Throughout my life I have only attended rap concerts, and family friendly musicals. Being enrolled in a Western Musicology class has really extended my horizons in regard to music. When I was asked to attend a Western Music Concert, at first, I was overwhelmed with the thought that the concert would be very formal and that I would have to sit through someone playing a violin for about three hours. My personal experience was very different than the image painted in my head. I attended the Eastern Standard Trio, a trio consisting of a horn, tuba, and piano. During the concert, I was pleasantly surprised at how informal the trio was. Before the actual concert began, Heidi Lucas, the French horn player, came onto the stage and introduced every person in the trio and their origins which really allowed me to connect with all of the players individually. Also, in addition to the explanation of the players and their backgrounds, prior to the performance of each piece the trio would explain the reasoning behind each piece and where the composer was coming from in regard to the musical work.
The music was very new to me because the combination of a French horn, piano, and tuba is something I am not accustomed to. The combination of the three instruments made sense to me once I heard the performance because I realized that the different instruments can all stand out in their own way, but also combine to make harmonizing sounds. Typically, I would not attend a concert like this, but I found it to be very refreshing and intriguing as to how different stoppers and mouth positions can change the sounds that instruments produce. Overall the performance was engaging and exciting to watch, and I was pleasantly surprised at how much I could comprehend from the music with only a month of Musicology class.
The concert itself was in the Natalie L. Haslam Music Building, in the same exact room that my musicology class is currently located. Whenever I walk into that specific room, my experience has always been shaped around music and I am accustomed to the room itself. The location of the concert helped to shape my experience in that I felt comfortable enough to engage and laugh when things were funny, but also pay attention as if
For this concert report I chose to go to a performance of student composers held at the Kimball Recital Hall. I chose this one because I wanted to see some of the talent that my peers have in the music realm, and also it was one of the only concerts I have been able to attend because I usually work at night. It was impressive to hear pieces composed by students. I cannot imagine creating something as complex as a musical composition, much less actually performing it, so this aspect of the concert was particularly awe-inspiring. There was a large attendance, and I think that much of the audience consisted of friends of the composers and/or performers. I went with three friends, who I convinced by telling it would be interesting to see
The concert was very good overall. I am not interested in the classical music concert, but this concert made me thing different towards the classical concerts. Also I learned about the instrument called organ, very interesting instrument. I strongly recommend going to the organ concert. Especially if Dr. Carol Williams and Martha Jane Weaver are starring, you should definitely attend. No regret
The first concert I attended was performed by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra had performed Shostakovich’s “Symphony NO. 7, Leningrad” from the Romantic era. The orchestra was a large ensemble (1) containing various instruments that contributed to the overall sound of the piece. Since the orchestra was a large ensemble, just like the instrumentation common in the Romantic era, the orchestra was able to perform in a lively, vigorous manner, probably vivace (2). The orchestra performed tutti
On Friday, July 10th, I chose virtually to attend an online YouTube Symphony Orchestra Concert-2011. Many beautiful pieces were performed by a magnificent orchestra that included more than sixty participants and consisted of instruments such as: flutes, oboes, horn, clarinets, bassoons, trumpets, percussions and strings. Concert’s selections varied in length, temperament, mood and dynamics. Orchestra Symphony gave an overpowering, extraordinary presentation and delivery.
On Friday night, November 13, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. I attended the Manhattan School of Music for the Jazz Orchestra that performed by Jazz vocalists and MSM alumni Jane Monheit and many other musicians. That place is unlikely the ordinary place, people have appropriate dress on and have nicely etiquette toward the performers, unlike me, many of audiences seem like that they come to this concert with certain knowledge of Jazz orchestra. And its musical venue was the ideal spot for the concert, so I sat in a decent spot spot that located at midst of the concert hall where I can view all the performers and hear performers’ music clearly. And the conductor informally began the show was quite nicely and politely which made me feel really comfortable
My first concert experience turned out to be very different from what I expected. Even though I would not choose to listen to classical music normally, the concert has made me enjoy this type of music more and made me think about how much more there is to music than just lyrics and a
Overall, I enjoyed the performance; the chance to play such amazing pieces, the opportunity to bring a smile to the audience, and to continue to learn and push myself to better my style of playing. There is always something almost magical about staring out into the audience at the end of a performance; it always brings a smile to my face. As great as the concert turned out to be, there are a few things I wish would have been different, such as, having more room on the stage, having the auditorium be slightly cooler than it was, and performing Riders for the Flag
Everyone, one time or another has been on a bad date or two, but when I look back, it is really my fault for being that stupid to go on a second date with him in the first place. As cute as one would think taking a guy to a country concert would be; taking cute pictures with him and getting to ride in a truck, make sure the guy is not flipping crazy. When you are trying to have a good time, and go to a concert do not invite boys who are clingy and childish because they will get butt hurt and throw your keys out their window. Do not be like me. Do not be the girl standing at the Florida fair grounds looking for her keys in the road at 1 in the morning. This is one of those stories that you think would suck now, but we could look back on in 10 years and laugh, well it has been 2 months and I’m still not laughing.
The second concert I attended was the Shepherd school of music collegium concert at Rice University. The program featured music from the renaissance and was a little bit different then the orchestra concert I attended. For one there were fewer musicians. It had a more intimate setting, not a big theater but rather a small rehearsal hall. The musicians exchanged in and out after there part of the performance was over and there was some singing as well.
The concert was performed on the Southam Hall stage at the NAC; this is a large hall with extremely good acoustics. It is a nationally known stage, so the quality of the hall is very good. Generally, the audience was very receptive as it was composed of adults, who were all silent. The acoustics were very good as the hall spread the sound throughout the hall without making it echo. This had a positive effect on the performance, because it was possible for the orchestra to be clearly heard from any point in the entire hall. I was impressed by the large number of students that I saw that night because the show deserved to have been heard by many young people.
On Thursday April 25, 2013 , I attended a jazz vocal concert at the Music Concert Hall. The first vocal ensemble opened up the performance with a slow rhythmic song called Blue Skies. It began with vocals and I noticed a light auxiliary percussion and drum rhythm. Also, the bass guitarist used walking bass and the piano and electric guitar joined in as well. The first song also consisted of two soloist Regina and Chantel who took the front stage to show off their chops. After the solo performances they fell back into the vocal sections and finished off the song as a complete band. The second performance had a piano opening which led to vocals joining in at the same time as the rhythm section. This performance
As we all waited in line to go into the concert there was a thrill of
For my second concert report I thought that I would write about my only experience hearing songs of the Beatles live. The Rib America Festival was hosted by The Beatles Live Repertoire. The group dressed exactly like the Beatles, even had the same names, John, Paul, George, and Ringo. I had never heard any Beatles songs live before, so that was enough to get me off my butt. Not to mention, it was free entertainment, not a bad time at all.
While walking from class yesterday, I saw something. I noticed there was a group of individuals setting up a tent, electric keyboard, and a few other things amongst these. It was obvious to me as if there was going to be a local concert in the park. I assumed this would be produced by a group of younger people, but it was led by an older group. To me, this was rather interesting since it was as close as Woodruff Park. This was a close location from to my dorm and right outside the location of my class. Unfortunately, I was not able to stay for the first half of the session, but I was able to return for a short time after leaving my meeting.
This afternoon, I went to the music concert hall where is located in the music building for the listening hour, a small noon-time concert which is performed by the staff and students from the music majors. Since it is a free noon-time concert, most of the audiences just wear the t-shirts and jeans to the concert. Dresses are not required for the concert. The performance today is given by the Ananda Jazz Ensemble. They have played “Running Away”, composed by Bob Marley; “Madalena”, composed by Ivan Linz; “Conejitos y Ananda”, composed by Abi Romero; “La Bikina”, composed by Ruben Fuentes; and “Chukaro”, also composed by Abi Romero. Because this is a Latin Americdan Journey, all of the music performed is jazz music. All pieces played in the concert are an ensemble of piano, bass, and drums. During the concert, I was trying to be a perceptive listener; I enjoyed the music with concentration and paid attention to the music’s unity and variety, such as the dynamics and tempos. I also tried to associate the music with a picture when I listened to it and understand the emotion in the music.
