How does one decide how to behave in daily life? What keeps an individual from cheating on a quiz he/she did not study for, and what makes a person decide to hand a five dollar bill to the homeless man on the side of the road? All these choices are based off of ethics. Ethics are the moral code that people follow to discern what is right from wrong. Therefore, in a general sense, ethical action is abiding by those morals when making decisions. Ethical action from a christian perspective takes it a bit deeper than that however. Lee University’s definition of ethical action is living as God calls us to live. In order to do this we must first understand the sacredness of absolutely all human life. If only we all would have this respect of human life and devote ourselves to live as God has called us to, then the world could be restored to God’s original design. This is the goal of ethical action, for justice to be established and for creation to flourish. When trying to apply ethical action to your life, people should notice a change. I want to stand out from the typical crowd, and as a christian, I should. There are certain things that I do not participate in due to the set of morals I follow. For example, lets look at the community covenant. By coming to Lee and signing the community covenant, I agreed not to participate in theft, cheating, drinking, and many other inappropriate behaviors. I agreed to these things because I already held the belief that those things are

Ethical teachings are one of the four main characteristics that influence Christianity to continue to be a living and dynamic religion. The core ethical teachings are based on the belief that adherents are made equally in the image of God with intellect, free will, love and power of self-determination. Its purpose is to help adherents determine and discover what is right and wrong, what the believers should freely do, or avoid doing. The main source of ethical teaching is stored within the central sacred text of the Bible, which explicitly provides a set guideline for Christians to have a deeper understanding of how to live life like their model ‘Jesus Christ’.
The question of what is truly the nature of justice remains an unanswered question as noted by Bertrand Russell in ‘The History of Western Philosophy’ wherein he notes that Socrates was unable to provide a convincing rebuttal of Glaucon’s arguments on justice, and neither have all the social philosophers since, been able to do. Amartya Sen, in his book ‘The Idea of Justice’, has
I talked with a couple of mental health professionals within the local area in which I live, I asked each of them form their perspective weather or not they work with insurance companies, what are the advantages of insurance panels, what are the struggles. One of the mental health care professional stated that some of the disadvantage being involved with insurance panels is the enormous amount of paper work that involved that must be prepared. This was one of her most frustration in work with insurance planes other than waiting to paid especially when it come third party payer. Also, the amount of wages which is non-negotiable, because the insurance company set their own pay rates which is considerably less that
What should be done right after a shock has been delivered and no signs of life are obvious?
As previously mentioned, my religious and spiritual beliefs shape my personal ethics. I grew up in a very Christian family (one grandfather was a pastor and the other is a deacon), so from a young age, I was instilled with a belief in God and His teachings, according to the Bible. As I get older, I am learning that a spiritual journey and relationship with God is one that is personal and cannot be easily taught or given by others. Therefore, I will admit that as I continue on my personal journey with God, my personal ethics are still being developed and shaped. Some behaviors that I may have thought were acceptable in the past, I no longer view the same. For example, I have a lot of passion for the organizations I am involved with, especially S.M.A.R.T, which is great as a leader. It is my passion which keeps me dedicated to the organization. However, because of this passion, when things are not going as I want them to, it might cause me to communicate in a way that is considered disrespectful to others. Either my tone, the loudness of my voice, or the things that I say have made others feel disrespected. Personally, I find disrespecting others to be unethical. Although I may not consciously decide to disrespect them, it is a result of my behavior. While, at one point, I
“Great individuals have great ethics and great values.” Ethics and morality can be used interchangeably as they sound as if they mean the same although there is a wide distinction between them. “Strictly speaking, morality is used to refer to what we would call moral standards and moral conduct while ethics is used to refer to the formal study of those standards and conduct. For this reason, the study of ethics is also often called moral philosophy." (Gordana D 2007)
Ethics and Law was never a main focus in classes I’d taken before entering graduate school. I only remember taking two classes about the topic in my communication studies curriculum. Even though I never had a chance to delve deeply into this area, my Communication Law class was one of my favorite classes in undergraduate study. I enjoyed learning about legal issues and learning the stories behind each case. Years later, I can still recall the stories and people behind some of communication’s greatest law cases because of the way my professor taught that class. Taking my interest in history and stories has allowed me to better understand ethics and law in the realm of higher education. Instead of being intimidated by the large volume of information surrounding the topic, I feel as if I have a solid foundation to build upon.
Christian ethics is a branch of Christian theology that deals with the idea of Virtuous actions and Non-virtuous actions from
In an attempt to obtain a clearer awareness of my own ethical perspectives, I completed the Ethics Awareness Inventory. This inventory presented me with several questions into what I valued most and least as moral values. In addition, the inventory presented two sample situations involving ethical considerations from a management per-spective in a work environment.
In today's world, individuals can make a single decision that can have a profoundly positive or negative effect on their family, their employer, coworkers, a nation, and even on the entire world. The life we lead reflects the strength of a single trait: our personal character. Personal ethics are different for each person but for the most part, people want to be known as a good person, someone who can be trusted, and he or she are concerned about his or her relationships and personal reputations. As we go through this paper, we will focus on answering what are ethics, what are your ethics, where do your ethics come from, and how do you manifest your ethics?
The word “ethics” comes from Greek ethikas meaning character. Today, we use ethics to describe the normative standard of behavior. The history of philosophical ethics has been broken up into five rational methods: Virtue, Traditional, Modern, and Post-Modern Ethics. Within these periods, the philosophy of ethics changed along with the changes being made within society.
No two people are the same, and they will never be the same. Even twins have different ways of viewing things. This is the same for people ethical views, according the The Merriam-Websters Dictionary (2015) the definitions for ethics is “The rules of behavior based on ideas about what is morally good and bad.” Knowing what is morally right or wrong especially in the business world can help prevent scandals or corrupt business practices. But in today society, ethics can be blurred through situations and personal views, now it seems as though people aren’t even thinking about what is ethical but more so what can benefit them. Within recent months, news of FIFA allowing bribes to be accepted from certain people has managed to corrupted a billion dollar business and affected their corporation along with allowing the world to see their ethical views. In this paper I will be talking about whether or not this a topical of ethical views, is this a common situation with management and if it affected international business.
At the beginning of my senior year of high school, I joined a government class called We The People. The government class went into depth with the Constitution while discussing about current controversial topics in politics. Every year, teams from all over the United States would compete to see who would be able to answer the toughest questions about current topics. It was not long before I made it past state and was in Washington, D.C. in order to compete in Nationals. So, how did I make it to Washington, D.C. and defeat all my ethical dilemmas?
