The conflict that I have chosen involves Jen, my old roommate, and recent living situation. Jen had a substance abuse problem with alcohol, which led her to living a life in a way that was not healthy. The purpose of this conflict is to show others that just because some issues can be resolved with proper management skills, there are some that we as individuals are not qualified to resolve. It is worthy of analysis because it deals with what I believe is an intractable issue that needed more than a resolution between two people. After evaluating this conflict, I can expect to break down future conflicts, manage them properly, and deeply understand the issue at hand.
Description
It wasn’t until the first weekend of summer that I began to notice Jen’s behavior. The Friday night of the first weekend of summer, Jen didn’t come home. I didn’t know where she was and even stayed up decently late to see if she was going to come home. Saturday morning rolled around and she was downstairs making breakfast. I didn’t bother to ask where she had been the night before since she was an adult and made her own decisions. Slightly worried, I brushed it off and told myself that it probably wouldn’t happen again. A couple days went by and I found myself in the same situation again. It was a Monday night around 11:00pm and no sign of Jen. I sent her a text asking if she was “Ok” but never got a response. So, I went to bed and prayed that she was safe. The next morning I got out of bed and as I walked into the kitchen I heard a coughing sound. I quickly noticed that it was coming from our stairway, which has a door that divides the upstairs and downstairs. The coughing became louder and louder so I decided to open the door. There I found Jen lying on the stairs, passed out in her own vomit. She still had all of her clothes on from the night before with her car keys in her hand, and eyes half open. She looked like she had tried to make it up the stairs to the bathroom, but either fell down or decided to just sleep there. I shook her and said “Jen, Jen wake up” until she opened her eyes. She sat up with a confused look on her face, asking me what was going on. I told her that I had heard her coughing and found her laying in her own
How many interpersonal conflicts have you been in today, this week, or even this month? Do you even know which conflict styles you normally use when faced with a disagreement? Furthermore, this analysis shall reflect on my particular conflict styles, with an in-depth look at possible benefits of knowing the conflict styles I tend to incorporate, and how behaviors change based on a relationship and the environment.
There are roughly 800,000 people living within the United States that is under the protection of an executive order during the Obama administration called Deferred Action Against Childhood Arrivals, or DACA. These children, commonly referred to as “Dreamers,” have grown up in the United States. They attended elementary school here, many graduated high school here, and many went on to become successful adults living in the United States, but as of September 5th, 2017 the DACA program was shut down by the Trump administration, pending a trial in Congress. This means that those hundreds of thousands of individuals living under the DACA arm will no longer be legal residents in the United States.
In general, conflict theory is to explain the conflict between authority groups and powerless groups through the uneven distribution of power and resources in society (Lai, 2013). It is based entirely in power and how those in power do all they can to hold the majority of the population down and to keep them from gaining power, so as to secure their own position. Conflict theorists all assume that the existing social order is not a product of consensus and mutual benefit but rather a function of power differentials in society. These perspectives recognize that societal resources are limited and contend that opposing groups are in a constant struggle for a greater share of the resources and power that comes with them. As groups struggle to gain
Research shows that positive thoughts can help you to build skills and make a real value in your life, while negative thoughts narrow your mind and you only focus on negative emotions. (Clear, How Positive Thinking Builds Your Skills, Boosts Your Health, and Improves Your Work, Paragraph 3 and Paragraph 13) But what would be the best response to conflict, a negative attitude or a positive attitude? We can look at people such as Louise Ogawa who was in Japanese internment camps in the United States also during World War II who both had a positive response to conflict. Anne Frank who was in the concentration camps in Germany during World War II is another great example of a positive response to conflict. After reading about these people and
“Two Kinds” by Amy Tan is a story that shows a battle between the narrator and her mother, for control over the narrator’s life. Her mother wanted her to become a prodigy, but she wanted to be anything other than her mother’s idea of a successful American. So, throughout the short story “Two Kinds” she’s determined to not quit the fight to no longer have her mother push for her success. Her determination leads to her rebelling against her mother’s ideas, and finally puts a stop to the idea of a prodigy. “Two Kinds” demonstrates different forms of conflict which allowed for the narrator to realize that her mother’s crazy antics were to help her find what she was good at. The narrator conquers the twoness in her life after eighteen years by using the conflicts of her past, and they lead to her growth in maturity and her development as a writer, which allows for her to reconfigure the battles with her mother.
Some of the pros of having the religious status around the capitol building would be expressing the religious diversity within the state. It would also be a moral compass for the legislatures. Lastly, it would show that all religions are equal in the eyes of that state. Some of the cons would be two statuses with contradicting religions, like Christianity and Satanism, could end up right beside each other and cause an up roar among the people. Plus, there would never be an end to all the statues that need to be made because there are just too many religions. Finally, the Constitution states to keep religion away from state affairs, so the statues may violate those amendments. If I had to decide a how to resolve the conflict, I would remove the statue of Jesus and try to keep religion away from the government. The other possible solution would to provide statues for every religion.

I feel Comm 3010: Communication and Conflict would be beneficial to my career because it would help prepare me for any arguments I may encounter. I plan to work in the medical field so I will constantly be surrounded by numerous people day in and day out. Learning communication strategies will help me reason better with my colleagues and my superiors. Comm 4004: Intercultural Communication will provide me with a better understanding of how to communicate with people from different countries. As nurses, it is imperative that we have skills to deal with conflict we encounter throughout the day. Some conflicts are easily handled with simple solutions; other disagreements can persist for weeks or even months and never be handled in a proper way to resolve the situation. The later kind of situation can create resentment, anger, and animosity between employees or colleagues. In this paper I will describe a conflict situation with resolution strategies used by the confronter, discuss other ways to resolve the conflict, and discuss the conflict theory most beneficial to use with a diverse group of people.
There are numerous entities and situations that can be avoided throughout the durations of one’s life, but there are a few things that cannot be escaped being a United States citizen; and that’s taxes and conflict. It’s hard to go a single day without running into some form of conflict, whether it be constructive, or destructive conflict. For me, conflict has always seemed to either go really good, or take a turn for the worst. Over the past few months I’ve attempted to work on some of my strategies to better deal with my day-to-day interpersonal conflicts, so I get in the rhythm of trying to successfully complete an altercation. With that being said, I would like to discuss a conflict that was both relational and organizational. This conflict
Conflict theory is the theory that human behavior in social contexts is the result of conflicts between competing groups, as different social groups, be they class-, gender- or race-defined, have unequal power and access to power, yet all groups compete for limited resources. This inevitably gives rise to tension and conflict, albeit often of the subtle variety, as oftentimes the conflicts between groups have been institutionalized in society to such a degree that the conflicts and tensions are such an expected part of society that the conflict, and inequality, itself disappears from public sight, and consciousness. For example, an adherent of a world systems theory of conflict would point to the global competition for resources, particularly the inequality between rich and poor nations struggling to provide the basic necessities of life to their inhabitants, as evidence of global conflict. Conflict theories seek to explain the interactions of groups within society, and assert that social order is preserved involuntarily through the exercise of power one social class holds over another (Lindsey, 2010, 7). The conflict between groups is not always obvious or apparent, so it must be unraveled and examined in order to identify and establish the impact of such conflict on society as a whole, as well as individual members and social groupings.
Conflict is defined as the behaviour due to which people differ in their feelings, thought and/or actions. Collins (1995) states that the conflict is a ‘serious disagreement and argument about something important’ and also as ‘a serious difference between two or more beliefs, ideas or interests’ (cf. Kumaraswamy, 1997, p. 96). In general it is believed that conflicts are the underlying cause of disputes. In other words, dispute is a manifestation of the deep rooted conflict. A dispute is defined as ‘a class or kind of conflict, which manifests itself in distinct, justifiable issues. It involves disagreement over issues capable of resolution by negotiation, mediation or third party adjudication’
Alper, S., Tjosvold, D., & Law, K. S. (2000). Conflict management, efficacy, and performance in organizational teams. Personnel Psychology, 53(3), 625-642. This study looked at the management of conflict and linked it empirically with organizational team and efficacy research. There were sixty-one teams with nearly 500 employees studied, all belonging to a leading manufacturer of electronic products. A structural equation analysis was used to show that a cooperative approach to conflict is more effective than a competitive approach to same. Making use of autonomy can also make a person or a team more productive.
Conflicts are more common than not in this day and age. You can have a conflict in a work or school environment over anything. In order to fix most conflicts there has to be an open communication. Lack of communication can cause more problems than fix them.
This is a research about conflict which should be considered and resolute during a project. Although, six experts are from different background, there are many sufficient methods to deal with different kind of issues during the working. The great mode has used in the research is Thomas-Kilmann’s conflict mode instrument. (Thomas, K. W., & Kilmann, R. H. ,1974). There are five effective approaches are discussed. Each approaches have its positive and negative effects. Also, there are many problems that each expert should consider about themselves which can devote their effort to help finish the project successfully. Achieving mastery through a comprehensive study of all of these methods can finally bring a huge success to the whole project.
