Reflective Analyses Paper Chapter 4: Human Rights to Health Care

As humans we have the rights to have access to health care. This means that every individual should be able to receive the highest possible standard of mental and physical health care. For instance, housing/ shelter, medical services, sanitation, safe working condition, and clean environment. Unfortunately, there are many people that go without proper health care, due to the judgements that are made based on which populations and which individuals can have access to drugs, and who will be vulnerable to ill health. However, access to health care is an issue, there are more than one factor that influences health, social, economic, and environmental. In addition, one can come to understand health by viewing it through the perspective of human rights. A justice based approach to health, and humans rights as a framework for health development. There are about 42 million people in the world who live with HIV and thousands die a day from it. Approximately, less than 5 percent of those people who are affected by this disease receive treatments. In addition, many of those who do not recieve treatment is due to low income, and marginalized populations in high income countries. The cost of treatment is simply to high for some people. Furthermore, here we see a form of discrimination and a violation to the human rights. The violation is a failure to provide access to treatment and care. What I find most shocking is that this issue is not fairly new, and The United Nations, understand how big of an issue this is. For instance, The United Nations detailed specific guidlines indicating that there is a relationship between human rights and HIV/AIDS epidemic. The guidelines have 3
