internee at Spyglass Winery. I loved every minute of it as I discovered several new skills and came across with some interesting job opportunities. This statistical analysis (www.fasttrackinternships.com) shows the rate of full time job placements according to the number of internships completed.
The main task of my internship was to gain more experience and knowledge of our respective field. Overall, the experience proved to be both enjoyable and rewarding. During this internship I used the skills that I learned from my Medical Assistant class and used them in the real world scenarios at the hospital. Also while I there I was exposed to new experiences. Such as performing Urine test on Drug and alcohol patients. For this procedure I had to stand in the restroom with the patient's and watch them urinate into a cup. I had to stand in the restroom with the patients because in the past they try and cheat the system. For example
For my internship, I served under the Allegheny County Health Department in Pittsburgh, PA. I served as the National Health Corps Member for the Women, Infants, and Children Program as their Care Coordinator for all nine offices. Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) is a supplemental nutrition agency that targets pregnant and postpartum women and young children ages 5 and under who are at risk of malnutrition. My supervisor Annie Nagy along with my mentors in the office made sure I was able to receive all of the materials and resources I would need to have a complete and successful internship.
My internship experience has differed from my initial expectations of what it would be like in several ways. One is that I assumed that the main task of redesigning annual report would be very difficult, require an ample supply of extensive research, and work. It turned out that the task is much more simple than I imagined it to be and actually requires less work but more smart work. The experience made me realize that the main aspect of this specific task was to emphasize the creativity of the new design. Another
The majority of my internship entailed the observation of court proceedings and different parts of the trial process. Through my observation I was able to further build
The internship was a channel to direct my passion for helping others; my supervisor assigned me numerous projects that involved communicating with community leaders. One project was a collaboration with the U.S. Probation Office to reduce recidivism, and it allowed me first hand encounter on how to create policies and procedures to promote community and individual growth. This insight has inspired me to attend law schools to influence legal policies. After the internship, I continued my involvement in the community outreach through the Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters and The Females' Center of Excellence & Leadership, Inc. by mentoring at-risk youths and providing learning opportunities to the youths.
I selected this particular internship because it revolves around education and communication skills, both of which are featured in my internship. This internship focusses on “informal science education and engaging the public about science”. There are a few similarities between this internship and mine. Science education is the primary goal of this internship and my internship focusses on teaching urban ecology. The second similarity is that you must be good at presenting information you have been previously trained on.
This internship trained me in the use of various software programs. My ability to understand and troubleshoot in various programs would allow me to use quantitative and qualitative standard procedures. In any organization where I had the chance to learn, I demonstrated my aptitudes and abilities, such as focusing on details, analyzing procedures, and adhering to corporate
Currently, I am a sophomore studying Molecular Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Nevada, Reno. As a college student, one of the most important aspect of my education career is to gain different kind of experiences from opportunities that are offer at the university. Personally, I believe that completing a paid, local internship can give students, such as myself, the chance to gain valuable work experience and build networks and connections, while applying knowledge and skills in real life settings. Every type of experiences that exist, such as internships, offer me the chance to enhance my strengths, understand the world around me, and to push myself in continuing to develop as an individual to become successful in life. For example, I was selected as an art intern for the Summer Business Institute Program in Summer 2014. Throughout the eight weeks of exploring to arts, I had an opportunity to work with a team of artists to create a mural and an art piece for two local community centers in Las Vegas as well as organizing a civil engagement project for a neighborhood that have families who are in need of financial aid. As a result, we were thanked by the families to sponsor an event for their children to enjoy art for a day. Reflecting back on
As a research intern, I learned many new things through working on different projects. One of my favorite research projects was investigating the effects of surgeon mental skills training on laparoscopic surgery performance. On this project, I was exposed to various aspects of the research process.
What was missing or disappointing, if anything, about this internship? What was especially rewarding and educational?
The goals I have going into this new internship opportunity include learning about what Planning and Zoning does on a day-to-day basis and the array of jobs the employees have. Being interested in the natural resources field, I am really hoping to gain some experience that includes some aspects of natural resources. I know it will be different from Camp Ripley in what they do, but I am still excited to see what other jobs are out there that I can learn from and maybe get a better idea in what I want to do after high school.
Another one of my internships was at a family resource center. There services ranged from counseling, community classes, food pantry services, medical and dental services, and insurance assistance. Vista Community Clinic: The Gary Center helped different population of clients of all ages, ethnicities, and economic backgrounds. One of my main tasks to do was help people fill out their Medi-Cal, Cal Fresh, and Cash aid applications. This task helped me learn more about the insurance system and how complicated it can be to apply to. I also assisted in the food pantry where I was able to interact with clients of all different ages and ethnicities. However, the major population served was Latino/a low income community. Working with population
The summer before I was the campaign manager for Jesse Kremer and he won convincingly. That was a huge learning experience in itself. This internship was also a giant learning experience. Doing what I did in Madison was something I could see myself doing someday in the future.
I had the opportunity to internship at the Barstow Police Department. I was the first intern they had ever allowed to work with them. I got to learn a lot about the operation of a municipal law enforcement agency. I got observe in dispatching, go on a ride-a-long, work with the records department, I got to work with the Crime Scene Investigator and Evidence Room Technician, sit in on a detective briefing, and get involved with community programs.
