Reflection Paper On Core Values

Growing up, I did not have much stability in my life and quite frankly it almost feels as if I never developed a culture. Trying to explain my culture is difficult for me and is something that I have never considered until I joined this class. After a lot of thought and critical thinking, I decided that for me to get a sense of my culture I needed to discover what my core values are in life, analyze how these became my core values, and determine why these are important to me. To begin, I am going to give a little bit of my childhood background. When I was a young child, my dad developed an addiction with drugs and alcohol and became physically and domestically abusive. In return, my mom became dependent on alcohol to help cope with the situation she and her kids were living in. With that being said, I have lived in 14 different houses and attended four different schools, which is one of the reasons I previously stated that I did not have much stability in my childhood. Since I had so much going on as a child and I also have a sister that is two years younger than me, I became independent at a very young age and started developing my own morals, beliefs, and aspirations as I told myself that I would not follow in my parent’s footsteps. My independence and drive are characteristics that I have possessed since I was younger until now, which will lead into my core values.
