September 11th, 2001 was a very traumatic time for the United States. On that day planes were hijacked and flown into the World Trade Center and caused the Twin Towers to collapse (“11 Facts”). Along with the Twin Towers collapsing, the Pentagon building in Washington, DC was hit with a plane and another plane crashed down near Shanksville, Pennsylvania (“11 Facts”). On United Flight 93, the plane that crashed in Pennsylvania, passengers became aware of the hijacking and tried to fight the hijackers to regain control of the plane (“11 Facts”). September 11, 2001 is one of the most infamous dates in American history. On this day, 19 radicalized Islamic militants hijacked four United States-based airplanes. Two of the planes were flown into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City. Thousands of first responders, occupants of the Towers and bystanders were killed or injured. The third plane flew into the Pentagon in Washington D.C. and 125 people were killed. September 11, 2001 (herein referred to as 9/11) was a day in American history, which will be remembered as the most horrific attack on American soil. This attack, carried out by nineteen Islamic extremists, was associated with al-Qaeda, and involved the hijacking of four airplanes. Two of those airplanes were hijacked and flown directly into the World Trade Center in New York City, New York. The third plane’s target was the Pentagon in Washington D.C., and the fourth plane was brought down in Pennsylvania where it is believed the passengers aboard fought the hijackers. This horrific day in history cost over 3,000 people their lives, and was labeled the worst attack on American soil since the attack on Pearl Harbor during World War II.

On the morning of September 11, 2001, an Islamic terrorist group known as al-Qaeda carried out a series of four attacks on the United States. The most well-known attack is when two commercial airline planes crashed into the Twin Towers in New York City. Many innocent lives were lost and families were torn apart. While many Americans were determined to show their resilience towards the attacks, this is a day many Americans will never forget. Although the attacks happened sixteen years ago, Americans are still dealing with the impacts these attacks have had on life in America. The 9/11 attacks have had several long-lasting effects on everyday life in America, some of which include an increase in airport security, a change in national security, and an increase the fear of terrorism.

Life in America after 9/11/01 was a hard time for America, many families and friends were grieving over their lost loved ones. But while all of this was happening government and important people were creating programs like the TSA.The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) was created to create a safer flight and safer planes so tragedies like the recent terrorist attack America went through does not happen again. Some changes they made for safer flights are the cockpit doors that pilots are controlling the plane is was turned bullet proof and stays locked at all times during the duration of the flight. Also, in the airport you must put baggage through the technology created to detect weapons or bombs that could be in anybody's luggage. Many requirement must be met at airports after 9/11, for example a specific ID is required; the ID name must math the name printed on the ticket of that person. This is probably in effect because they wouldn't want anyone on the plane that is not supposed to be there. Also, whatever thy person has on them like baggage and carry on that a person plans to bring into the plane must be checked and screened. People can fit many things into their bags so this rule is there because they would want any weapons on the plane that would lead to other people getting hurt. Lastly, there is technology that scans someone's body to check for any weapons to anything they would not like to have on the plane, but if

September 11, 2001 began as a beautiful day with a clear blue sky, yet today people recognize it as “the single largest loss of life resulting from a foreign attack”(September 11, 2001 2016). These attacks conducted by the terrorist group, Al Qaeda, killed thousands of people and left their loved ones shocked and devastated. At first, the people thought the plane crashing into one of the twin towers was just an accident; it was not until the second collision that people realized America was truly under attack. Though this tragedy lasted only a day, people continue to feel the effects 15 years later, and most likely will in the future. After this terrible day, the security at many places– such as airports –was strengthened greatly. Many people, however, continue to live with the looming fear that another tragedy like this may recur. The attacks of September 11, 2001 greatly affected my mother, Anita Kaplan, because after that tragic day, she became paranoid in regards to the safety of her and her family, afraid to travel on airplanes, and more aware of both the world news and her surroundings.

9/11 was one of the darkness days in this country’s history and was absolutely a disaster. The death toll of 9/11 did not just stop with that day but followed into the months and years after. The original death toll of 9/11 was 3000 and hundreds of thousands died in the two wars that followed, in the first 18 months 100,000 Iraqis died, even more US troops did as well I’m sure. Of the 3000 that died on 9/11 200 of them were “jumpers” they were 7-8% of those who died that day. That was a very powerful piece that put those people’s choice into perspective. They knew that they were going to die they just had a choice to make. Either burning or suffocating to death or jump out of the window dying quickly and painlessly. When someone has to make a choice like that you know that whatever is going on is a disaster.

During The 9/11 tragedies many people know it was definitely one of the worst things that happened in the US. On any given workday, up to 50,000 employees worked in the World Trade Center twin towers and an additional 40,000 passed through the complex, and more than 400 casualties were police officers and fighters, and over 10,000 people were treated for injuries after the attack (“11 facts about 9/11”). My sister told him she wanted to work there when she was older, so he took her to work with him. I headed to the door, grabbing my shoes along with my mom’s, dad’s, and sister’s.
