Reflective Essay
I was nervous and did not know what to expect before this course started. However, I know that I want to start my college career in the right manner by earn good grades from my first course in college. That said, I was prepared to work hard in this class and to give one hundred percent effort in class and in answering homework assign to me. This class has been informative and educational to me in many aspects. It is one of the best classes I have taken at Essex County College.
I have improved myself in several ways over the course of 16 weeks or so. One of the ways in which this class has helped me improve my grammatical construction and writing skills ability in English language. I have learned how to properly construct a
Beginning my career at Western Carolina University, I had no idea the impact writing has on future educators. It is extremely important to have an effective writing strategy in all aspects of teaching. You will be required to write lesson plans, referrals, and letters home to the parents. Each of these have different strategies, and all of these are used simultaneously throughout the school year. Throughout the essay I will explain how to do each of these writings, and also give step by step instructions on an effective way to make sure it is done correctly.
Improvement to my grammar is the second area I’ve developed in this course. “It’s the little things that matter”, said by many people, and the way this relates to my second reasoning is due to the fact little grammatical errors matter too. When writing papers, I learned the skill to reread my sentences repeatedly, and see if it sounds right as an overall sentence. This skill, not only helped improve my writing, but also my texting. Improving my grammar is also useful when creating a resume, and applying for jobs and even scholarships. Overall, it is a skill I am pleased I learned to develop, and hope it improves even more over time.
As I am transitioning to college, I have quickly realized that I am solely responsible for my own life and everything that comes with it. There is no one to remind me to do my homework, no one to make sure that I brushed my teeth twice a day, and no one to monitor whether or not I am eating well balanced meals. With this complete independence, I have realized that I am not as good as I originally thought at structuring my time effectively. For example, on Mondays I have two classes from nine to eleven in the morning but the rest of my day is free. I have found myself only doing homework and studying during the entire day until eventually it is time to go to bed. This is not a productive day. Yes, I get my homework done, but I am not budgeting time for my friends or working out. My goal is to try and structure my time better going forward in my college experience.
When I first started this class, I did not expect to learn as much as I did. My sister took the online version of this class and she told me that she barely put an effort in the class to get a good grade. I feel like that is the opposite reaction in my own experience. I think I put lot of effort into this class, but at the same time I did learn a lot from it. I even use the material from this class to do a whole new research paper on the different class because I feel like this class content is very interesting.
During the next couple years of my life, I plan on graduating high school, and with the help of a grant, attending Clackamas community college for two years. During these two years, I will be a student and be working in order to save money for the rest of my schooling. While I am studying at Clackamas community college, I will be studying under their engineering programs in order to get a head in my Engineering career. After the two years of community college I will be attending a in-state college with an engineering program.
Before taking this course I was really excited about what I am going to learn. And I was right! This course is not only interesting but it is also helpful. I have learned that the grade I am having right now is the reflection of my try throughout the entire semester.
This is my second year in COTC and I took GENR-91 last year. I am from china, and English is my second language. I came to the United States when I was 15-year-old and live in Dublin for almost six years and I have my high school in Dublin too. And I need to drive 40 minutes to get here every day. Before I attend to COTC I use one year to take the non-credit English class at Columbus state community college. After I graduate from the high school I feel like I am not ready for the college level class yet, so I decide to take some class before I get in the college. I take five classes this semester and I am in the nursing major.
What do you want to be when you grow up? Is one of the many questions that are asked by teachers and adults. Through the research and development of this paper, I feel that I am finally prepared to answer that question. College has always been in my plans but which college? Well, I have it narrowed down to three excellent and well -known colleges. Ohio University of Athens, The Ohio State University of Columbus and Miami University are the colleges that I feel would foremost prepare me to become an athletic trainer.
Growing up in Lynchburg, VA I have always grown up around Liberty. I was baptized at Thomas Road when I was younger, and that has really helped shape the kind of leader and person I am today. Starting in the eighth grade, I began attending campus church, held on Wednesday nights. The atmosphere there, and how kind everyone was is what first made me consider Liberty University. After graduating, I chose to take a different path and pursue a major that wasn’t offered at Liberty, after spending the first semester at Radford University, I decided that this was not home and not the type of environment I liked or needed to be a part of. I feel that transferring to Liberty is the direction I need to go to continue my career and to strengthen my relationship
Coming out of high school I was happy that I graduated but I also felt lost in a way, I did not know what I wanted to study or even what I truly wanted in a university so I decided to attend community college not only was it cheaper but it would give me time to take classes and try to figure out the career path that I wanted to take. It was the more practical decision for at the time and then later on transfer to the University of my choice. At first my approach to community college was a place to go attend my classes go to work and go home. I became reserved unlike high school. I stayed in my own comfort zone which included just walking with the friends that I had known from high school. I went on about this way for the first year but I started
"Tomorrow is the first day of what I will become." I wrote this in my diary the night before my first day of college. I was anxious as I imagined the stereotypical college room: intellectual students, in-depth discussions about neat stuff, and of course, a casual professor sporting the tweed jacket with leather elbows. I was also ill as I foresaw myself drowning in a murky pool of reading assignments and finals, hearing a deep, depressing voice ask "What can you do with your life?" Since then, I've settled comfortably into the college "scene" and have treated myself to the myth that I'll hear my calling someday, and that my future will introduce itself to me with a hardy handshake. I can't completely rid my

When I first started the class I was struggling a lot. Since English is my second language, I had many stressful moments that made me think about dropping my classes. But when I thought about my future, I just kept studying even harder, waiting for my performance to improve. As a result, I felt like every time I wrote an essay, it got easier, which tells me that I’m on the right path. In addition, this class has helped me improve my grammar, taught me an important life lesson about sticking on my goal and helped me to enhance my computer skills
What has my journey to graduation been like for me? My journey has been a crazy, fun-filled learning adventure. I met many goals and accomplishments I set for myself but I also faced some challenges on the way. For example, I finally met my goal of graduating with a 4.6 GPA and maintaining it. Also, I accomplished completing my last four years of grade school and now I am on the way to college. My last year has been interesting and there are many goals, accomplishments and challenges I can reflect on.
It is my belief that through this class and the tools provided, that my growth as a writer has grown through leaps and bounds I would never have assumed possible. It is not so much the skill I refer to, although I would think skill has gone up in some levels as well, but more so the appreciation for the craft of writing itself. Intially, at the start of this class my sole goal was to further my understanding and appreciation of the writer's and books that I so love to read. Through further evaluation within the first week, a few other goals came to mind, of which were, making writing a habit, finishing what I start, stop second guess my writing skills and making effective use of detail and description. Through the use of the many articles, various reading materials, whether poems or short stories, and especially through the workshop, I feel I was able to really push myself to accomplishing these goals. I have thus far learned how important it is not to be skilled at writing per say, but to have the will to write, that poetry is as much about it's sound as it is about it's subject, just how important character development is, how the narration and point of view of a story is essential to the way the story is told, and just how much of a difference peer's critiques can make to your writing.
