“We see and understand things not as they are but as we are” Discuss this claim in relation to perception.
Knowledge Question: To what extent does our sense perception limit the way we perceive reality?
Word Count: 800
Knowledge is an extensive concept which has no precise definition since it has no end or limit. In a constantly changing world, several individuals have different upbringings, prejudices, viewpoints and the way we perceive or understand certain things may be different from how they are in reality. Firstly sense perception, in this case is simply what the eyes see, the nose smells, the ears hear or the body feels. Secondly, reality is not a subjective knowledge, but rather an objective one.

Our senses help us gather and respond to information about our surroundings, which in turn aids our survival through our reciprocation to most sensory information.Improvements in science have enhanced the quality of life for many people with sensory disabilities by providing things as alternative methods of communication, increasing mobility and technology for sensory enhancement. For example, sound and smell has a strong influence in our daily lives it increases our emotional quotient thus improving our productivity during work. Therefore, the way we perceive reality can be tied to our emotions hence, sense perception in some ways can grow our perception of reality.
To conclude, I personally believe that sense perception is dependent on many external factors thus can limit the way we perceive reality and can sometimes betray us or memory that influences our ways of knowing. Reality is altered everyday to some extent. However, we have become intelligent enough to understand this idea over the decades, hence we can not let these things come in the way of truth. That is why we use reason and logic and put aside our sense perceptions and try to see things not as they are but as we
Have you ever thought you heard something, but there was nothing there? Have you ever thought you saw someone in the corner of your eye, and when you looked there was no person there? When we look down from a high building on people, do they appear small like ants? Aren't there thousands of occasions when we do misperceive? What is reality and perception? Mainstream science describes reality as "the state of things as they actually exist". So reality is simply: everything we observe. Perception is the process by which organisms interpret and organize sensation to produce a meaningful experience of the world (sapdesignguild.org np). I believe people should base some decisions
Perception is the way you think or understand someone or something. Some people use perception to let it influence their thoughts and beliefs. They view people in a different way before knowing them and their potential. It is human instinct to misperceive before understanding the truth in circumstances such as “The Faith of Rahab”, misperceiving other individuals, and also myself.
Do you think perception is reality? I do not think perception is reality. A lot of people perceive things that are not reality. Almost everyone sometimes perceives different things. Everyone has their own way of perceiving things and there are a lot of people in the world.
The first thing that I learned about perception was earlier discovered by a psychologist by the name of Max Wertheimer. He discovered that our body clearly separates images into figures
Question 1 1 out of 1 points Correct Perception can be influenced by our wishes. Answer Correct Answer: True
A long time ago the difference between perception and reality was defined as the act of understanding in contrast to the act of being real. Reality could be tricky; most of us including myself depending on scenarios of our lives tend to give in to ideas which are not applicable to reality as a whole. The best example of this is written in the short story “All Over” by Guy de Maupassant. In which his main character Lormerin is very self conscious and narcissistic also Lise de Vance, a former old love plays a big role in hurting Lormerin ego and opening his eyes by showing him, his real self. Many would say that when reality knocks it could be harsh and confusing. In the next couple of
ABSTRACT: The aim of this paper is to defend a broad concept of visual perception, according to which it is a sufficient condition for visual perception that subjects receive visual information in a way which enables them to give reliably correct answers about the objects presented to them. According to this view, blindsight, non-epistemic seeing, and conscious visual experience count as proper types of visual perception. This leads to two consequences concerning the role of the phenomenal qualities of visual experiences. First, phenomenal qualities are not necessary in order to see something, because in the case of blindsight, subjects can see objects without experiences phenomenal
Sense perception is a way to gain information by using our sense: touch, feel, taste, see, hear, and smell, it is a way of knowing. When it comes to ways of knowing, like sense perception, it is questionable whether or not it affects us in a positive or negative way. It can be argued if it is leading us in the wrong direction. If you see it, do you believe it?
* Nurture : Sometimes our sensory information also depends upon the type of bringing up we have received eg: we trend to pray the moment our senses realize the we are crossing some religious place because we have be taught since childhood to respect GOD but the person from a family that does not believe in GOD might not do the same for his sense will not ask him to do so.
This discussion is all about perception and how we look at things. Everyday we use our senses to improve our ability to see, hear, and become aware of something either good or bad. You can also use perception as a way of regarding, understanding, or interpreting something as well. During the watching of this video, there are some key points your wanting to know and understand.
Perception is reality to the person who sees, reads, or hears something. Perception is influenced by culture, gender, physical space, race, ethics, morals, educational levels, tone or perceived tone of communication. The way I try to overcome perception is by being aware of nonverbal aspects of interactions with others. I also try to be aware of my own nonverbal behavior and be sensitive to how they may be perceived.
Assumptions and beliefs have the potential to be the most impactual factor in a human's reality without them even realizing it. Indirect realist believe sensory perceptions is a combination of previously stored information about the world, which is built as a result of experience as well as information in the stimuli (McLeod). On the contrary, direct realists believe assumptions and beliefs do not have an impact on sense perception because perception is purely based on an external object that is independent of a perceiver's awareness of it (BonJour). I believe that one's sense perception is not a direct process and that our assumptions and beliefs play a major role in sense perception by filtering, thus impacting our perception of the external
through our senses is actually an accurate interpretation of reality. After we’ve established that our senses aren’t
