Overall, I think my experience in my first college level English class was an admirable one to say the least. In high school I was never one to take advanced an English class for the simple fact that English is my worst subject and I am not a big fan of reading. I think this is mostly do to my lack of imagination, and since I am a visual learner, I have difficulty visualizing and understanding what I am reading. This intro to college writing classes has moved me one step closer to becoming the writer that I desire to be and has taught me many things, among them, avoiding plagiarism, application of constructive criticism, and making my writing more interesting. In high school, I never cared to pay much attention to giving authors credit for their work and I definitely never cared to state what page in a reading I found my information from. Once I got into college Professor Jones helped me to avoid plagiarism and give the author’s the credit they deserve. For example, in the in-class essay assignment I quoted the author as follows, “While conservatives see Euthanasia is illegal and ‘unethical for a doctor to deliberately enable a person to terminate his/her life’ (Squadrin 7).” At the end of my quotations I placed the author’s name and the page number I located the information from in parenthesis then placed a period after the parentheses. Quoting the author this way allows the reader to know from who and where you got your information from, makes you a more credible source,

A reflective essay is essentially an essay designed to emulate past experiences or occurrences in writing form. Most reflective essays are to show the reader changes and evolutions of yourself or certain aspects about yourself, so there is a constant change of tenses during the essay between past and present. During this essay I will be describing the most important parts of writing a reflective essay and all the key elements that should be included.

This semester, we have practiced several reading, writing, and critical thinking skills. Many of these that have helped me become a better writer this past semester. The readings, writings, and critical thinkings were not the only things that helped me become a better writer. I highly believe that the constructive criticism from yourself Professor Freeman is what helped the most. Every Time you graded a paper and left comments it pushed me to do better and improve on the next. So if I was to take anything to English 101/Composition 2 it would be a combination of determination to be better and all of my skills i’ve learned over this semester, such as outlines, organization, analyzing, and how to write a working thesis.
Over the course of this semester I have learned many different things in English 101 with Dr. Mary Bell. I have learned about four main things that have helped transform my writing immensely. These four things are: rhetorical awareness, critical thinking, reflection and revision, and conventions. Each of these four things I have learned this year have changed my writing for the better in their own unique way. Through the usage of these different techniques I believe I have grown as a writer.
It was a very sad day in small town Rosalie, Nebraska. The sun didn’t seem to be shining as bright and the usual small, energetic children were nowhere to be found. It wasn’t the same without Betty Nelson around in the community of just a hundred or so people. The sweet, gentle smell of her cookies baking or the quick glimpse of the twinkle in her eye when she would tell her famous stories. My great-grandmother was someone very special to almost everyone that met her. She was always doing everything she could to help people, family or not. She was one of the wisest people and no one, especially me could get enough of her stories and adventures from her past childhood, teenage years, and motherly experiences. I was so shocked she was actually gone, after all the delightful memories I now had with her, but it was now time for everyone to grieve. I sat in the room, perspiration filling my nose as the sound of quiet sobs coming from my family around me fill my thoughts. I thought back to the good times as my mother told me to do. My favorite memory then came to me,
I have been a student at California State University Channel Islands (CI) for 5 semesters, and over the course of my stay I have grown and learned more that I thought possible. I came to this school from Moorpark Community College already knowing that I wanted to be an English teacher; I had taken numerous English courses and though I knew exactly what I was headed for-was I ever wrong. Going through the English program has taught me so much more than stuff about literature and language, it has taught me how to be me. I have learned here how to write and express myself, how to think for myself, and how to find the answers to the things that I don't know. Most importantly I have learned how important literature and language are.
Another religious value that was key to the success of Louie was forgiveness. After being tortured for two years as a prisoner of war Louie had terrible nightmares about the bird. He drank every day to try and forget. He couldn’t run in competitions anymore because his leg was damaged from falling when he was carrying coal in the Japanese camp. When he came back from being a prisoner everyone from Torrance was there to see Louie and cheer for him. It felt different than when they cheered for him when he ran. He didn’t feel like a hero because he did nothing but survive. When he first met his wife he thought that she would help him forget about the torture he went through but it never helped. Not even having a kid took away the bad memories. On chapter 17 page
This page is one of my favorites as I love to read. Most of my high school career I was given the privilege of being able to choose my own books to read for school. As a result, I enjoyed many of the assignments given to me in regard to the novels I chose. This page highlights some of the projects I completed for my independent novels. The first two projects were completed during my Junior year in Honors English 11. The other two were done for AP English my Senior year.
English class has been a major part of the curriculum in every grade that I and every other student have braved. Some classes were more engaging than others, but in all of them I learned something about myself. Few, however, have affected me like my most recent English class, English II. English II brought to light my successes and failures as a student. In English II, I overcame a difficulty, discovered a difficulty that I still have today, and rediscovered a passion for reading.
When I was signing up for my classes for my senior year, I decided to take English Composition 1 for my final English credit for the sole reason that it takes only half a year to complete. I had been warned by veterans of the course that the class would be difficult. This did not bother me too much, as taking AP Physics my junior year taught me that I work harder in an environment with rigorous work. During the course, I was delighted when I discovered that the class has heavily improved my essay writing skills throughout the year. Each consecutive essay had improved my writing for the better.
Different theories and ways of practising exist for counsellors, with reflective practice becoming more popular amongst practitioners. Dallos, & Stedmon (2009) state that for professionals working directly with people, such as counsellors, reflective practice has quickly developed into a fundamental component of training, and the best practice for creating successful outcomes. This essay will focus on how reflective practice is critical for professional life, and how the use of reflection and theory can be used by counselling practitioners to inform their practice.
Whilst on clinical placement, a male resident with dementia and I were sitting in his room within the nursing home for which he resided for the past two years. The resident was becoming anxious about his family, stating that they lived far away and he missed them. He showed me a card from one of his daughters she had sent for his birthday. As I was reading what she had written I became overwhelmed with empathetic emotion and wanted to cry due to her emotive words.
All in all, the class has taught me more material on how to improve my writing one step at a time and the assignments I have produced
When I first thought of what I wanted to do with my life after college, the first thing I thought of was helping people. The next step in deciding what I wanted to do with my life was to exam how I could accomplish this goal. I started pondering and I was thinking about how much I love to take care of my body. Health care and personal hygiene has always been an important factor in my life. So I decided to major in Health Science. With this major, I will be able to further my education in ways to be healthy and possibly learn how to help others. I decided that being a health physician or nutritionist was something that I was really interested in. This is where communication studies came in. I figured
