Through the story of a woman with disabilitiesand working, the author applies Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Convention of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and NASW Code of Ethics to relate to author's experience in a human rights environment.

I was shocked again and thought "What is this man doing?" I quickly pull of mother's hand, trying to have her attention about the situation, meanwhile, trying to step my little foot out and trip him. My mother had finally stopped educating me and pull me back from my naïve action. Instead, she pushed me forward in order to stop the man from walking away. I quickly understood her action and started to cried. As I projected my voice, more people gather around the stand. My mother then started to question him about the "white money." Unable to take the pressure from the crowd, the man pulled out money as he was running away from the embarrassment. After dinner that night, my mother pulled me on the sofa and have a talk with me. She did not award me for my bravery, instead, she scolded me for my unthoughtful actions. Since, my father was not around at the time. Identity as woman and children seems as weak in the society. Standing up to a strong man not only is again the social norm but is considered dangerous to our safety. The man would have been fought back and placed my mother and I in a dangerous situation. At the age of twelve, I have realized that since I am labeled as a minority, female, child, for my own safety, I should notice the adults first, in order to act upon my thoughts.
