Reflective Essay In developing my reflective essay I have used two entries from my journal and also the effect the course becoming a teacher has had on me personally. The theme chosen after closely analyzing the course on a whole is ‘Learning and experience.’ Majority can relate to the slang; “we learn from our experience.” What is learning? Learning can be defined as the process whereby behaviour is changed as a result of experience, (Matalon 2000). Learning occurs when experience cause a relatively permanent change in an individual’s behaviour or knowledge. The change maybe deliberate or unintentional, for better or for worse. Each presentation in my “Becoming a Teacher” class has shown me the type of students and the different backgrounds that will be portrayed. This, however, encourages me to take time out to know my students and their different learning styles and help me to formulate lesson plans to suit my students’ different learning abilities. It is also best to get the student to participate in class activities and share their experiences. I have also learned that perseverance and persistence plays a major role in being an educator. I have made it a priority of mine to know the different roles I should display as a prospective teacher, I should make it my duty to be familiar with the context of philosophy, politics, gender and sexuality, economics and spirituality in order to have a great impact on my students. As a teacher in training I have also learned to display an ability to view situations from multiple perspectives. After being engaged in activities presented in the class, for example, the expo in the gymnasium, I now know how to display professionalism, exercise teacher power, the different contributions each association has contributed to the different institutions as it relates to education. Being one of the presenters at the expo I was able to analyze one of the association that is the Jamaica Teachers Association, they have helped to motivate teachers in the
